Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

Remember, the National Socialist Party in Germany started as a bunch of proto-hippies who just wanted to see a better integration of industry and governance.

The convergence of right-wing and left-win interests turned that government into something that gets mentioned more often today than Republican and Democrat combined.

AOC and Trump must be prevented from uniting into a super-demagogue. It would be unstoppable.
At long last the extreme Left and extreme Right will unite and rise up to kill the filthy centerist menace that has held back humanity for too long!

The combination of left-wing economics with right-wing social policies is a pathway to many events that some consider to be unnatural.

My guess would be that joining the CPC is the only way in current China, if you want to have some career and social prospects, as it was in the USSR. So the doctors might not have been whole-heartedly communists anyway.
It's actually not.
Only the top kiddies and people with connection gets to join the CPC first. I've came across plenty very successful people that aren't even in the CPC Youth League.

That said, being successful and being a public figure... I'd say joining the CPC is a requirement.

But then I found out that this guy isn't a member of the CPC: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ma_Huateng
He's pretty much the second known extremely successful guy with the surname of Ma. He owns Tencent.

I also found out that the creator of Baidu, China's search engine of choice, Li Yanhong isn't a member of the CPC: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robin_Li

So my conclusion would be no, joining the CPC or otherwise won't have a big effect on how successful the person is. Using party connections will definitely grant one an advantage, as is the case with our crony capitalist system, however the truly able will be successful no matter what. One would think that both Robin and Pony Ma would join the CPC, or coerced into joining the CPC to make the party's mianzi look good. Turns out to be untrue, urgh I'm wrong again.

From my experience, members of the CPC aren't regarded as masters or anything. I've never came across anyone there and had a conversation about being or not being a party member. I know hating CPC is the norm here, I'm proudly one of them, but I have to say that the CPC is nowhere near as cultist, delusional, and fractured as the USSR was, even if people want to believe so. Never underestimate an opponent just because it feels good.

China's going to give out rewards to medical experts and related people on the front line of virus combating. There's this show called “感動中國 People who touched the heart of China”, where Chinese would get awards for their work in education, charity, and what-not. I'll log all the people to see if they are affiliated with the CPC or not. My guess is going to be 50/50. I'll add it onto my to-do list.

Surprised that no one brought up this... could he have been made into a member of the CPC after he died to deflect criticism? This can be easily proven or disproven, looking up party members on Chinanet is incredibly easy. Transparency when it comes to the routes politicians/successful people take to get into power is something I like about China. That's how people on Chinanet demystified the fraud that is the leader of Wuhan's P4 lab, some thot who spread her legs into success. All they had to do was look up public records.
This is the website to use: http://www.gov.cn/zhengce/xxgkzl.htm
You do need fluency in the Chinese language to navigate and use the site.

And yeah, he is an actual CPC member. He talked about it on Weibo and there's also a statement made by his wife. When he died, a bunch of weird news started to pop up, saying that his wife asked others for help,

His wife got doxxed with this fake statement (phone number is actually hers, redacted, her address wasn't), which forced her to make a proper one, found on her weibo:

Very professional response, well written too. The fake one looks like it was slapped together by some 3rd grader.

Then someone claimed University of Harvard had their flag half way up in remembrance of Dr Li. A lie. Seriously, why the fuck would anyone lie about this? You're one google image search away from the truth. It's so retarded. China's fake news is retarded too, don't get me wrong. To this day, some delusional retards still think Trump actually made a tweet saying that the president should be shoved in a cannon and shot into the sun. Read about it here. But there's no damage, including someone's actual phone number and their address will bring legit damage.

Twitter is a shit source, so is weibo. That's why I always preface information found on weibo with "might be fake".
I also saw Telegram chatlogs where those HK protesters were using his death to signal about freedom of speech in Mainland China. I support freedom of speech, but I'm not going to straight out lie about a person to get the point across. Dr Li is a reason why freedom of speech is important, not the lies people tried to fabricate of him when his body was still warm.

The people who made the fake statement and included her dox are fucking despicable. It's likely those little HK shits. That could have got her into very serious trouble. Her husband just died, and she then had to deal with phone calls from random idiots online.

Here's his selfie:

You can clearly see the CPC badge. Only members of the party would wear that.

My 2 cents is simple. This guy is a real role model for all medical experts and CPC members. Not Mao, neither are some of the other glorified revolutionary fuckwits in the old and early days of China. He is a humble doctor and hero.

@Otterly how do you take a medicine in tablet form with a tube down your throat?
You can give it in IV format or even single injections. I suspect the article is misreported, I doubt Roche will be giving it all in hard tablet formulation (please god...) Roche will have said doses and reporter will Have written pills.
Good PR move for Roche - it’s cheap to produce so this won’t cost them that much. Probably a bit less than a small ad campaign. Few million bucks at most. You’d wet yourself if you saw the marketing budget the average pharma company has.
Someone earlier said that the doc who finds whatever treats this is rich. Wrong, my friends, wrong. The scientists working for such companies, and the people, including the medics, who run, arrange, and manage trials, basic research and drug discovery get paid peanuts in comparison to the marketing, sales and business development boys and girls. They’re the ones with the fancy salaries. Bob in the lab will get his nice but nothing fancy salary just like he did before.
I’ve often thought there’s an inverse relationship between the worth of a persons work to society’s greater good, and what they’re paid, in many fields.
I feel unwell, and my cough is worsening.

literally just had a conversation with a chinese guy about why he should stop spitting in public (actually, indoors)

he refused to do it until I could convince him it wasn't merely some weird Western cultural norm. It was one of my more bizarre and memorable conversations of the day.
There are iconic posters from the Spanish flu era that admonish people not to spit. The health campaigns then and since made it a cultural norm not to spit on sidewalks for decades. We've had a decent time of it since. Sidewalk oysters are making a comeback though and maybe Singapore style beatings of spitters should become customary.

Do you guys think the U.S will take longer or shorter to see a decreased trajectory similar to China's? I'm thinking longer because China went draconian hard and fast to shut shit down, I don't think the U.S government has the will to follow suit.
On one hand we don't have a Wuhan that hides all evidence of it spreading there, but on the other hand we don't really have enough tests despite knowing that it is here..... I'm also thinking longer, though I might end up being wrong (I also tend to be a natural pessimist in my predictions too).

I had to double check this was real. I'm floored. I am really glad SOME of our political leaders are actually working together on this. We might have a chance, guys.
The republicans are more vocally advocating for these measures than the fucking democrats, our simulations well and truly fucked.

There used to be spittoons in many british pubs. You’ve probably heard the phrase ‘spit and sawdust’ to mean a rough establishment. That’s because they used to put sawdust in the spitoons to soak it up before they cleaned them out. And there’d be sawdust On the floor too. Bennet’s on leven street in Edinburgh still has theirs (not in use thank fuck.) Spitting used to be a huge thing here.

My $0.02.

We'll know for sure mid-May, but we're not going to reach epidemic proportions because of the social distancing and hygiene.

Every place that there's been a big breakout, the air quality index is low and people aren't exactly known for keeping the streets free from spit.
