And the Brits won the Battle of Britain, Never quit, never gave up. Gave it everything they had. And in the end, as part of the Allies, the Union Jack flew over Germany.
You’re right, but in the end, Corona-Chan is the great equalizer. Nobody is completely safe from Corona-Chan.

Here’s an article from a British newspaper from the other day about the origins of that slogan. Pretty interesting and wonder if we’ll see it used in that way again, ie a pragmatic writing off of a certain % of the population so the economy doesn’t tank.

off to my 1200 person workplace where people still don’t wash their damn hands properly.

A lot of states have declared a State of Emergency at this point. The virus is spreading so damn fast, and it's been confirmed that a lot of the cases have been travel-related. And the death toll in the U.S. is about 7%. Not good.

Not to sound paranoid or anything, but does anyone think this has the possibility to escalate into something that looks like Martial Law?

I wouldn't be against a temporary overseas travel ban at this point, at the very least. Should have happened about a month ago, honestly.

No, martial law won't be needed. Far more people die each year of the "regular" flu. The various states of emergency give the governments room to maneuver, if you will.

Latest count in the USA - 233 cases, in a population of about 340 million. 7% of that's about 15 deaths, many in the same nursing home, again out of about 340 million people. Relax. Put things in perspective. Many more Americans are killed in vehicle accidents every day, for example.

You’re right, but in the end, Corona-Chan is the great equalizer. Nobody is completely safe from Corona-Chan.

No, but 233 cases out of 340 million people indicate the chance of getting WuFlu is rather small.

Local Seattle news reported today that a bunch of concessions workers at Century Link Field (where the Seahawks and Sounders play) tested positive for corona. They think a bunch of people that attended the Seattle v. Dallas XFL game got exposed. I was at that game, lol. Hazzah...
About 29,000 not including staff.

Some quotes from an article that reported on the situation:

A part-time employee at Seattle's CenturyLink Field who worked during the Seattle Dragons' home game against the Dallas Renegades on Feb. 22 has tested positive for the coronavirus, King County (Wash.) officials said Thursday.

The Seattle Times reported, citing a source knowledgeable about the matter, that the infected employee worked as a concessions vendor

King County health officials indicated that the risk of COVID-19 infection is low for the 22,060 fans who attended the XFL game.

County officials advise that no extra precautions are required for those who attended the Feb. 22 game or who will attend upcoming events

It's literally a collection of old people who were already waiting to die.

People with prexisting conditions. I have loved ones with prexisting conditions/special conditions who are not in a nursing home, and I have absolutely zero doubt that the virus would fuck them up if they caught it. I have a loved one with COPD, I have pregnant friends ...

And I'm worried for them. For a person like myself, who doesn't have prexisting conditions and lives a pretty healthy lifestyle for your average American? I'm not concerned. I'm worried for others. I'm worried for kids, too. Think about the babies that are being born in the same hospitals as a lot of these patients. That's definitely a cause for concern and worry.

And people went into that nursing home to visit their loved ones while the virus was present. It took them way too long to put that home in quarantine. Healthy people can be carrying around that virus and passing it along to thousands of people without really knowing it.

It's the severe lack of containment that is alarming with this.

Not trying to say "It's nothing serious", but besides good hygiene and avoiding big crowds, there's literally nothing you can do about this virus.

Turning into paranoid shit-ins will only make things worse. If you're concerned about being a carrier and potentially infecting vulnerable people, don't see them for a while. That's about the limit of what can be done right now.

In other news, there are unconfirmed reports that a suspiciously high amount of people on the Chinese Governments bad side are suddenly being given half-assed mandatory exams, being found "Showing symptoms" and being tossed into quarantine with the infected.

Those wacky commies found a way to get plenty of "volunteers" for their cure research...

And the death toll in the U.S. is about 7%. Not good.

It got into a Nursing Home. Otherwise known as Death's Waiting Room. The same thing happened during Swine Flu and H1N1. And dear lord enough with the Death Rates already. We don't know the death rate because we don't know the spread of the infected, largely relatively minor seasonal illness sufferers. But what we do know is it’s several orders of magnitude lower than what everybody is freaking out over. We don’t know the total number of infected. We do know a pretty accurate number of the dead in transparent and fully observable nations.

There's been a fuckton of slacktivists recently who have basically gone on record on Social Media saying that if they get the virus, they intend to go to Trump Rallies to infect people there. While I'm like 90% certain many of the people talking about doing this are simply shitposting, the fact that there will, almost without exception, be lefties willing to go full bugchaser (let's be clear, we've seen less stupid things this last year) is one of those things that makes me want to crack open a bottle of Amaretto and call it a day.

