Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

First deaths where I am. Most patients not severely ill which is interesting (although most are 40-60 and fit, they’re the initial cases from skiing holidays ) but capacity becoming strained.

I have a low fever, a dry cough, my heart isn’t happy and I’m feeling unwell. Confined to barracks at the moment, and extremely glad of the weeks of prepping done. Probably just a bad chest infection took but I’ll never know because nobody is testing any more. We need a rapid POC test ASAP.

Thanks for your many good contributions to the thread

Here is some very smart women trying to shame people to go and eat out and receive take-out at Chinese restaurants. Lets be honest any take-out and restaurant is a potential hazard when you have additional people touching and preparing your food. It's always women who come up with this sorta shit then they get mad and wonder why people do not want female leaders, with the "lets bake cookies for the soldiers" mentality.

Will never cease to be amazed at how exceptional people are getting about this shit. Friend needed to go get milk and a few other things, I told her to check the TP aisle for me for shiggles. lol

cheers, appreciate the thoughts! I’m Ok, I’m sure it’s just another bloody cough, this year has been shit for them.
On the off chance this is it, so far it’s gone:
Very high fever and sweating one night, and tingling in limbs, gone in the late morning, followed by a gradual onset of shortness of breath and a dry unpleasant cough. Palpitations, low fever which fluctuates and fatigue. Same as any chest bug except the palpitations, which are unpleasant. I can tell I’m fighting something off but I’m Ok as long as I don’t exert myself. Husband has same symptoms, kids have a minor cough. This is day 3. We are staying away from everyone as per local guidelines. Probably just a cold.
Colds don't give fevers. You're pretty much on par with the symptoms, included that the kids get hit less hard.

Disney and the school districts and churches etc are shut down to avoid creating hubs. They are shut down in order to soften the curve. When it gets into a contained population like that is when it explodes. With the big danger being it getting into the health care providers undetected. That’s the actual difference between Italy and Iran, and Japan and South Korea. In Italy and Iran it got into both the healthcare system, and the local gathering places, the Mosques and Churches, before it was detected. In Japan and Korea they managed to get the Social Distancing policies in place before it did so, and thus were able to greatly flatten the curve. And that was with the loopy Shinji Cult trying to catch and spread it.

The US is not immune. But we are, at this point at least, somewhat ahead of the game. We do appear to be flattening the curve. We will see some spikes, and nobody is safe from it. There is still a great risk of a breakout somewhere that allows it to vastly propagate. The NYC or similar dense urban hospitals being a big point of concern.

We will see two types of Spikes. Contained Spikes, where the Spike occurs within a tightly contained group and is unlikely to spread much beyond that contained population. Nursing Homes and Prisons come to mind. Beyond spreading to the occupants there is limited potential to go beyond that. Each infected cannot spread to 3-5 other people outside of their contained environment. So the spike peaks with that contained population. These look nasty and horrifying in the news. But are not a sign of things getting out of control in the wider population.

the bigger danger is the Uncontained Spikes. Whereby it gets into a tight but mobile population. A School, Church or heaven forbid Hospital. Where each infected in the tight group can then be taken outside and handed off to others. That’s what triggers the Wuhan levels of shit hitting the fan.

THIS. Information is the best defense against hysteria/fear. RodgerDodger got it right on the money. Well worth sharing far and wide. 🙂 👍

Please take care of yourself. You're one of the smarter people on here and I look forward to seeing more of your posts.

professional street shitter and part time scam microsoft call center employee here. Nothing much has changed, we still banned tourism in india, we have 108 cases and more pending tests. Honestly I don't know what to think. Being the second most populous nation I assumed we would get raped by corona chan but that doesn't seem to be happening. Streets are empty by 9PM and more and more people are working from home. idk but we might come out of this fine. As for prepping hoarding, people seem to doing that here too except we have officers with AK's so there is no fights for toilet paper(like we need that stuff anyways lmao). A fun fact, most people in india grow victory gardens, little gardens in their homes where they grow spices and some vegetables like potatoes and onions. This helps limit the need on grocery stores and limits us going outside for stuff. Thats all I have to say for now.

Most American Chinese takeout is pretty easy to make at home. Healthier homemade, too. If someone's executive dysfunction is bad enough that they can't do basic tasks like put something in the microwave, they need a wrangler. Hate when these jackasses appropriate terms legitimately disabled people find useful. Being too lazy to eat a slice of bread or make cereal is not executive dysfunction.

Ordering food likely requires more executive functions than making cereal.

Bet those Chinese restaurants wished they hired those white guys who applied, eh? I've never seen a non chinese person working at one.

My local Chinese restaurant sold out a chain just before the outbreak.

God bless you Ming.
I like that one of them mentioned social distancing while advocating people eat out. Why would you want to eat food someone else prepared and breathed all over if you're actively distancing yourself from other people to prevent infection? Such fucking buffoons scrambling for woke points.

Avoid people but not Chinese people.

