Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

Not sure how a recession caused by millions of dead after encouraging Corona Chan to run wild like Hulkamania is better than a recession caused by quarantines and shutdowns but I guess that's why I'm not an economist.
Because childless Boomers in the US hold $4.3 Trillion in assets.

Covid 19 could be setting off the Great Wealth Transition about a decade early. If so and a bunch of people die - great - the US are buyers.

If the economy crashes and we still have all these old people around - shit - they still have all that money, we still need to take care of them, and we will have lost 25% of the US GDP to a plague from China.

Oh man, its the opposite of what they should actually be doing! Well... the self-quarantine part isn't a bad idea. But the come home part? Fuck that. Stay put.
Frankly the whole world needs to coordinate at this point to take a month long staycation. Take a week to prepare and have all nonessential people hunker down. Then when we come out all good and rested we can lead an international coalition to capture the heads of the Chinese politburo so we can all take turns kicking them in the gooch for unleashing this fucking plague upon our world.

Word is, Iran should have some sort of multiplier to those numbers. I mean, these guys have lawmakers and government officials croaking. I could be wrong.
Edit: Let's face it, they're not renowned for their transparency either.
Opposition sources claim 2k dead, and if they're digging pits and dumping corpses in them, that sounds plausible.

Well, it's official guys. We're in lockdown until April. It's gonna be a long ass month and I'm already bored out of my mind.

Governors in the North are still trying to understand how to prevent people from moving around because the decree isn't clear and doesn't give any specifics. For example it's not clear whether the police, carabinieri etc. will have to put in place roadblocks and checkpoints. People in the red zones aren't allowed to move from province to province except few cases, but they are apparently for now allowed to go out. Our PM Conte said that "It's time to take self-accountability" and urged people to avoid social interactions. Lol, good luck with that. These last 2-3 days the weather was perfect, sunny with a light breeze. You think people stayed indoors? Of course not. Let's see if we'll manage to stay indoors.

The biggest hypocrisy however is the fact that sporting events, such as football's Serie A, volleyball etc. for now can still play matches but they can only do so behind closed doors. So much for keeping a one metre security distance between people, eh? For some reason it pisses me off to no end.
That sucks.

I've never dealt with someone under an active quarantine before. Do post updates and help the rest of us understand what's happening. Some of the questions that will come up over time include:

- Are you allowed out of your home?
- How do you get food?
- Are you allowed to keep your pets?
- Is there a curfew in place?
- Are the police actively patrolling the streets looking for the infected?
- Are they checking door to door?

My "auntie" was in Odessa during the Cholera outbreak in 1970. Soviet troops with machine guns completely cut off the entire city. Everybody had to submit for daily testing. Shit was so locked down you couldn't squeeze off a fart. After the quarantine ended she remembers walking to the plane on her way back to Moscow and walking parallel to a literal human wall of Soviet troops with AKs at the ready.

As I understand it this shit is really hard on the relatives because they can't observe traditional burial rituals. IIRC they wash the body before burial.

9:55 a.m. 1,000 cruise ship passengers headed to Travis Air Force base: About 1,000 California residents on board the Grand Princess will be taken to Travis Air Force Base in Fairfield for testing after they disembark from the cruise ship, according to an official with the Governor’s Office of Emergency Services.

I'm mostly resigned to all of this. I've got nothing. No, the airmen were not informed, including hospital staff.

My question is : As the Flu and Pneumonia are co-mingled in the stats for deaths in the US will we ever even know how many deaths are actually from COVID-19?
We will never have an exact count, at some point mass serological testing or a POC (pint of care) test will arrive and we can get better numbers. Otherwise it’ll be subtract the projected flu numbers from the death toll from pneumonia etc
So I’m recovering from what I assume was a brief flu and I’m excited that my now recovered self has a period of enhanced resilience against all diseases. That’s how that works right?

....right?
You have enhanced immunity to the specific strain of what you had and very similar strains.

There are cases now where I am. As in, in the same building complex. Family members place of work closed and people quarantined. From here I reckon three weeks to serious Widespread outbreak, five or six to the point where the Nhs can’t treat everyone. Watch for that point getting almost reached and when it does that is the point to stay home. Keep your elders and vulnerable (pregnant, chronically ill, diabetic etc) home, stock them up now. The goal is not so much to avoid infection completely, it’s to avoid infection during the peak weeks when the health service is going to be unable to provide care to everyone.
Realistically we are all getting exposed - you will maximise your chances by being ill when there’s health service capacity.

Wonder where these people will stay. Doubt they'll be tested, get results back, and be able to leave if negative that quickly.

In case anyone is wondering about Italy, I found (late?) a visualization and a breakdown by region and severity:

I don't really know Italian, but guess the PDF goes as follows: the four yellow columns are active cases: recovered from symptoms, on intensive therapy, quarantined at home, and total. The next two columns are resolved cases: recovered and released for green, dead for red. Then you have the total, and I believe "tamponi" indicates the number of people tested. The differences in positive-to-tested ratios in the first three regions is somewhat striking.

Hope they wear correct PPE when those idiots disembark.

Being sick is no excuse not to work at maximum efficiency (if you're a pleb). It's just a flu, bro.

During the first days of the outbreak anyone and his mother was tested in Lombardy and Veneto,They were wasting alot of resources trying to catch "patient zero" believing it came from China (seems instead that it entered from Germany......).
After that they starts to use a bit more of methos on how and who testing people

How does this pagerank stuff happen? To my knowledge, it's based on clicks... or used to be.
So it's one of the 2:
1. Chinese spambots clicking on articles to flood the ranking and hide stuff that they don't want people to see but can't also just take off the internet
2. Google cucked to the red cock and re-ranked shit.

Why not both? Humans do indeed do some manual sorting of the Google results to help the algorithm along, especially for politically charged topics he individual sorter finds important, from what I have been told. Apparently there's a handbook of sorting relevancy criteria, but it can be gamed.

Coronavirus: Italy reports 133 deaths in one day.
I wouldn't be surprised if Italy ended up just behind China in death count by this point.

Sure Iran has both beat by having the virus kill off several offcials, but they'll never claim the "daily kill count outside China" unless they force everyone to lick the monuments and refuse medical treatment.
