Only thing we can do is try to limit it's spread and do damage control until a vaccine becomes available.

Social unrest becomes prevalent by 15 April. Stocks hold at 18,000 on the Dow Jones and ETF traders go belly up. If there is no real quarantine by 15 April, then 300-500,000 deaths across the United States is all but assured by March 2021.

All of this could be avoided if we do real quarantines before 20 March. It is that simple. The WHO made it clear it is that simple. Governments don't want to do what must be done.

This isn't that surprising, sadly.

Remember large portions of inner city schools in the states are effective daycare and food centers for the poor, not learning institutions. Many kids just show up, goof off, eat their free meal(s), then go home. Not much actual academics.

Doesn't help that many are from duel income households where both parents have to work 8-12 hours. Most kids would be by themselves at home with no supervision. The kids do something stupid, then all kinds of liability comes up.

Edit: I agree it's still fucked though. Don't get me wrong. They should still close the schools.

Evening report from Poland. We end the day with 17 new confirmed infections (so three less than yesterday) for a total of 68. Unfortunately there was a second fatality: 73 year old man, co-morbidities, the usual story. He was in critical condition since day one and never recovered. On the good side, from what we know all cases detected today were mild, still only five people on intensive care. Or maybe the stats are lying.

We proceed to lock the door and nail it shut. Closing the borders, by which I mean restoring them: foreigners will be barred from entry, returning citizens and workers with permit will have to undergo obligatory quarantine. Large shopping centers will be partially closed. Any public gatherings over 50 (not a typo) people banned. Restaurants, pubs, nightclubs closed until further notice. I've heard some bleeding hearts are crying it reminds them of old martial law, but they can go fuck themselves.

Still not a single case detected anywhere near me and hope it stays that way. Feeling great myself too, but still sitting inside just in case. If things really go south in the near future, health ministry officials say we have over 10 thousand ventilators and still buying more. Testing capabilities are supposed to be up to 2000 samples a day, more if our microbiologists somehow develop their miracle instant test (yeah, right). The weak links in the chain are personnel stretched thin and basic supplies. Hospitals have no money and little equipment, it's a very inefficient healthcare system. If we don't start mass importing or manufacturing stuff, things are gonna get rough. But it should be easier once EU coughs up the dough.

Random tidbits: Catholics are now dispensed from attending the Sunday mass, but all news sites will be streaming it online. People under quarantine actually stay put according to police check-ups. Not much else really.
