What outside event? He was a principal in the company which didn't just go belly up because of the last week or two. If anything there's a good chance he had something to do with it himself. Is he better at his actual work than at filling out much simpler election paperwork? Because he can't seem to fill out a single one of those forms without breaking the law somehow.

Or this could be the perfect opportunity for John to beg for money to get away from his now-violent husband, because abuse-survivor John can suddenly believe Frank's two ex-wives - and have been attacked himself, requiring lots of emotional and financial support (and a big divorce settlement). Sprinkle in 'see, abuse can happen to anyone, even if there's at least a foot's height difference' and maybe some 'brave woman in tech's #metoo moment' and you have a potentially lucrative grift for the next few years. Especially as Frank has always worked more on getting John elected than John has, and without funding that's likely to dry up.

John is smart enough to know he'll never get a paypig as good as Frank and there is no way he can sustain his lifestyle on his own. He gets some speaking gigs occasionally and has articles written about him, but how much money does that bring in? Not enough to buy multiple cars to break over the course of a couple years. His campaign wouldn't have to rely on Frank's connections in California for donations if he had any sort of real pull. It's all show at this point. The veil has been pulled back on how John is a liar and a grifter for people that matter and he's only able to continue his charade because people won't publicly call him out. The emperor has no clothes. Crying abuse might net him some sympathy donations and he'll get alimony from the divorce, but I don't see it sustaining the lifestyle he wants to live. He also needs Frank to execute his ideas if they're even his to begin with. John is the one sitting at home tweeting, popping pills, and playing peggle. I'm under the impression that Frank is the one actually making things happen.

I will take a humble bow for predicting Frank's unemployment a few weeks ago when Wave Life Sciences' stock crashed.

The stock crashed after the company's main drug in development was pulled from clinical trials because it didn't work. That drug was the only one solely owned by WLS; its other projects are all in partnership with established Big Pharma outfits.

Frank's main job -- possibly his only job -- was ensuring patent protection for the new WLS drug. When that drug failed in trials, Frank became redundant because the Big Pharma partners of WLS are fully staffed to perform Frank's job on the remaining research projects.
