Update from my town: GF and I went apocalypse shopping today. Toilet paper and paper towels still in stock. Lots of people in the store considering it was noon on a Monday. Pharmacy was absolutely out of all masks and sanitizers, even regular rubbing alcohol and wipes for disinfecting skin prior to an injection. People I know personally report walking into a store closer to the city center and the shelves being completely bare. Looks like the panic has begun here.

note2: the most interesting about this is that the majority of recovered cases are from china, where a very high % of recovered are being either re-infected or wrongfully declared recovered and falling ill shortly after. there are barely over 10,000 people worldwide who have recovered from coronavirus outside of china. the chinese numbers aren't even really believable anymore, they're reporting almost 1/5th the rate of death of every other country's data with no other similar outliers.

Friend of mine wot knows a bit about supply side logistics n all that reckons that Aldi/Lidl etc may find shortages of supplies as they tend to buy the end runs of food that other supermarkets don't always take and rebrand them into their own packaging.

The bigger UK supermarkets are able to browbeat work with their suppliers and their size to make them prioritise fulfilling their orders (and increased demand first) before the smaller supermarkets will pick over what's left and available.

Heck, TESCO the largest of the UK's supermarkets just slashed a bunch of their prices down to Aldi price levels. The Supermarket Wars go on, even in a time of impending crisis.

Further update from central Russia - went to a second pharmacy today to stock up on condoms. Gotta do something while you're cooped up at home, right? Turns out they had isopropyl alcohol wipes, so we're good on that front (I bought the whole 100 count bag because those things are seriously useful, and not just for injections). Small local hardware store had a couple 10-packs of N95 masks - bought those as well. Told the lady behind the counter to keep a couple packs for herself next time they get a shipment in.

Not necessary for now - from what I could tell, the booze shelves weren't any emptier than they normally are. GF jokingly suggested we get a bottle of vodka for disinfectant purposes but I think we'll keep that as a plan B for the time being.

Holy shit. Read through a lot of this thread. I'm in NZ, 8 confirmed cases, and panic buying started on the TP two weeks ago. I'm in a small 40K population city but life is normal here so far. At my regular supermarket, all of the wipes are gone, TP still sparse, and I bought one of about 6 bottles of bleach that were left on the shelf because I didn't already have some. Weirdly there's plenty of spray cleaners left, it was just the wipes that were decimated? Lol. I'm concerned about nappies running out in future but current supplies of formula and medicine seem intact.

There's a 2 week self isolation requirement for all incoming passengers into NZ. They must not come into contact with anyone which makes travel and accommodation difficult for those that arrived after 1am yesterday, roughly 24 hours ago. After information and processing from an airport nurse, check ups will follow up with all in self quarantine to monitor them, and said they're allowed to do things like take walks outside but not socialise with groups of people. "spot checks" are being considered to ensure people are complying. Those who won't isolate may be deported and PM Jacinda Ardern revealed they will escort people to quarantine in hospitals with guards outside their door if required.

Air New Zealand has cut international flights by 85% over the next three months with some locations axed long term including direct to USA etc. They will be laying off staff where possible probably as they're talking with unions, and will have some handholding from the government.
