Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

Pharmacy fag again. Still no cases anywhere near me, but the store I work at has now become back ordered on: masks, hand sanitizer, nitrile and latex gloves, rubbing alcohol, aloe, Lysol, and baby wipes (wat). People are going ape shit all around here. I feel like if these people (many of whom are medicaid chimps) are so afraid of this virus, why not stock up on actual necessities and quarantine yourselves?! Stay in your hovels and away from me.

Are baby wipes antibacterial? Or do people think they are like the wipes they have at Walmart to clean the filth off of your cart handle? I have to wonder if people are going around wiping everything down with baby wipes bfore they touch it.

I haven't seen anything going on in Philly. Since the local Walgreens is the only non-bodega we've got locally it is not easy to judge their stock. Everything is always sold out anyway. When I get out tomorrow or so I will check to see what pharmacies in a better area have.

I have lupus and some collapsed lung tissue from a severe respiratory infection from a few years back. If I get the virus I am likely fucked.(:_(

I cannot fathom how Emeral city comic convention is continuing given the recent events in Washington. How is it no one has forced them to reschedule or just cancel it? Employers In Seattle, Nordstrom and others, are telling employees to stay home, offices are shutting down.

They still want 100k people in a fucking convention center in the worst state hit by the coronavirus?? Why are people so goddamn stupid in the US?
Because money they probs sank a shit ton of money into it. Why do you think the media is downplaying the chaos?

I went there a few years back. Half of the attendees don't even shower in that stinky convention center. Things could get interesting.

Addition: They were passing out free samples of Old Spice deodorant at the door.

Baby wipes are anti-bacterial, I bought a bunch since all the hand wipes are out.

Tip: you can buy a lot of prepper stuff in the baby aisle, not many people think to check there. You can get gallons of distilled water, baby wipes, and lotion.

Travis AFB update

Get a load of what they're having the airmen in the base hospital wear.

If you look this make and model up, you'll find that it's been discontinued a little over a year ago. That's right. Hospital staff, after a hard lesson the other day regarding potential exposure, are being given leftover, inferior, phased-out, possibly expired(?) trash as PPE. I'm not shocked at all. I was shocked before I found this out, when I thought the military was suddenly 'doing something at least 'slightly right' by providing "new" masks. Where did they even dig these up all of a sudden?

"Product Discontinuation effective December 31, 2018"

Where's the reset button, I'll press it my own damned self.

Related: Hospital staff that interact with patients are to dispose of their masks after each patient. Patients however, can wear the same one indefinitely.
EDIT: The current model masks were all taken away when this discontinued batch was brought in. I'm quite certain that the current, proper masks are for the brass and their families only.

Better NOT be for the brass and their families. Should you see that happen, time for a Congressional. Don't go to the IG. They work for the commander.
Thank you. The purple arrow interests me. Is there anyway to get more info, like is that pointing to Seattle or Vancouver BC? I can't read korean, lol...

TIL that the Spanish flu was a hoax and there was no virus. I had to refrain from asking if it was 5g or Joos responsible.

Can read Korean. In some places the names of the cities/countries merely have been transliterated. See lists of affiliated churches, and in some places the name of the local church, plus the place name.

Today before I heard this I heard Cuomo was "ordering state college students abroad to come home and be quarantined" and I thought "how the fuck can he 'order' students, even SUNY ones, to do anything?"

Apparently this is how. :chicken:
He really can't order anyone outside of NY state to do anything but he's definitely trying.

Newspaper as well. It’d be the first time in a long time journalism has done anything useful.
The NT news in Aus is printing bog-roll

From what I'm seeing panic buying is pretty spotty. Arizona, Colorado, and Nevada seem like business as usual. Hardly seeing that many people with masks or carefully cleaning stuff, other than old folks wiping down their shopping carts, but that's pretty common.

Expired masks should be just fine. I'd only worry if it's been in a very humid environment for a long time and grown something funky. Most of the time the dates seem to be there to help circulate stock on hand so you don't accidentally pull out 40 year old needles.

I love getting away with masks because I work in very, very close proximity with a string of people throughout the day (some chinese too) and between tobacco use, chew, sugar drinks, and cavities people have some stank-ass breath. I would guess masks do the bulk of their good by reminding people to be more hygienic and wash more, as well as block direct coughs and sneezes into their mucosal membranes.

