A lot of my former coworkers are now saying that the Walmart attendance policy thing was just a PR move and they're now walking it back rapidly. Plus individual stores aren't going along with Home Office's plans and people are still getting attendance points because individual store managers aren't going to waive them. It's a fucking mess in general from what I hear. Remix [dry grocery, paper goods, pet food, etc] trucks are basically getting raided as soon as they hit the dock plate, shelves are empty and since most facilities run on a skeleton crew most of the time anyway, the situation will go pear-shaped very rapidly. During my time there, I learned that for a multi-billion dollar company, Walmart is totally fucking unprepared for anything. Contingency plans are only formulated when a small problem develops into a crisis and by that time, it's too fuckin' late and too bad. Small issues were ignored until they became a big fuckin' deal, and anything that was a big fuckin' deal to start with was ignored. There are also Black Friday [actually Black Thursday, thanks retail for fucking over Thanksgiving] level crowds and people forming lines for toilet paper. Some fights too at my local store apparently, lots of arguing. And as expected, people are calling out due to fear or just because they don't give a shit so that skeleton crew is getting whittled down even more.
I'm glad I got the fuck out of retail. Some of the superbugs that would rip through the entire fucking store were awful. Turns out when you have entire departments that must turn up at work almost dying because they can't afford another absence, shit spreads like wildfire. Who knew? Corporate claimed that they were deep-cleaning their stores and disinfecting regularly, but I know that's bullshit. Half of the time we didn't have any people on maintenance, and when we did it was some 70 year old guy who would legitimately spend 8 hours pushing a broom back and forth across the same section of floor.
