Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

The US-Europe travel ban seems to be EU Schengen Area countries only. So, UK travel not affected. Nor Ireland. I already see whining and carping that it won't stop Yanks picking it up in Europe and returning home to US with it. No. But it will LIMIT the numbers of carriers coming in. What is it with people that they cannot accept that a measure may not be perfect, but may actually be effective in slowing down rates of infection? Every new disease vector is a problem, so cutting down on them is eminently sensible.

Meanwhile via BBC:

"Thailand has announced 11 new Covid-19 cases - all from the same group of friends, bringing the total to 70.

Sukhum Kanchanapimai, Thailand’s permanent secretary to the Public Health Ministry, said the cluster stemmed from a Thai person who met a friend from Hong Kong who later became ill with fever, shivering, headache and coughing.

He insisted the newly confirmed cases occurred in a limited circle and that the patients were not considered “super spreaders".

“The behaviours that led to the spreading in this group were they hung out together closely, drank alcohol from the same glasses, smoked from the same cigarettes, spent time together for a long time in limited space and did not take enough rest," Mr Sukhum said.

“In this group of 15 friends, those who did not become infected were because they neither drank, nor smoked from the same cigarettes with their friends.""

Sharing drinks and fags is dumb. Don't do it, retards.

This lady can speak of her experiences all she wants, but every country is different. I saw multiple people reblog this on Facebook today, and people are getting hysterical over it.

You know why things got so bad so quickly in Italy? Here's why:

1. The country reacted far too late to it. The United States started to take measures before its first case was found, let alone first casualty.

2. The average age of the people in Italy is about 10 years higher than the United States. This is a huge detail that alarmists are conveniently leaving out when concerning COVID-19

3. As a body of land itself, the United States is far more spread out in terms of population compared to so many other bodies of land, such as China or Italy.

I'm not saying that the United States needs to take it easy and ignore what's going on (and our government isn't doing that, by the way). However, generating absolute panic like this doesn't help anything. Getting people so frantic to the point where they're screwing everyone else over by over buying supplies doesn't help. People not thinking clearly does not help.

Many events have been canceled to the public in the United States already. I'd say that's taking far more effective measures than Italy did before shit hit the fan for them.
I am of a slightly different opinion.

If you look at a population density map of the United States, most of the population of this country is in megopolises and the rest is spread out over a rather vast territorial expanse.

So even though the American Midwest might have a lot of habitable land, most (or a good half at least) clusters up in densely populated areas.

No, I don't think that panicking is appropriate. No air raid siren is going off. But I urge people to take the social complexity and the demographics of the United States into account, when we measure the appropriateness of our government's (Federal, State, County, municipal) responses.

Nice, again.
Switzerland recently got 240,000 masks seized (robbery) by the German officials. The masks were robbed by customs.
This time, Switzerland got a bunch of surgical gloves robbed by customs, and disinfection liquids stolen by Italy.

The gloves were transported via Germany. It's said that this was a mistake and they will let the pallets through... I'd believe German officials as much as I would believe Chinese ones.

I guess Switzerland should route their medical supplies through Austria instead... would that be better? Clearly Germany and Italy doesn't give a fuck about them, and I'm sure France can care less too. Their remaining neighbour would be Austria (and Liechtenstein I guess?). If even Austria houses immoral politicians, then Switzerland is fucked.

I quite like Switzerland, lots of my tools are Swiss Made. Better than German or French ones!

I read on Chinanet that the Eurofag Union isn't willing to help Italy, however China sent tons of masks there. Is this true?
Either way, let's say fuck the EU.

This too, Panyang city of China gave 25k masks to their sister city Sapporo, Japan.
I guess Imperial Nips "Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere" might not be a wet dream if this stuff goes on...

Xiaomi did give masks to Italy. So Chinanet wasn't lying. These are some massive pallets.
I like those poetic phrases. Chinanet claims it's by "Lucius Annaeus Seneca", a famous Italian philosopher. I can't actually find references though I did find similar ones.

The only Italian philosophers I know would be Giovanni Gentile and Julius Evola (both Fascist philosophers).
I did study the ideology out of interest when I was some stupid edgy faggot back in the days.

As much as I like to make fun of Xiaomi products and the name being literally "little rice" which is a way to mock that smol anz microdik, and this might just be a show; at the end of day, it's physically existing medical goods, so it's nice to see. Great work Xiaomi.

So with that aerosol study that said the virus can be spread from breathing and survive on cardboard for up to a day and plastic for up to three day, I’ve decided to start leaving the Amazon packages that get delivered to my house outside for a few days, I Imagine the chances of getting infected from a box to be low, let alone it survive the colder nights, but it’s better to be the crazy dude then sorry, right? :)

I’d suggest you guys take similar precautions possibly spraying them down with disinfectant, if you live in a more “ethnic” neighbourhood so leaving packages outside for a few days isn’t on the table ;)

Saudi Arabia's oil giant Saudi Aramco has apologised after pictures started circulating on social media, showing a man walking around the Aramco office dressed up as a "human hand sanitiser".

"In light of the recent social media photo of our colleague wearing a sterilisation package... [we] express our strong condemnation of this behaviour," Saudi Aramco said in a statement in Arabic, which has been roughly translated to English.

"The company immediately stopped this act and took measures to prevent it from happening again."
