Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

Also, it seems after this morning cooler heads are starting to prevail. We'll have to see tomorrow, specially on madrid, but it seems the politicians didn't expect this many people to respond with righteous indignation to their onslaught, so PSOE tonight has been left impotently making limpwristed "it's totawy worse than pwepopwe reawize the who is so scawed you guys" statements and the right is dropping the dick measuring. If PODEMOS seizes the chance to stab the PSOE and prove better I doubt they'd go ahead and close Madrid, but if they stand by them they might try to turn it into right vs left. Tomorrow we'll see but for now morale has recovered slightly and despite the media's protestations people are pushing back. They better think about next ellections before doing anything stupid.
Can a person have a mild case of Corona-chan without fever? Asking for a friend. :stress:

Edit:To add to @Zig Zag 's NY post, de Blasio gave out the wrong advice to a caller but did cancel the St Sped Patrick's Day Parade.

Yes.

And the answer is.. hell no. They weren't even told about the plaguebearer.

The CPAC story just keeps getting funnier and funnier. CPAC head Matt Schaetz is losing his shit and claiming that Bannon's puppet Raheem Kassam is "driving a stake into his heart" by warning potential victims of his sheeny plague-carrying boss Alan Berger that they should attempt to get tested and not infect any more people.

He's claiming Bannon's puppet Kassam is only doing this because he's mad that he wasn't given a speaking slot (due to the thorough marginalisation of people who claim to believe in Trump's 2016 purported platform this year).

Congressman Matt Gaetz, who CPAC initially lied to, telling him he wasn't in danger, respectfully disagrees.

We indeed have a vaccine. Get my shot every year. But many people don't get vaccinated. You can only have a sense of security about the flu if you are vaccinated.

In fact, only about 170 million people got their shot last year in the U.S., with most of those who didn't being adults age 18-45 (I suspect this includes many on this here forum). In addition, the vaccine for this year wasn't terribly successful; the reports showed a 45% effectiveness. We were already en route to a pretty bad year for flu-related deaths anyway, well before Corona-chan showed up. Quite frankly, people this year should have been worrying about the flu, and they really still should be. Corona-chan's new and scary, but big sis Influenza has a long and proud history of fucking people up too.

If anything, I feel like the "just a flu, bro" talk kinda minimizes how bad the flu really is.

While out running orders my other half was worried about the Wuflu.
And what would happen if we were infected being the sensible type we didnt see the need for a hoard of asspaper or disinfected. if were infected or quarantine we concluded having self stable food for us and are pets was the course of action to take. Hower so far we havent seen people worring about food of any kind odd really

Considering the massive death toll in Italy that's not really comparable to any other country (yet, except maybe China). The Chinese might have made a bio weapon with the express intention of fucking up their competitors in the noodle department.

Brilliant! How else will you get those Western devils to buy your shredded newspapers and gutter oil!?

2:02 p.m. CDC releases positive cases in California by age: Of the 157 cases reported across the state by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, just two are children 17 years old or younger. Adults age 18-64 account for 91 cases; adults 65 and above make up 60 cases and four cases are of unknown age. The total number of cases reported by the CDC is lower than The Chronicle’s Coronavirus Tracker, which is updated throughout the day.

Oh, that really narrows it down! I swear to fucking Christ...

RE: Fear

Some in this thread have repeatedly, and with good intentions, beat on this poor and dying horse. There are thousands of reasons to fear COVID-19. Like many here, I am not fearful of dying -- but I am fearful for my aged parents, aged friends, and close loved-ones working in healthcare. No statistics about the flu or age are going to allay my fears -- my concerns are valid as are many others'.

My point is this: fear is normal and usually healthy. It's a call to action. Don't be shamed out of it, but don't sit on it. Channel whatever energy it musters in you to do something helpful (and sane). In my case -- I have informed my love ones in the least annoying way possible, I've made arrangements that I can go care for them if they become sick, and I've bought extra supplies that I've been gifting. I know some friends thought I was crazy, but everyone knew it came from a good place. I took control of the unknown the best I could and I'm, for now, the most content I've been since February.

If you're fearful, figure out your ''why" and handle it. Pro tip: Neurotically self-soothing and using your nervous energy to tell others to relax is NOT a healthy or constructive outlet -- many world governments and health agencies have used that approach, but it's only had the opposite effect.

It looks like Poland will be ending the day with a "gain" of 9 new confirmed cases, for a total of 31, with the daily number of tested samples steadily growing (almost 400 yesterday). In the last four days we've detected 5, 6, 5 and 9 new cases respectively. Doesn't seem too bad, but looking at Czech Republic just to the south, they've had a similar streak lately (6, 6, 7 and 7 cases detected on consecutive days), and then their count almost tripled since yesterday. We might be at that point now. We're gradually going on national lockdown though - to repeat, banned mass public events, closed schools, kindergartens, universities, nurseries, cinemas, theatres, border controls, flights to and from Italy suspended, everyone urged to stay indoors if at all possible... Maybe this will help. Our healthcare is poor, we need to do everything to relieve the strain.

While in general I'm rather pleased with how things are going - the government isn't being completely dumb, there were long lines in shops today but no real panic, people who think they're infected behave responsibly - there were a few occurences that can make blood boil. Three people suspected of coronavirus infection escaped from their hospitals. I don't quite get it; you might have a potentially deadly disease and you're running away from the people who will treat you and out to spread the infection? Fortunately they were all swiftly apprehended.

I'm a little out of the loop. So, how dangerous is this COVID Coronavirus? Some people I know have been saying that it's about as dangerous as the flu, others have been saying it's worse, a few of them could care less. I just want a clear answer.
Start. With this page and read backwards .... it is a complicated question and even more of a complicated answer. Nobody is going to tell you what to think.
