Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

I'm saying it wouldn't happen, it definitely would happen. It's a risky gamble that I doubt Trump will take, but if things spiral out of control and you have mass graves, people dying in the streets and the country is going to be wrecked then he'd do it and whatever it takes to get the US going again.

Besides, there's no right to coof on people in Constitution.

Honestly, I would rather die of the Wu-Flu, than see the Constitution suspended, for ANY reason, whatsoever. Our own lives are going to end. Our legacy outlives us. We will be remembered by the precedents we establish, and by what we leave behind.

"Here's some for free, now fast track me a license to start selling it,"
They already have a License to start selling it, you can get generic versions for 5 bucks.

"Don't shout fire in a crowded theater," escalates pretty quickly to, "You're continued interference is detrimental to our efforts, you're a threat and will be detained,"

It also has a bunch of Caveats to it that people choose to ignore, such as. "Shouting Fire in a crowded theater..when there is in fact a fire is protected speech"

Thank you Connor Reed for the information.

This guy is very, very young.

It sounds like he survived ... with complications?

Any drs in the house?
Please state where in this body of text the complications are listed. I've read the article twice and listened to the video, not once did he mention problems he was still having, all the issues he talked about were when he was actively sick. The only long term effect MAY BE that he is still congested, however given he is living in heavily polluted wuhan and given how long corona can stay in the system coupled with the low quality medical care and food in china, and him being stuck with a crappy laptop webcam, hardly a surprise. He's not struggling to breathe, not coughing, not wheezing or turning red. He looks fine.

There may be some permanent damage if he had pneumonia, but that is not limited to coronavirus, any pneumonia will do that. People keep claiming there is lung damage in these survivors ala SARS, but so far every time it has been claimed the data backing it up is flimsy at best or nonexistent at worst.

Can't speculate. I think that you are being optimistic. Maybe there is a hereditary suseptability problem, that epidemiologists are researching ... comparative studies ... data is being processed? :optimistic:

But this is all new.

At this point, I am begin to get concerned about the mortuary, crematory, burial, cemetery, forensic pathology, bodies in freezers ... dimension.

Like cremation is more time consuming and expensive and bulky, than we realize.
When you see a disease, even coronavirus, spread like fire through a family like this, there is usually an underlying cause. The first 55 year old victim died only 3 days after the gathering, and presumably her symptoms started beforehand. That is a very quick death only seen in patients so far with pre existing lung damage, usually combined with athesma, COPD, autoimmune disorders, or heart problems. Same with the others, whom died 8-10 days after this party. If they got infected at this gathering, that is a very quick turnaround time even based on our limited data.

"Don't shout fire in a crowded theater," escalates pretty quickly to, "You're continued interference is detrimental to our efforts, you're a threat and will be detained,"
I feel you, but I'm not going to be worried about my rights when I'm choking to death on my phlegm because the ChiComs refused to send us a tiny circuit board for a ventilator.
Honestly, I would rather die, than see the Constitution suspended.

Christ you people are really mad at the internet today.
You don't think that China is being hostile when they are spreading the false information on the world stage that the United States is responsible for this? Really?

Also ... "Nuking Freedom of Speech." Dude. So it's just okay for the press to cover for Commie China by crying "muh racism" just because the Orange Man is Bad? You think it's okay for the press to call everyone who was concerned about COVID-19 months ago "waaaacist" only to put the entire nation on shit-spewing panic mode this past week? You think it's okay that the media distracted the American people from paying attention to this for months just to have them focus on a bullshit impeachment instead?

I'm not saying to silence the press, mind you, but I am saying that their shit needs to be called out big time and that there should be some backlash and consequences for the shit that they continue to pull. Freedom of Speech does not entail any right or entitlement to their credibility.

And it's about damn time that our businesses and corporations tell China to fuck off. It's time to stop China's economic influence around the world. I'm not saying we need to go to war, but I am saying that it's about damn time to kick them in the coin purses. Hard.
Whether I think China is being hostile is not the point, dude. Take a xanax or five and read my post again. And I've said like five times I think the media is being retarded. I just happen to actually believe in the principle of free speech regardless of whether I like that speech. Calm down.
Pretty interesting that everyone's true colors come out when shit hits the fan.
Pretty horrifying honestly. Free speech as long as it's speech I like!
Honestly you are right and I am letting my being mad over this get ahead of me. The US media are being scum bags but it's not enough to risk giving daddy government power to spank then.

