Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

Example I've seen lately: People wondering how WA residents were going to go the polls in Nov. Duh, if you fucking really gave a shit you'd know we mail our ballots and have been for a decade now.
That said I do worry about the outdated primary caucus system. It seems downright dangerous these days. There is no reason to rely on the votes of the few people who belong to a particular party and could get time off work to assemble somewhere to determine the candidates. Open primaries would be best. It works elsewhere, why not here?

The WA Democrats ditched the caucus. The primary is now how they assign delegates. And the Republicans already used the primary, so WA now uses a fully open vote-by-mail primary.

More cases in spain, over 260. Important part is, 13 from a residence in madrid, 9 of them patients, 1 a worker. Dunno the others they didn't specify I'm guessing family members. 1 of the residents died tuesday and got diagnosed post mortem (that's why they checked the rest) there's 70 patients total in the residence, all of them over 80, and I already mentioned the air of madrid is the worst of spain. They quarantined the fuck out of everything and everyone but most agree this is the shit hit the fan moment.

Also on a funnier note, labor minystry just posted a prevention protocol that was frankly ridiculous, and healthcare ministry actually officially called them out for being morons (politely) and they retracted it. Fucking everyone's been laughing their asses off about that shit. It literally told people to leave the building if they suspected an outbreak it was exceptional as fuck I'll see if I can find a copy cause hot daym.

I'm so digging the EU responses to this outbreak. From UK "OI! AHLLS WELL!" to Italy's "SHUT EVERYTHING DOWN!" to y'all in Spain about to mock everyone into the sun for being Exceptional. I get better news info on here than on MSM.

And so it begins

Anybody wanna take a guess on how long until they start locking down major cities? Given their lack of testing and half assed containment measures here in NY I'm waiting for the hammer to drop as soon as people start getting tested en masse (there is no fucking way in hell we have less cases than Seattle). Frankly I think half the reason the major western governments are dragging their feet on the response is so that they can first have the National Guard or their national equivalent already deployed before they enact draconian lockdown measures so people don't have a chance to chimp out.

Just don't see any American city being locked down. Not necessary. Our medical system is better than China's.

On a side note, just did a run to Costco and Walmart. Hit Costco just after opening. No wipes offered this time for shopping cart handles. Saw a display of gloves, in two different sizes, up front. Looked pretty normal. Some people were buying water/asswipe/paper towels, but not in "panic" quantities. Didn't look all around, was busy. Saw Spanish ham for sale, including a carving knife and a stand, for $100.

In the "bitch and complain" department, Costco didn't have one particular very good chocolate milk available the past three weeks. No cherry pies from the bakery yet, and no large bags of Cheetos.

At Walmart, looked normal.

Alright kiwis powerlevel or not I might as well say that I've been notified that I may have been in contact with someone who tested positive for the coronavirus in the doctor's office and have been told to self isolate for 2 weeks. I'm immune comprised and take immunosuppressant drugs. I was trying so hard to stay healthy during this and I've potentially been got at the doctors office for a routine appointment. This feels like some sick joke.

I'm gonna isolate and if I develop symptoms I'll keep you posted. I mean I might as well, it's not like I'm going outside for a while.
This is what has me most terrified. I had to go in for a routine blood draw today and I picked my neighborhood clinic since no one ever goes there but I was still paranoid. Next week I have to go with my wife to a doctor appt. at the big hospital in our state. We’ve already called them and asked for additional care in avoiding crowded areas like the lab or the pharmacy. They’ll just have shit delivered to her office appointment. We will wear masks and glasses but nothing else we can do I guess unless we skip the appt.

Not intended to scare you, but it was in the small local doctor's office near me where I was potentially exposed. I don't know how whoever had it was even allowed in the waiting room. Again with the people going on trips to Italy being tards and ignoring the advice put in place.

Bold of you to assume anyone would go to any of those cities on their own volition.
Oh come on. Cleveland has the best motto

“At least we’re not Detroit”

Though given the illness, Detroit in this case might be better. Can’t get the Wuflu from your neighbors when nature is retaking all of your neighbor’s houses!

Well Cuomo is now Il Duce di Nuovo York so it's possible he'd call out the National Guard. We went from 1 to 3 and now 22. Like you say there's no way we have fewer cases than Seattle given Flushing, Sunset Park and Lower Manhattan. It's certain folks went back to China for Lunar New Year and came back. I was in Sunset Park in January (right as this thread started) and nearly everyone had the sniffles/cough. Curtailed public contact as much as possible as this thread went on. I either got it or had a mild cold last month, I'm seriously thinking of getting tested. Do I succumb to panic or wait and see? It's difficult when the authorities are deliberately obtuse about this.
How many American people here go to the doctor for every sniffle, vs go only when things don’t clear up? God knows I don’t. The last time I did go was when a cough didn’t clear up for two months, ended up wasting money on an xray to confirm I didn’t have pneumonia, and was told it was bronchitis and would eventually go away on its own. And in another two months it did.

I always laugh at the ads for the anti-virals that you have to take within 48 hrs of symptoms for it to be effective. Who the hell can tell the difference between a cold and the flu in the first 48 hours? A family member has had each person at their work take a day or two off this week due to some kind of crud going through. They’re home today. Maybe it was corona. Maybe it wasn’t. Since each has recovered uneventfully, none of them went to a doctor, they just spent the worst of it at home staying hydrated and eating soup.

Pretty sure from the way it’s popping up here and there it’s fully unleashed in the population. Unless someone is in a bad way it’s unlikely the sick will bother with a doctor visit.
If you have the flu you know right away. I'm always getting colds but when a got the flu a few years back I could barely move. I thought I had pneumonia again. I dragged myself to the urgent care and got some tamiflu, cleared up in 2 days. I was floored.

They won't say which 'community' it is for fear of race riots. That's delightful.

Also watch Pittsburg, Cleveland and Anchorage. They will be the sources of the biggest outbreaks over the next few weeks.

Pittsburg why? Cleveland is a flyover city and totally irrelevant. They aren't densely packed like CA states are, and their commerce is not tied to travel like the coastal cities.

Anchorage would be a candidate if people were fleeing Washington/Oregon on their boats to go live there.

Maybe in the big cities.
Not if you go by the more, umm, hysterical posters here - everyone will be dead before then.

Cleveland is a tech hub. Companies like Keithley Instruments are kind of important and a lot of travel is tied to them.

While true downtown, Detroit also has a much more international airport than Cleveland sooooo....

They've emptied those 'hospitals' in China because everyone recovered.

Where is Chen Qishi? Last we knew he was stuck in a quaranine hospital, but they are supposedly empty now and everyone is going back to work and shitting rainbows.

Person 1 in conversation makes the valid point that only the most severe cases get reported to doctors and in the news.
Person 1 accurately states that many people will have a mild case that goes unreported and even doesn't stop them from going to work.

News and spergs (as if they were different) : "Look at this moron telling people it isn't that bad and they SHOULD (not the actual statement "will") go to work!"

Stupid or liars pick one it doesn't really matter.

This by the way is why I posted the Carl Sagan quote here-
Let's just spread it around. It may kill my co worker but at least they died doing something to bolster the stock market.

Thanks. Last time I dealt with a primary here was 2008 and I was fucking livid that Because there were so many of my coworkers going that I couldn't leave work to vote ( and would have to join aparty to do so) I'm relieved that they changed it

"Where is Chen" ... that question sent fucking shivers down my spine. He's literally been "dissapeared" hasn't he? Fucking chinks, man.