For real, I'd bet the bulk of people are getting it from jamming their fingers in their orifices without washing. I see too many people chewing their nails, picking their nose, or rubbing their eyes in airports.

Funny seeing some kiddies on reddit ask how to get refunds for things that are now cancelled. "I'm an exchange student in italy and we're being recalled. I booked a luxurious hotel stay and concert tickets for spring break while we're here, how do I get my school to reimburse me?" It's always new seeing someone learn that part of growing up is rolling the dice and coming up short sometimes with no one to soften the blow.

I guess now would be a good time to get a bidet since everyone's taking all the TP.
I got 65 rolls, if you're nice I'll give you one.

Thank you! Are there any locations mentioned in Puget Sound region? Or names of churches to look for? I'd like to juxtapose that location with things going down for information's sake.

If anyone has served in the military or knows someone who is in, get some MREs. I've yet to be a part of a unit that actually keeps a count on these things and they can be quite handy in a pinch. Each one has enough calories to cover 1-3 days (based on your needs) including electrolytes, toilet paper, and sometimes matches. I've got 4 cases that a few supply buddies just handed to me. So if you can, get on it before units DO start tracking them.

Even if we go by the IFRs that vary from about 0.23% to 1%, that’s still as many as 10k people who died in Wuhan, assuming at least 1 million infected. However, I’ve seen some really suspicious shit.

A Chinese film director and his whole family died of the coronavirus. Four people in the same household. If we assume a mortality rate as high as 5%, this is like landing on the same side of a D20 four times in a row. That’s a 1 in 160,000 chance.

1 / 20 / 20 / 20 / 20 = 0.000625.

1 / 0.000625 = 160,000.

If the mortality rate is so low, how the fuck is it wiping people out like that?

Did you read the article son? It says it right there:

Chang Kai, 55, died on 14 February. His parents died over the previous two weeks, after the family spent days together in self-quarantine, the Chinese magazine Caixin reported. Chang’s sister died hours after he did, and his wife is in a serious condition.

China literally borded them up like plague carries in the same home and let them die. During the 1800s you crowded all the kids to get chicken pox if one had it they all get it so it doesn't wipe everyone out AGAIN. China is doing that and enforcing at gun point if it's in the house, everyone stays there or everyone dies by bullets or lives after getting infected and recovers. China is enforcing mandatory isolation and they don't give a damn if a whole family dies if it saves 100 other families.

You will have ghost towns in Wuhan, it'll look like Chernobyl and the chinese will burn the whole building down just to keep the world from finding out.

also I'll post this URL here as it's vanished from somewhere back on page with double digits:

Actual tracking of world's natural disasters, yes "Epidemic" is on there and it's mind boggling to see how many earthquakes we have on this rock.

baby wipes (wat)
This is good news. People should already be using moist wipes in the first place, as TP simply does not clean your ass, but merely wipes off the visible excess. If you got shit on your hands, would you consider them clean after just wiping them off with a napkin? If you unironically say "yes", kindly remove yourself from society and don't touch anything on your way out. Seeing as how apparently Corona-chan is into scatplay, everyone should be happy to know this.

Because money they probs sank a shit ton of money into it. Why do you think the media is downplaying the chaos?
What’s more important, profits or living? They’re at least giving refunds out apparently so maybe if they lose enough money it will shut down but I have a strong feeling by the end of the week the governor will close it.

It’s just sick that it has to come to that and not commonsense.

Anyone else suspect that if the shit really hits the fan the medical powers that be are going to triage patients? And by triage I mean: letting the really old and infirm patients die without bothering with the ICU?

I'm really curious how many over-70s who have entered the ICU have survived. It's not looking like many oldsters who get a case that severe are surviving.

Much of the artist alley and many comics editors have been backing out in the last 48 hours.

Well when you have experience in the more shady side of the corporate world. The thing is profits override decencey or in some instances legality. It's sick but it's how they roll.
I don't agree with it though.

Baby wipes are the toilet paper alternative, although there's "supposedly" flush-safe wipes that aren't labeled as baby wipes. (Cottonelle is said to be plumber-tested, but I dunno how true it is. But they're nicer on your asshole, anyway, and cleans better.)

In a couple weeks, tops, shit's gonna go down (thanks, California, Italy). Arizona's still testing for more cases after the second confirmation.
