Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

What is this? I just got the metallic taste today and my eyes burn just a little. I've been fatigued off and on for a week. Not a constant dry cough but maybe 4 times an hour. Constant throat tickle I guess. No fever, I feel basically fine. I've been living like a hermit to play it safe but I think it's just a weird cold or something. Girl I work with looked like she was dying and sneezing her head off a couple weeks ago. I think it's the same thing with different symptoms.
No one knows that this is.
It's been going around the USA as far back as December.
Here's the key stuff I noticed.

If you have the three week version.
You will have really bad drainage
Bad cough.
Drainanage will make you loose sleep
Shakes or tiredness
That's week one

Week two varies.
Your lungs get flooded with phlegm.
Nose wont stop running
Awful headache
Bone aches
The bad case of the poops is possible.
Basically influenza on steroids

Week three you will be exhausted
Maybe some gut issues.
More of the above
About here you will start to feel better. I'm trying to think of the other symptoms because they vary. Some people got xyz other people got ex. But they all took 3-4 weeks

Week four you should be recovering but I still have the cough. (If you have it so bad you can sleep, I would cough for hours. Get a doctor to give you a suppressor)

If you have the 2 week version it acts like allergies but a bit worse.

I asked a few doctors and looked allover. Everyone's getting this and there is no name, no concern. Corona is taking fron n center, yet this thing is going strong everywhere and no one cares to look into it. When I ask I hear "it's just something going around"

It's stupid contagious and easy as hell to get. Its spreads fast and other than by air, I dont know how. No one touched anything I touched. It has to be by exposure via air.

You will be miserable and left with that cough. I'm working on month and a half with this. It's not a bad cough but its consistent.

We get it, he's a member of the party, an honourable one. Many medical experts lost their lives who are also members of CPC, them being affiliated with the party in no way deducts from their heroism.
My guess would be that joining the CPC is the only way in current China, if you want to have some career and social prospects, as it was in the USSR. So the doctors might not have been whole-heartedly communists anyway.

I can't see how this could possibly end in disaster.

Let me guess, they aren't grabbing govt owned buildings like emuveteran has described and I'm sure US states have aplenty, but private single-family houses that may or may not on the market. Fuck these assholes.

Eta: if it's getting demolished, maybe ok. But I do not like the way it is being done. This will not end well.

I’ve heard people (mostly bootlickers and corporate people tbh) argue that businesses and landlords can regulate themselves and that they don’t need the government to make them do the right thing. But I think that’s incredibly naive (and I’m saying that as a person who knows she’s naive herself). Some people and some businesses are just gigantic fucking cunts who wouldn’t lose a minute of sleep over kicking people out of their homes during a pandemic when they’re literally incapable of working. There are a lot of parasites out there who profit off of suffering and misfortune, and they think money is far more valuable than people’s lives and wellbeing.

It's also worth pointing out that the people who vote for National Populist candidates like Trump are the people who've been shafted by the corporate version of globalism, and the corporations basically did everything they could to stop him. Even if you've got libertarian tendencies, the case for redistributing from the latter to the former is politically hard to argue with.

Well, besides that massive spike followed by a smaller one, the two are actually identical in overall trend, which is pretty much a normal distribution. China's data looks weird because of that 14k+ spike effectively compressing the y-axis.

South Korea has been doing a great job imo.

Italy reports 5,322 new cases of coronavirus and 427 new deaths, raising total to 41,035 cases and 3,405 dead. Death toll in Italy now surpasses that of China.

Got news from the household member that does the shopping. Market's downright nice to go to. Mostly empty, well stocked, looking at general population's morale is high as shit. Healthcare workers recovering from this morning but to be fair the gaffe fake news has actually been helpful, laughing at each other for falling for this shit has heightened morale which after Moncloa's backstab was needed. The protective gear situation is a bit worrying though. And the 2 outbreaks have taken their tole. But morale is generally high enough. (To quote Brutalmoose "I was bleeding, and in pain, so generally I'd describe my situation as "fine"") spain's spirit can take a lot more than this, specially down south.
So, a buncha fooking retards just decided to try to travel to second homes and family member's homes because they reasoned since they do it every year it's tradition. The meme of this morning of the DGT warning against trafic congestion? Well we've had traric congestion because cops have had to stop people and keep sending them back. Fucking wow. Also btw valencia, which was the autonomy that bitched the hardest about madrid's migrants, was the autonomy with the most morons going around. Slow clap. Abd about madrid...
So now that this morning's mess is behind me and I've had time to relax there's 2 things I wanna say.

