Fibromyalgia isn't real. It's just used by doctors as a way to make attention seekers and opiate junkies fuck off, or as a catch-all for 'we don't actually know whats wrong with you'.
If they're really suffering with something have them push for a proper diagnosis; it could well be something that needs attending.

I just don't like the idea of writing off what could well be serious problems as some bullshit disorder that has no way of being detected, is most prevalent amongst the depressed and obese of wealthy countries, and is untreatable except by happy pills. Lots of people are genuinely ill, but not with this made-up catch-all BS.
I think it's medical negligence to diagnose fibromyalgia and send them off with some benzos and a pat on the back.

IIRC from the munchie thread, fibromyalgia is a diagnosis of exclusion: when all possible causes of widespread pain are ruled out it gets labelled "fibro". It's not always faked, but it's easily exploitable by munchies and malingerers. There's some speculation that it could also be a symptom of depression and I believe treatment has shifted away from opioids to tricyclic antidepressants.