That said you are wrong about them not taking marching orders from Beijing. Most US news corporations are now owned by major multinationals like Disney, Viacom and Amazon. These companies do huge business in China and unlike in America the Chinese government absolutely leverages its authority to MAKE them do what they want. Most of these think pieces were written by the Ministry of Public Security, handed to these corporations and ORDERED to put one of their American journalists in the "by line" and publish it "or else".
See that would actually be really interesting. Not an entirely implausible theory, but I don't necessarily think it's more likely than the obvious answer that the media is just being retarded in the way they usually are. Especially since this retardation looks exactly like all their past retardations, and China's status as an economic powerhouse is in the absolute shitter right now.
Others have posted the reasons why China is indeed a hostile foreign power so I won't repeat them but you realize the Constitution can be suspended? Lincoln did it during the Civil War and Grant did so again during Reconstruction. You underestimate the ability of a slick lawyer to craft a convincing a memorandum supporting it.
Yeah that's bad though. "Well OTHER people have violated civil rights" isn't really a compelling argument for doing so.

CA's Fuhrer Newsom commands all 40 million Calfornians to leave home only when necessary.

These measures are required across the entire United States unless we want to see 120 Million infected in 8 weeks. And at least 2 Million dead.

But I think the United States will fair worse in this than other countries primarily due to the limitations of such orders. I've been a resident in California and if you wanted to enforce the order, it would require deployment of the half if not the entire United States Army. Los Angeles alone is a sprawl like no other and you'd need 100,000 just for that mega-sprawl.

So realistically speaking it will not happen. Some will stay in, most will not.

People will only remain home when the numbers of infected and dead rise so high it scares them into remaining indoors.

This is a very difficult time and we are asking our populations to do something extraordinary, and ultimately, something they just can't do. We are a country hooked on the most debt, we've the most cars per person, we just cant ask for people to stay at home and watch TV and movies and pretend that their credit cards are going to pay for themselves or the rent.

The governments are asking something they can't unless they provide a package relief somewhere in the order of $4,000 per month, per American that needs it. And in addition to this, they are going to have to guarantee it for 2 months so that we don't have anxiety. so the idea of $1200 per person isn't going to cut it.

It's going to cost $4000 x 250 Million Americans that need it x 2 months. So that is 2 Trillion. Just for the Americans, not Wall Street or big business. Pay up or the quarantines wont really happen.

Whether I think China is being hostile is not the point, dude. Take a xanax or five and read my post again. And I've said like five times I think the media is being exceptional. I just happen to actually believe in the principle of free speech regardless of whether I like that speech. Calm down.

You're comparing things that aren't exactly alike, though.

There's a distinct difference between expression of opinion and claiming to report what is the truth. The media, for whatever reason these days, is still a trusted thing to be informed about what is going on in the world. They have undeniably failed at their jobs, and they keep failing. Their work has been incredibly dishonest.

I don't think anyone should write this off as "Welp, that's just their freedom of speech." There should absolutely be consequences to misleading the entire country on serious issues such as this. There is a responsibility to uphold when being a journalist-- a responsibility to report what is the truth to many people who depend on them for the correct information.

And when you look at the news networks, you can't help but wonder about who is on who's payroll. For years, Disney has been catering to the Chinese. Disney owns some of the news media in the United States, my dude. Is it crazy to start suspecting that many in the media are being dishonest because they feel the need to answer to a Chinese audience? I don't think it is.

It's rotten, from top to bottom. There needs to be a change.

You can expect more of this as the reality of SARS-CoV-2 sets in.

When you ain't got no toilet paper left, your political ideology is the only thing you have.

The info for today was wrong.

Yesterday, 145
today, 234.

It was the peak caused by the many young people who went out when the patient zero was announced. Our president already hinted us it would be up. Many things he said start to maek sense. We are preparing for more patients tomorrow.

We also had 3 deaths today: two patients who were in ICU and didn't make it. Another one, was at home waiting for the test result. When they got it today and went to his home, he was already dead. He died alone :C

Guys, I don't care what your leaders say, what your gov. say: stay home. wash your hands and stay home. If you don't want to be put in a curfew, do this. Don't leave your houses, protect your elders. This is very bad.

Stay safe, kiwis. No matter what, we're gonna make it.

We here in Germany are about two days away from a curfew is my guess. People have been completely ignoring this and used the additional time of all the non-essential stuff closing to go outside and meet with groups of friends. Schools closed down too so kids and teenagers everywhere, as I wrote earlier, the weather has been good. Young people have spontaneous get togethers they call "corona parties". Others think the world is ending and keep the store shelves empty, causing logistical problems. Verdict: People are assholes, what else is new? The death rate almost doubled in a day too. I do hope it makes the reality of the situation set in for some people but I also feel it's not likely. The last 30 years were too comfortable, people feel invulnerable.

