There were many mistakes in the YYH dub. Such as calling demon world spirit worked until they had no choice because Sensui opened a portal to the damn thing. Also calling all energy spirit energy until they had no choice but to differentiate it because the main character became a half demon. And one change created a plot hole that didn't need to be there if they had followed the sub. Also changing names. Dumb crap like that.

But other than that, YYH feels very natural and I think along with Fullmetal, it's the best dub Funimation has ever done.

That wasn’t a fuck up my guy. There is the Demon World, home is the demons which is parallel to Earth. Spirit World is separate. The Yu Yu Hakusho movie even talks about this, as the Demon World has their own version of Spirit World. The Demon World and Spirit World being the same thing makes no sense as it’s no big deal that the characters can get to the Spirit Realm to and fro but a HUGE DEAL to get to and fro the Demon World. That’s literally a goddamn plot point.

The Demon World has 3 Kings. The Spirit World has its own King, King Enma.

They were not the same thing.

And Spirit energy is different from Demon energy to differentiate the powers that spiritual gifted HUMAN characters have compared to the demon characters. A human cannot have demon energy.

They are and have always been separate worlds. They are separate energies as when Yusuke uses Spirit the energy is blue, when he uses demon energy it is red.

The dub didn’t invent something that was ALWAYS there.

Changing translation is a tight rope act of a process, take an example of things changed in yu yu hakusho for example, usually anything changed was changed to something comparable light in the west,(Helps that it didn't really have much in the way of politics in it in the first place) or organically you try to dub it to be more natural in a specific language. That's what I think is the issue right now, people have forgotten that the whole point of dubbing is to make it sound more NATURAL to that language you are dubbing it to.

I also want to give a shout out to the late Kristen Bishop as she was the greatest actor in the entire Canadian dub of Sailor Moon. Despite the gender swap of Zoycite she managed to sell it very well that I honestly can't watch the original subbed or the new dub episodes with that character in it. Her version of Esmeraude...find me someone else who can perfectly capture the snobbish annoyance with that legendary laugh (and yes I love Rena Strober) like she can. Kaorinite was perfect too although compared to Noriko Umera's performance I'm curious to see what an older 50 something woman could do with that character. I feel like the dub voice should be a bit....deeper?

IDK exactly why, but I'm a Josh Seth fanboy. I believe he would have been close to Vic's level if not for his sabbatical. He quit voice acting in the early-to-mid-2000s to do magic shows and shit, and returned a few years ago to voice Ty for Tri. However, the other role that sticks out to me his his Fox Kids narration. Who else remembers that shit? That shit is absolute gold. He was also Knives in Trigun, Cyborg 009, and one of the main characters of Akira.

And one change created a plot hole that didn't need to be there if they had followed the sub.

POINT of this post is that I'm hearing A-Kon may somewhat be on the fence of inviting Vic this year. (I know it sounds bad but hear me out.)
For obvious reasons ranging from Reeeing from a few volunteers & potential investors feeling skiddish and fact of the matter is a lot of these people in the con circuit aren't really following up with what's been going on, & if they have it's through word of mouth.
So my point is for those of you willing to help signal boost a FRIENDLY reaching out to A-Kon. Not just requesting Vic but giving examples as to why he should be there as someone who's helped build this industry. (lawsuit aside)

Would really appreciate the help. I've tried reaching out privately and it's always my first course of action but you know sometimes that doesn't work. Ultimately if they decide against bringing him it's fine I just thought it'd be nice to kind of show that just because I'm posting this on the farms it doesn't mean "BRING VIC OR GET DOXXED" you know? Their Twitter is @weareakon I believe so maybe give them a shout there or shoot them an email.
