Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

You guys DO know that there's ready made bread, biscuit, pancake and muffin mixes? With some of them, all you have to do is add water. Yes, they're more expensive than scratch and yes, scratch tastes better when a talented cook is making it. But some of y'all are thinking you're gonna buy a gunnysack of flour, cane sugar, and brewer's yeast, and be some kind of James Townsend, Frontier Gourmet. When in reality, you're probably just going to make a mess in your kitchen and waste precious resources cleaning it up. There's nothing wrong with using a commercial mix (especially as a base to add your own spices and ingredients to.) A crisis is not a good time to discover whether you're a decent cook or not, especially if you've never really cooked from scratch before.
Oh yea You can technically keep a yeast starter for a long time. I've heard one bakery using the same yeast culture from a starter that originated over 100 years ago.

This one here is done by a prepper an exceptional individual who I don't really think is one as he is trying to make money by selling merch.

But his style of doing his starter yeast is similar to my own so it goes up in here.

When I get into the mood I do make home made bread out of different ingredients so I do a starter and a week or so later I start making bread. A lot of bread for a week or so. Break making by hand can be time consuming but it is a useful skill to have. Bread making with a bread machine is easy.
Okay, PSA if we're going to start doing survival eating tips. Mix grains and pulses. Protein from vegetable sources falls into two broad categories. Eating only grains or eating only pulses gives you half the profile you need. That's why you see a lot of blends of this in traditional cooking - beans on toast, lentils with rice, etc. So if someone is doing the stock up on rice thing, do your body a favour and stock up on rice and lentils. If you're making bread, get some beans in as well.
A giant sack of rice, some soy sauce, salt and pepper, and several dozen eggs can be had for dirt cheap and you can make delicious fried rice for a long time. Frozen veggies for added flavor and vitamins can be added too.

It's even appropriate for the wuflu theme! :)
Nigga, I’ve been making my own sourdough since I was a kid.
There is an entire prepper sperg thread for this shit. Could you please post your bread recipes and whatever the fuck you do with rice and beans there?: https://kiwifarms.net/threads/general-prepper-sperging-thread.66663/

Please?

Thank you.

And I'm asking this because now that Corona-chan's Kill Your Grandparents World Tour is underway, this thread is going to move a lot faster, and staying caught up with actual news about the pandemic is going to be hard enough. Prepping is old meme at this point--if anybody is finally getting around to doing it now and wants to ask questions, please, for the love of god, send them to the prepper thread. That's why it exists.

On that note, I've had a dry cough and scratchy throat for the last week, assumed they were due to allergies, and finally figured out that no, no they're not when I woke up with a fever and headache yesterday morning. The fever keeps coming and going, and it's never high enough to be alarming--it hasn't broken 100F yet. The headache waxes and wanes too, but not in sync with the fever. I don't actually feel bad or lethargic though, and I'm only a bit short of breath when I actually exert myself. I've spent the last few days rushing to get work-related stuff done before things really go south, and yesterday was no different.

I live in a city with a bunch of known coronavirus cases in the metro area (but good fucking luck getting tested). I went out to see bands perform five times in the two weeks before the cough started, and each time it was a packed house. The last show I went to was last Wednesday, right as the cough was first developing. I knew it wasn't the brightest idea, but went anyway, figuring it would be my last hurrah before shit got real.

So now I'm actually in my Plague Bunker, doing the self-quarantine thing just in case. I have been home since last Thursday, because when I'm not going out to hear music or volunteering I'm a hikikomori-tier introverted shut-in (and both of my volunteer gigs/weekly socialization sessions have been canceled until further notice due to coronavirus concerns). But as of yesterday I made it official, and I'm staying home for at least the next two weeks.

I was already totally prepped, and the only things I need are more hot glue sticks and some Earl Grey tea, which Amazon will bring tomorrow. So there you have it.

One interesting aspect of this will be the population explosion in and around January through April 2021.

Studies have shown in cities where power cuts have happened that 9 months after, there is a spike in child birth due to their being not much else to do when you are stuck at home. You eat, you watch TV and...you fuck.