I've been pretty sick for two weeks about a week ago and I'm starting to think I already had it. I'm still stuck with a somewhat scratchy throat that takes a bizarre long time to go away. I also know several people that report the same.

"There needs to be a change" is a huge jump away from "journalists are committing treason by saying oranj man bad." I agree that the state of mainstream journalism these days is JUST tier, but I think government censorship of the press is the absolute last thing anyone needs. The integrity of investigative journalism needs to come back, but honestly that seems more of a question of funding/readership than anything, and not something a govt Ministry of Truth should get involved in.

Niggas be going crazy out here, online and IRL, and the deaths haven't even really started yet. Good thing I'm armed.

I never said that I would off myself. And the posibility of losing everything, and dying in the street, choking on my phlegm is horrific. .... But our lives are temporary anyway. So is our suffering.

Tolerating the suspension of the Constitution, is tantamount to shitting on the lives of the men and women who fought, suffered and died for the liberties we enjoy today.

That move would set a precedent, that could undermine the foundation of our democracy and the freedoms that we enjoy, in a time of crisis. Next time we have a crisis, or even this time, Prez. Could turn himself into a dictator. Why not continue to manufacture crises, to maintain absolute power?

Is this the America that YOUR ancestors sacrificed themselves to build?

Sorry ... I too am a feline-ist. Have my share of cats too. But honestly undermining the Constitution for the sake of my own self-preservation is a sacrifice that I don't want posterity to be forced to make.

Yeah that's bad though. "Well OTHER people have violated civil rights" isn't really a compelling argument for doing so.
It wasn't an argument, I was just reminding you all it's been done. Bush suspended habeas corpus and got slapped down for it. It's happened and it will happen again. My argument is that it's an extraordinary measure that should only be done during extraordinary situations for a limited time. Again, I don't see Trump doing it unless it looks like the Chinese virus will destroy our country and the CCP shills in the media are actively helping with demoralization and outright lying.
Good thing I'm armed.
Don't tell anyone.

It's definitely a hard call but when you have people in the MSM outright declaring they'd be happy to violate the Bill of Rights because feelings, guns, racism or whatever snowflakes are crying about this week as well as siding with a foreign power, I'd be fine with it as long as its temporary during a pandemic, state of emergency and the very possibility of civil unrest. Only during the mother of all political perfect storms.

I once lived in a country during a civil war. It was terrible and scary and what kept me from going insane was knowing I could come back to the USA where I had rights. I don't approve of a suspension of my rights lightly.

What timescale were those cases spanning?
mid January to now
Why are people saying masks won't work then changing their tune to "wear a mask"? Wasn't it proven because it can get in the eyes and face anyway, or did something change?
it's always helped at least a little; they lied to prevent panic buying.

I don't care what side you fall on, in this case orange man bad, horrible, fucked us all, Pooh man bad, horrible, fucked us all

both fucked up. trump for profit and ping for power, but both fucked up massively.

I'm caught between hoping these germ-spreading fuckers just die at home alone without bothering us and wanting to throw them into a fucking volcano. spreading this is inevitable but there's no fucking reason we should be this overloaded.

anyone not hammering home how serious this is should be shot for public endangerment/murder at this point.

doesn't matter what it costs, do anything to keep people the fuck inside and away from other people

I feel like a dick but I'm basically using my friends and family in Illinois as my canary here.
I currently live in Florida where yes- folks are still going nuts but our restaurants are open. People for the most part are going about their lives. But once Illinois calls a lock down or stops selling liquor at stores I'm buying like 6 bottles of whiskey to hoard.
If you haven't been shit canned yet or have a job where that simply won't be the case please support local businesses. Basically if there's a place you want alive ( your favorite BBQ etc) either get take out or go in. Don't let this shit kill local economies for as long as possible.

As many have pointed out- if you need groceries etc try local chains or mom and pop shops.

Am I the only one barely tending the cows right now? DSP could be dead from gout and unless null had it on the home page I probably would not have noticed

Good luck fellow kiwis!

Fair enough. Good point, even. I think doing so would be so catastrophically unpopular with the voters that republican leadership would whack him hard if he tried it, though.

Probably too late for that. I talk about guns too much for my coworkers not to assume I'm armed.
