Quick update, the guy I work with who was told not to bother with testing no longer has a constant loud dry cough so there's that at least. Given what we know, I would still rather he was tested but I guess I'm not a doctor.....

Christ you people are really mad at the internet today.

Whether I think China is being hostile is not the point, dude. Take a xanax or five and read my post again. And I've said like five times I think the media is being exceptional. I just happen to actually believe in the principle of free speech regardless of whether I like that speech. Calm down.

Pretty horrifying honestly. Free speech as long as it's speech I like!

See that would actually be really interesting. Not an entirely implausible theory, but I don't necessarily think it's more likely than the obvious answer that the media is just being exceptional in the way they usually are. Especially since this exceptionalism looks exactly like all their past retardations, and China's status as an economic powerhouse is in the absolute shitter right now.

Yeah that's bad though. "Well OTHER people have violated civil rights" isn't really a compelling argument for doing so.

This thread is massive have we had any Kiwis infected?

I haven't heard from just about anyone who's been infected yet. I mean it might just be the calm before the storm, and I could definitely miss this shit, but I can't find so much as a fucker on youtube talking about.

If I catch it I'll fill you guys in, though.

@Otterly, @Judge Holden, and @In Memoriam have all shown symptoms of the infection, I may have missed a few others. @EmuWarsVeteran made an off comment of having a cough but hasnt commented further on whether or not it has evolved into full blown ChinkAIDS.

The world is upside down because of a fucking disease that has less than 2.5% death rate.
This is the best timeline ...
I don't like the idea of going through the gamble of having to deal with the "feeling like I'm breathing out glass shards out of my lungs" for the rest of my life when I get a "mild" infection.

I just want burgers to nuke China; literal nukes are the only way to get back at these bugmen who are intimidating other countries in need by relinquishing medical supplies if they don't suck Xi's pooh dick (who end up being lab rats instead of the promise of being a factory slaves who can "live one more day"). This is whats making me mad the most tbh, why the hell aren't countries rallying to carpet bomb their 10 day built hay stacks. /autistic screeching
Fuck China and I <3 the nation of Israel.

Nah dude, the Spanish flu didn't originate from Spain.

It originated in China.

The myth is that it came with ww1 laborers. No evidence of that. That makes sense since you don't ship out sick people.

It likely came from people just interacting with Chinese people in China.

The version of the virus in China was milder but it gave people immunity. The evolved version in the west was a killer. China got really lucky during the Spanish Flu all things considered.

I got sick at the beginning of the month. No tests other than to rule out the flu. I'm slightly better but still not over it. I take my temperature every morning and night like @Tasty Tatty suggests.

Being an American old enough to remember 9-11 I can definitely say this feeling is far worse. It's not sudden enough to trigger the blinding rage that that one morning in September unleashed in anyone old enough for cognitive thought. But I can definitely sense that feeling starting to rise.

China has mismanaged this crisis from day one. They could have done two things. Dealt with it honestly when it started and mitigated the fallout. And barring that, own up to their fuck up when they failed to mitigate. On both those fronts they failed. Worse they now try to shift the blame to us Americans. And use our own media as patsies for their vile propaganda. As if they assume we are all fucking morons.

I remember the night of 9-11 angrily pacing inside my house. This feeling is very similar. Only it's more a slow burning rage rather then an incandescent fury. China has seriously fucked up and their patsies in the media had better watch out. The consequences for this are going to be far reaching.

I had to stand 6 feet away from the old lady who owns the gas station by my house. She is in her 70s and is using a fucking bandana to protect herself. A fucking bandana. But she can't close her corner store as it's her only income. This is the price of Xi Xinpings pride. A 70+ year old woman running her dead husband's corner store in Virginia fearing for her safety. It is unbelievable and absolutely infuriating.

Kiwis have been self-quarantined since 2010, so no.

I was in DC on 9/11 ... Not that far from the Pentagon. This feeling and dread I have for this pandemic is worse.

I think that's because of the uncertainty around it, and the fact that this affects my loved ones on a personal level as opposed to 9/11 when it affected the whole country and felt like a tragic event that was "bigger" than myself. It was easier to separate my personal life from the impact of 9/11, because it simply didn't affect me on a personal level (however, I am very much aware that 9/11 affected countless people on a personal level).

OK, everyone relax.

Take a few deep breaths. Relax.

Smile at yourself in the mirror.

To steal a line from the Brits: Keep Calm & Carry On.

Joke of the Day: Why don't sharks eat lawyers? Professional courtesy.

Perspective is always helpful, too. Take a look at how our government officials used to handle emergencies. This is a proclamation from the Mayor of San Francisco following the earthquake in 1906. We're knee-deep in some interesting times right now, but things could easily be a whole lot wilder. We've survived a Hell of a lot worse.

Without disrespecting the president's expertise in biochemical pharmacology and his judgement on the effectiveness of drugs on coronaviruses, I kind of like to hear things like this directly from the actual experts now. Otherwise, it sort of feels like propoganda.
The Executive branch saying things like this gives cover to researchers and doctors when one of these experimental treatments kills a bunch of people. Donald Trump isn't making a judgement as far as the efficacy of the treatment is concerned, the president is simply saying that group X is doing this and he is allowing it to go forward in this special circumstance.

It also falls in line with the Trump administration's stance on "right to try", so this is a consistent move.