Those selfsame slacktivists couldn't be bothered to get out of bed before 10pm in order to go vote for their beloved Bernie. If they can't do it by smartphone, they ain't doing it.

So, Russian Business Channel made a handy sum-up with graphics of the Corona-chan statistics on 6th of March:

Rearranged a bit and briefly translated for Kiwis by yours truly:

  • China National Health Commission cites 80552 infected, out of 97 945 in the world, according to SCMP.
  • WHO says 14768 are infected outside of China, 2098 new cases on the 5th of March. 85 other countries are affected, 267 infected confirmed dead.
  • South China Morning Post cites 3383 people died of complications of coronavirus infection, where 3042 out of them were in Mainland China
  • China National Health Commission says about 53000 people around the world recovered from the infection

In Russia:
  • Moscow is on high alert regime; everyone coming from countries with novel cases is to report to authorities
[*]In Vladivostok, 7 passengers from the Diamond Princess are discharged, 2 still await the results of tests, which have to be done in Novosibirsk (Note: Novosibirsk has the biggest virus and bacterial laboratory in Russia)
[*]Ministry of Defense dispatched groups of virologists for any emergencies on military bases, which are also on high alert with daily checkups, especially for those returning from business trips and vacations.
[*] More than 700 students of the Mechnikov's Medical University in Saint Petersburg are quarantined due to student returned from Italy with a case of a corona virus infection. This is the 1st case in St. Petersburg.

Other countries:
  • 4 Russians are on the Grand Princess quarantined near California shores. Tests have been air-dropped to the ship. Reuters cites 35 people with respiratory symptoms on the ship
[*]Palestine declared an emergency, closing preschools, schools and cancelling tourists' bookings, according to premier minister Mohammed Shtayyeh.
[*]UK registered the first death from corona virus, the victim was an elderly woman.
[*]Indonesia plans to hold infected on an uninhabited island of Galang. The commander-in-chief Hadi Tjahdjanto says they are planning to use old buildings previously used to accomodate Vietnamese refugees.

For the flu faggots, 12,000 die of the flu in a year. its only March and this shit kills exponentially and its already at 12. If the hot Iranian desert couldnt stop this, what makes you think the weather in the US will affect it, also we have st. Patrick's day, easter, and may 5th all coming up. And this has a 30 day incubation period, meaning if you were coughed on while drinking your green beer, and you cough during church at easter and the person you coughed on coughs while drinking his tequila in a crowded bar, some random fucker gets infected and only realizes it during the 2nd to last graduation party he attended and ends up dying before the fireworks happen.

If our greedy corporate overlords dont want to risk it why the fuck does everyone think they should?

If anyone wants a bit of a laugh, go to ebay.com.au and search for toilet paper. Some are obviously a joke, but there are others that appear to be deadly serious. An archive of the first page of results at the time of this post: http://archive.li/ebmIi.

To put things into perspective, TP usually costs well under 1 dollarydoo per roll. I just got home after going to my local supermarket; The TP aisle is so well-stocked that there are packs of TP stacked on the floor two deep. I bought a 24 pack for 12 dollarydoos.

"TP shortage in Australia", my arse.

I skipped parts of this thread just to tell you that a sheltered workshop run by the Caritas (a welfare organisation run by the Catholic Church) is now sewing protective masks for hospitals.

Yep, we're at that point. Thanks to our government being so perfectly prepared, pharmacies now produce disinfectant and sheltered workshops sew protective masks. Pretty sure that was totally part of the plan from the beginning. We're fine.

And still laughing at people wasting money on toilet paper and shit, instead of water and food. If worse comes to worst, you'll stop worrying how to wipe your precious butt or your hands, you'll worry about food. Most of these people were never poor enough to actually hunger. You go without food for two days and we'll see how you feel about stupid TP. You can't make a steak out of toilet paper nor will you learn how to hunt in one day. Very human, modern luxuries before basic needs.

Disclaimer: Just to clarify, I'm not making fun of sheltered workshops. I'm angry that our government (like many other governments) are totally unprepared and didn't think it necessary to maybe, just maybe, make sure there is enough protective gear for people who would be fighting this thing at the front. When they decided against travel bans and harsher controls they should have been aware that this would happen.

Here is what kinda shit you get hooked up to while battling this disease note the headline "Showing signs of recovery". What the fuck did it look like before recovery?

On a lighter note 63% of people thought it was funny.

Suddenly, for some inexplicable reason (certainly not because of that picture) I am so very glad for Germany's strict privacy and data protection laws.

Fuck human dignity, right?

Don't even attempt to try and pull that, German. Everyone knows what you people do when you have a properly organized government with a chain of command based on the Leader Principle.
