Had to visit a town of ~20,000 people today in the rural South. After I had finished the business I was there for, I stopped at a Dollar General. It was surprisingly well stocked. The only thing running low was cold medicine. Paper products were fully stocked.
After I left, I stopped by the local Walmart to pick up a few boxes of shotgun shells to take as a gift to an old mentor I know in town. They were completely out of shotgun shells of any caliber. They weren't fully stocked on handgun and rifle ammo, but there was some to be had of everything they sell.
While I was there, I was going to check the pharmacy area, but there were way too many people for me to get a close look. The food section was surprisingly uncrowded. Even with people stocking the shelves, there were loads of empty spots. All of the canned veggies were gone, all of the ramen was gone, only a few bags of rice, about three boxes of popcorn. Frozen food section was very thin. All of the eggs and milk was gone. Two packs of paper towels remained and zero toilet paper. I didn't want to stick around any longer because it was hot as hell in there and I was getting a little paranoid.
Talked to a worker who was collecting carts outside and he said they've had two fights in the last week. Both involved women and toilet paper. I think the world has gone mad.

Australia had 4 cases a month ago or so. That should be alerting, borders should have been secured, Chinese at the airport should have been profiled. This is also a response to the fact that we had over 2 months to prepare for the virus, but our officials didn't do shit, so it's now spreading. Citizens had at least a month to stock on basic supplies, but some didn't. Now people and whinging about stuff being out of stock and demonising those that prepared for their loved ones and family, even going as far as suggesting that looting/robbery will be justified.
While I still think it's unreasonable to buy 300 rolls of toilet paper, those are a fringe within a fringe, I can care less about extreme statistical outliers. Now everyone who prepared, even people like myself are being demonised as dirty hoarders that should be robbed.
