Because keeping morale high is important, I'm trying to RT less "wow look at THIS quote from foaming at the mouth transphobe on their forums" posts. This is notable as an exception though for 3 reasons. 1- As others have mentioned "I don't want a trans person to deliver things" is... while not actually any less naked about the bigotry than "I don't want to share a public bathroom with a trans woman," here we aren't even bothering with providing some ridiculous lie to paint that as a "legitimate concern" someone might have.
2- This whole panicky post is NOT a story of actually meeting a trans woman face to face. It's a purely speculative piece written by someone who just had the horrific realization that what I have to assume has been otherwise a meticulous-to-a-point-of-being-a-clear-indicator-of-untreated-debilitating-paranoia effort to take every possible preemptive measure to ensure they will never under any circumstances be at risk of even seeing a trans woman, and have just had the horrifying revelation that they forgot to account for delivery people.
3- WOW, the extreme sexism on display in the following posts that any job at all adjacent to providing people with food is "women's work." Like, even without any of the transphobic context what kind of sick fantasy world is this person living in where they picture the entire service industry as like cute little eager maids? And of course, it stands to be emphasized that none of this is at all atypical of how removed from reality and really just basic functioning civility this entire crowd is.
How utterly detached from the world and submerged in absurd bigoted fantasy messages do you have to be to have this sort of irrational mortal terror just completely consume your life and your every waking thought that you'll just somehow die on the spot if you even look at a member of the tiniest little fraction of the general population?
And then you have to realize that these are also the people who, despite clearly never actually encountering anyone they know to be trans (as after all, if they had, they surely would have been killed by our gaze attack), are the people pretending to be authorities on the subject and constantly writing propaganda pieces. It's kind of this fascinating paradox really. This degree of hate and fear towards trans people is only really possible because people are able to go their entire lives without ever (knowingly) seeing one of us.
It actively requires both the rarity and the invisibility, really. Redheads are roughly as common as trans people, and there was totally a time when that was cause to be subjected to the fully literal sort of witch hunts, presumably because people were less likely to ever meet people not born within a few miles of them and there was room to get all weird and paranoid about people you just hear descriptions of from other people who get around more, but aside from some weird freaking lingering hypersexualized stereotypes, that wouldn't really fly today because red hair kinda stands out in any crowd big enough and nobody's being ritually sacrificed by any of the people who have it.
People under the rest of the queer umbrella used to deal with literally all the same crap trans people get from bigots, where again, you can't actually be sure from looking at any given person what their sexuality is, but over the last few decades there's been a big enough push for visibility, and it's common enough to be gay or bi, that if someone DOES try to claim all gay men eat babies on the full moon, it's safe to assume someone can point out "OK you personally know dozens of gay men," so that fantasy is going to be swiftly deflated.
The only minority I can think of that's still really capable of facing this particular sort of paranoid fantasy born of a vague awareness that a particular sort of person exists coupled with a total lack of firsthand information is all the weird baggage people have about Roma. Who they of course exclusively refer to with the G slur, not knowing it IS a slur, in large part because a good number of people don't even know they're talking about a real group of people when they throw it around and not some sort of folkloric/fantasy concept like wizards or leprechauns or something. And of course true to my theory that total vacuum of firsthand knowledge absolutely leads to people thinking up all sorts of deeply terrible myths where people put magical curses on people and commit crimes involving every possible combination of babies/small children and theft.
And honestly, when you really stop and think about it, the hotspots for all forms of bigotry tend to follow these same patterns. Racism tends to be more prevalent and more extreme anywhere that everybody is white. Raging misogyny's biggest tentpoles are always erected in spaces where it's somehow possible for large numbers of men to gather who have never really had any sort of personal connection to any woman who was not a blood relative, or at least where such connections are rare.