It will be interesting next year when we get an explosion worldwide of child births around the same time from the quarantines being put in place; and we may get an unusual new strain of demand on the healthcare system in 2021 - child births clustered around a defined 2-3 month period.

The wise people will stock up on hardware, it is time to get down and do some home renovations. Paint the rooms, fix the crap you've left undone for eons. As a side note, before TP, think about real things like the fact that home use Of HVAC is going to go through the roof, get your AC checked and make sure it's in good condition because your AC rep is going to be run off his feet and may not be able to get to you for weeks - and he might get the virus and be unable to visit at all. Buy light bulbs, they're going to be on twice as much as before. Be practical.

Buy condoms.

I was talking to my husband about that just this morning. As horrible as it sounds, long term the quarantine may be good for Italy since they have population issues, IIRC.

You know what? It is a fucking horrible thing to say. I hear it a lot. I happen to like my parents and I know others love their uncles, aunts and parents and grandparents just fine. they worked hard to raise their kids and did a fine job and fucking deserve a good life. I'm sorry to hear others think of their relatives as pieces of shit that need care and are better off fucking dead. It says a lot about the cunts who say shit like this. Population control would be better if it killed of cunts and ungrateful little cunts who think of other people as a waste to society and see them as merely problems to be buried.

I hope their kids wish upon them their deaths - and if they do, it shows what cunts of parents they were at raising little monsters.

Many of these fine people that raised us are about to die. Its not a drill or a movie. Millions on them.

So go ahead and say it - its says a lot about you.

E3 has been cancelled:

Surprised this was the reason why E3 got cancelled and not the fact that E3 was already on its deathbed.

What are you mad at me for? I didn't say that I wanted people to die. I said that while my husband and I were talking, the idea that in a completely emotionless way of looking at it, people getting bored and procreating might be a boon to their population problems long term. I didn't suggest that it would be great if anyone died.

Most of the comments in this video are saying that the coronavirus is good for the environment because China finally has blue skies. Not sure if this means environmentalists like mass genocide
If you got a lot of environmentalists drunk enough, they'd admit that they consider the mass of humanity (especially in certain parts of the world) to be like fleas on a dog, and that a massive die-off would be ideal. Shit, I've met some who pretty much come out and say it while stone cold sober.

There are environmentalists who would like to save the natural environment, not only for its own sake, but also for the sake of humanity, and its future. But there are a lot of them who are deeply misanthropic (and often deeply racist, as well), who would gladly pay for their dream of an ecotopia with billions of dead, if need be. They're the kinds of people who will look back at this pandemic and its death toll and think, "Well, it was a good start; too bad it burned itself out before it could finish the job."

Should we be worried that one of them is going to engineer the big one someday? This whole event has shown governments would react way too slow to stop anything.

E3 has been cancelled:

This is their big chance! With this and GDC they can make up a theory about the virus being a Gamergate plot!

In the downtown area of my city. Shits a ghost town and we dont even have confirmed cases yet. I am honestly more worried about the economic ramifications then the disease itself. A huge chunk of the work force is hourly or even worse, tipped resteraunt workers. This is going to be an absolute fiasco come rent day.
This is what happens when the entire economy is ran on 'paycheck to paycheck

If having people do the right thing and stay the fuck home is such a big problem then hopefully we'll be able to get some shit figured about that stuff(doubtful).

I'm just hoping that this won't fuck up a trip I'm having next month though.

I'd say the likelyhood, that at least some environmentalists are spreading the kung flu intentionally approaches 1. So not rounding them all up to internment camps is pure madness. We could call these facilities Greta camps.

We talking a white planet or a we dinnidonuthin planet? If the first I’m an environmentalist now.

While you're coofing I'm cooming:

Panic buying - Corona virus causes burst of porn sales

As reported by "erotik.com", sales figures for erotic content have increased dramatically for some time.
On March 8th, sales have been even higher than the usual top selling day: Black Friday.
"This applies not only to video on demand but also DVDs. It seems that the users are also securing media that works without internet and is usable in quarantines for times of crisis.", says a spokesperson.

Orders from Nordrhein-Westfalen (the most affected German state) and Italy have almost tripled.