1) I'm sorry. This was my biggest lolcow moment. Weirdest shit is you have no idea how many of those rumors from italy, la paz, etc. Like, as I said, our information gathering is mostly through leaks due to how awful our freedom of information laws are. So you can imagine how they can get. So you'd imagine I'd have gotten good at this shit. But this morning was the perfect storm of bullshit. The PP blocking resources and throwing fernando simon under the bus, the PSOE stealing our masks. My general awful healthstate. I listened to the idiots, spread shit, just... SHAMEFUR DISPRAY. And specially becauze I usually know damn well that my oversharing is already a lolcow trait and in case my use of "" in some names doesn't give it away I'm trying to curb that shit.

That being said. I was far from the only one. As I said before all my contacts seemed to believe it at first. But it doesn't end here. Channel 6 has now plastered multiple times one of the audios used as part of this campaign (which doesn't claim 65, claims 75 and immunocompromised, and doesn't claim euthanasia instead claimijg they're left to die. But is equally false.

And why would the media fall for this shit? I mean, other than "they're journos of course they'd fall for everything", there's a reason. A really fucked up reason. This was coordinated. This rumor campaign was made by a small group of medics from madrid, both from public and private, whom after we started bitching about the BLATANT THEFT and other autonomies started bitching about lack of production, decided to abuse their legitimacy on the rumor mills to spread that shit to make the situation in madrid appear worse than it is, the public ones so as to keep the rest of the public healthcare submissive and the private to see if they managed to avoid having heir gear seized.

2) and so we get to point 2. Dear people from madrid. You're making it REALLY FUCKING HARD not to hate you. I have to actively remind myself that this is just a few bad apples and most of you aren't assholes and don't deserve to pay for the rest. But you keep acting egotistically, spreading the disease, breaking the law, seizing other's gear and spreading shit.

Again. I know it's just a few of you, I know most are good people. But fucking hell, man. Even Catalonia is helping us now. And they wouldn't even need to help IF YOUR ELECTED GOVERNMENT WASN'T STEALING FROM US. We were already using way too fucking little gear so as to donate to you most. But ALL? Dude there's a fucking breaking point and when you make the god damned jews of catalonia look like heroes you know we're damned close to that point. And I don't care how moronic your officials are because we're all spanish here our officials are all crap. But far from some humility all I've seen from you fuckers is "yeah duh of course they do that we need it more", WE'VE HAD 2 OUTBREAKS ON THE HOSPITAL ALREADY WE NEED IT TOO. We still only got the first outbreak's objective number and it infected 37 fucking people. 37 HOSPITAL WORKERS that were trying to keep people alive. So please. Stop actively fucking with us. We have patience. We have solidarity. But please do remember we are also human. And can also die. Much like catalonia has made me proud, you're disapointing me.
Does emperor pooh personally give you hand jobs for every bit of shill posting you attempt. you're not fooling anybody communist khajiit everybody knows your country is a backwards third world dumpster fire 🔥. now get back in line like a good contest and wait for your daily ration of rice and misery

No. Obviously Xi allows him to give him a blowjob for every shill posting.

YouGov has released a report.

The UK is almost as chilled as the Scandinavian Countries, taking a fortnight of pandemic to reach 38% people being "worried" about COVID-19.

The Handwashing Campaign has worked well, with "personal hygiene" (aka following the campaign) as noticing personal hygiene has risen from 35% to 61% in just two weeks.

We also come bottom in other draconian measures, such as:

  • Avoiding all tourists (just 12%).
  • Refraining from touching any surfaces in public (30%)
  • Support of quarantining all Chinese Tourists (19%)
  • Quarantining any location a confirmed case has been (18%)
  • Providing free masks to everyone in the country, somehow (16%)

Basically, British attitude outside of some shopping has been Keeping Calm and Carrying on.

UK still based! Good job.