Small spain news. I wanna do meme roundup tonight, dunno if I will. So I need to come clean, yesterday I said I couldn't access my computer. The brightest amongst you might've realized that seems unlikely if I'm stuck home. Well you know how @Joseph Stalin has been telling us to ensure our computer works before shit hits the fan? I'm ashamed to admit I didn't follow uncle joe's advice. You really fucking should. Thankfully I have some help from friends who know their shit but... well I dunno, I'm reinstalling the fucking OS right now.

Sorry for that sidestory. So, point is. A few things:

1) morale still high, daily clapping was put at 8 so kids can do it too (yeah that was dumb I know) and its still just as loud as yesterday. Dumb videos and memes are a godsend. Hospital personnel seriously considering lobbying so the measures to keep family members away and better logistics and organization are kept after the outbreak because it's honestly made everything much better than usual. Most people obeying the laws even if we all make jokes about how to break them. Some exceptions here and there but they're really minor and hilariously enough the biggest group of lawbreakers was a buncha southamerican turists in madrid that apparently have no fucking sense of self preservation and wound up being shamed in the news by their origin countries. Fucking kek.

2) testing in spain heavily reduced, not because of the government just because of people not going, so numbers in spain now more heavily biased than before. Hilariously enough "dead" number still being tested perfectly so THAT number you can trust, which of course makes it seem way more lethal than it is, thakfully people aren't dumb and have realized this.

3) remember how I told you italians can still access spain just not their flights? Seems a lot of italians figured that out and made their way here. Good for you, don't let people shame you for trying to survive. NOT so good for moroccan workers from italy that have made their way to Jerez. I say not so good because the reason they went there is to seek a boat to morocco since they closed transport to Italy. OI FUCKTARDS! THEY ALSO CLOSED TRANSPORT TO SPAIN! If you're trying to break travel bans at least do it from a country that CAN do it! Now we got a buncha moroccans stuck here 'cause they're fucking idiots. Well... more moroccans than usual. 'Cause morocco didn't bother evacuating before closing frontiers. I get it, their hospitals are trash what would be the point of sending people there?

4) finally. Just so you can laugh at our mess of a political system. Yesterday as the measures got set in president Sanchez did some fucking weird shit. Even though measures were set to do the reunion through electronic means he forbid them and set it to presence only. Now... that seems like he was trying to force measures in without consent by some doesn't it? Well that's what he was doing. See. The wifes of both president Sanchez snd Vicepresident Iglesias tested positive for corona. Both of them tested negative. BUT Iglesias was honest about it. Sanchez didn't admit it until TODAY, a day after. Yeah it was Iglesias he was trying to keep out. Why?

Well. Iglesias is from Podemos, they're the left party. Sanchez is from PSOE, they're center left. Yes I know it literally means "sofialist worker's party of spain" and they refer to themselves as "socialists", it's still center left. Why? Well muricans got a party called "democrats" who vehemently oppose actually democratic primaries and no one questions their shit you think we have to make any more sense?! Point is. PSOE actually has a lot of dirty backstage deals with PP, the center right party. Yes I know they were made specifically with the stated intention of bringing back fascism they're still center right. I know it's stupid this is spain if you try to figure it out you'll feel like you're taking crazy pills! Anyway point is, the center hates Podemos, because they are heavily pro-transparency, which heavily fucks over their mentioned backdoor shit. And due to the more radical left side of the membership they're considered as and called "communists" by everyone else. Yes I know transparency has nothing to do with communism and is actually more of a libertarian measure just, again, welcome to fucking spain.

Point is. You might imagine what kinda measure our commies wanted. Right? Let's also mention the right wing has hated this so much that they've been slandering Iglesias for even daring to bring it up, claiming it "breaks national unity" for Iglesias to oppose sanchez, and the PSOE has thrown a hissy fit of epic proportions but had to push it through because they knew how many votes it'd cost them (don't worrry sanchez you already lost)... so. What was it? A tax break for the self employed.

Fun fact. The spanish right wing when they were in government made some outrageous taxing to self employed and small businesses, which are paid first day of the month independently of actual success, which might explain why our economy sucks. The PSOE planned to forbid all actions by these commerces and still tax them to hell and back. But they had to save face when Iglesias decided to fuck him over.

Welcome to Spain, the only country where communists protect the free market against the capitalist's overtaxing. And people think it's weird we got a holyday devoted to throwing tomatoes at each other... WOULD YOU STAY SANE IF THIS WAS YOUR POLITICAL LANDSCAPE?!

And more cheaply as well. I shake my head when I see people begging and wining about not having money for food when they advertise that they subsist on fast food, carry out, or delivery.

What's going on in China? Any news?
I've been watching this stream of live cameras from locked down Wuhan.
The place is like a ghost town.
Very few cars on the roads.
Most people I've seen in one place were at the new hastily built "hospital", about 5 people in hazmats.
There is more activity on the river, cargo boats floating by now and then.

Looking at those apartment buildings I wonder what the smell must be like.

Wonder what the sounds coming out of the buildings are like. Clip was posted here a little while back. What I heard was the sound of hell.