You know it's ironic you should say that. I was watching Governor Cuomo's news conference the other day, and one of the journo fags asked a follow up question about if the media should be considered essential business. The Gov almost burst out laughing and said it would depend on who you ask. He did not provide an answer :lit:

Information IS essential business. What these fuckers consider journalism sure as shit ain't.

If it's anything like in spain they'll send them to guard the supplies in high criminality areas, and mostly to clean shit in hazmats.

been noticing a lot of sticky, solidified lungs in bodies that weren't tested, but came through as bronchitis, pneumonia, "flu" (doesn't harden/fill up lungs), etc.

I'm thinking that there are a lot more people dying of this than even the doomsayers are thinking. We just are not testing. I'm pretty overwhelmed, flashbacks to the AIDS years and the like.

Any word on what's happening to those tests Ma was giving?

I'm not very political about this generally, just becoming more shell shocked as time passes.

stay out of the park
keep wearing your mask

don't eat their lungs, or any meat from the head and chest

editing because I feel a responsibility to add info.

cases tested positive here: 40-odd
cases that I believe should have been tested: about 150
cases that I likely would have looked at harder, had I known this lung property was part of the pathology a month ago: about a thousand by now

we have had a lot of respiratory deaths this last two months. I mean a lot- in age groups that usually don't die from it, as well as a higher number of elderly. almost no children at all except those with cancer. this is bigger than you'd think.

I work regionally usually so until last month I was seeing the regional picture. I'm currently on site in one place. I tend to end up called in or traveling to shore up workers at various places this time of year, I haven't done any of that now. I won't be traveling. at all, likely for a long time.

the ICU workers are getting sick. there's a lot of nurses down. only a few tested. most stay gone for a week or two then come back. CNAs too.
we had a really good doc die. he was one of my favorite people- he was working in the path lab on epidemiology of this. if you are relatively local to me you can guess what system I work in from that- but there's a good number of locations so I don't feel like I'm breaking HIPAA by giving info.

anyone not wearing a mask around people is endangering themselves. even a scarf is better than nothing. if you are around people who are sick you must mask up. even a fabric mask.

doing an intubation/autopsy, we have better ppe of course because we're aerosolizing fluids as we work. we are low on ppe. I won't work without it, so I'll be trying to make it last.

that's all I can really say. don't spread it. I don't want it to be as bad as I'm thinking it is going to be.

That does sound worrying. Hope situation stabilizes. If you think it's needed maybe we can sound the alarm in some way, keep us posted.

Why are people saying masks won't work then changing their tune to "wear a mask"? Wasn't it proven because it can get in the eyes and face anyway, or did something change?

I'm not, myself. The healthcare workers obviously need mask and goggles. Mist people don't. Most people are better served using precautions and handcleaning. Hospital staff of course can't just do that, they need to actually care for the patient. It's all about who we're talking about.

Working from home update. IT stuff seems to have stabilised and is OK for the most part.

Management seem to he panicking about people slacking off though, putting in daily video conference meetings. Trying to spin it under the guise of welfare though 'oh we just want to check in to make sure you are all safe and in a good headspace'.

Fuck off and just let me do my work in peace, if I need to video conference I'll tell you.

Lucky you for getting to work at home though, I’m a receptionist and I’m stuck manning the phones and covering for my coworker.

That being said, it’s amazing how some management insists on babying and micromanaging their employees. Can’t just let people be adults and work on their own, nope, you gotta check in on them like you’re their kindergarten teacher.

Also, Corona-chan has proven that a lot of white collar/office work can be done from home, it’s just outdated social norms about the importance of “going to the office” that forces people to commute to workplaces. Amazing how so many jobs “couldn’t possibly be done from home, you have to come in every day” and yet people are now able to do them.

Coworker tested positive so I just went through a drive-through test here in NYC, kinda fun to be honest!
Where is that? If I have to take the train I'll pass since I'll probably get it when a homeless bum sprawled out on the subway coofs on me.

the temporary stays on Eviction is really neat in theory but I know my apartment complex has a late fee of about $25 a day
so whoopity shit you don't get evicted for a month then you owe them a whole fuckload more and get evicted the minute they take it down

NYC Housing Court judges will disallow that if you pay the rent owed, I don't know about other places. Worth a shot in these extraordinary times.

looking at general population's morale is high as shit.

This is one of the most striking things to me. It kind of feels like post-9/11. Everyone is getting together (by standing apart) to get together. Good American values, feels special. Americans are actually pretty good at this sort of thing, although we've been spared a lot of really serious disasters on a national scale (smaller regional ones happen all the time though with storms etc. leading some people to be better prepared mentally and materially.) I feel like apart from people who are naturally anxious (including a few family members of mine) and/or who sperg about whatever the news says, who are freaking out a bit and occasionally you see someone kind of snap, but generally people are being good to each other. It's a good feel. If it lasts, any attempt to smack Trump with the coronavirus will backfire spectacularly.

I was in a long line today (OK, the pot shop ... was open but the line has been insane recently, people are stocking up...but talking about a fucking recession-proof business, they are making money hand over fist) and some sperg and/or intoxicated person was in line after me. He kept breaking social distancing and getting up in my face even touching my shoulder at one point, talking about all sorts of crazy shit including the "program" he was in (mental illness or substance abuse, idk.) I just kind of turned my back and ignored him which, being a sperg, he didn't get very quickly. Then they called for the last group of people before making people get appointments like an hour and a half later. I turn around and the sperg, who, remember, was behind me in line had jumped ahead of me and that was the cut-off. I was trying to shun him and not catch the coronavirus from him but he wound up seeing an opportunity to sneak in ahead of me. Back to my first point, this was the first dickish behavior I've seen lately apart from a Negress bellowing at some poor customer service agent, which is common enough to forget about. People in general are being extra nice, even people working the register and shit who are usually fairly sullen.

We need a disaster to become a polite society. Maybe the accelerationists are right about that in a way. Either that, or we are all experiencing the joy that comes with the blessing of Papa Nurgle.

I'm probably being optimistic but feel issues like this will be addressed in the aftermath. Fees waived, gov rights a check, tax deductible, or whatever else.

But I could just be too optimistic.

Nobody has seem to post this yet:

[from Zero Hedge]

President Trump announced that chloroquine has been fast-tracked by the FDA for use in coronavirus patients in the United States (the FDA has denied this).
...
The drug, chloroquine, was first approved in the US in 1949, and has been widely used as a low-cost method to treat a variety of diseases, including malaria, lupus and rheumatoid arthritis. In several studies and through anecdotal evidence, chloroquine appears to significantly limit the replication of COVID-19, particularly when combined with antibiotic azithromycin (Z-Pak).

In a study published Wednesday by French physician-researchers, a total of 36 patients (20 who were treated with chloroqine and 16 controls who were not) revealed that 50% of the treated group turned from positive to negative on the third day - which grew to 70% by the sixth day.

Six test patients were treated with both chloroquine and Z-pak, and all six tested negative for coronavirus on day six.
...
Both the Dutch CDC and the Italian Society of Infectious and Tropical disease have recommended the use of cloroquine for coronavirus patients, along with doctors from China, South Korea and Belgium - which have added the drug to their treatment guidelines. Meanwhile there are over two dozen clinical trials are currently underway to study the efficacy of the drug.
...

That said, chloroquine is not without side-effects, including headaches, dizziness and stomach problems up to and including diarrhea. All of which would be preferable to dying of coronavirus.

...Meanwhile, US physicians aren't waiting for the trial results - as prescriptions for choloroquine have surged from 531 weekly prescriptions to 1,290...

The doctor who has been memeing this up was on the radio today promoting chloroquinine as essentially safe; this is fake news and a lie. It might work, I have some skepticism, but it's not quite a drug you prescribe casually. It's not hardcore terribly dangerous, but they were talking as if it's something far more, let's say, "casual", that it actually is. They even said it doesn't interact with stuff which is a lie from the pit of hell, it fairly notoriously does. Googling "chloroquine interactions" and "chloroquine side effects" will inform anybody about that.

Chic Hamptons food stores ransacked by the wealthy amid coronavirus pandemic
“I’m spending $300 to $1,000 a day on food and supplies,” she said. The money goes toward chicken and salmon steaks, some of which she freezes, as well as for cleaning supplies and food for her dogs.

“I even bought the drugstore out of all its dental floss. I wanted to make sure I had enough, along with extra toothbrushes, soap, toothpaste and body lotions,” she said. “If I have to be quarantined, I better look nice.”
