Wonder how GM can build respirators on such short notice. Didn't believe they could do much of anything on short notice except raise prices and beg for government bailouts.

I'm wondering about that too. I guess they have the manpower and tools but the lines themselves I dont think are that flexable for something smaller than a vehicle. Something is better than nothing though but i'll bet most of the news outlets are thinking ( and pushing) they'll be rolling them off a line like they do cars.

US organize and pay for the repatriation of Perus citizens in the US. if the US does not comply no aircraft wi be allowed to land.
You know, they make parachutes that open on their own now, I say we fly over and chuck the Peruans out over their homeland.

This is my last post on this forum - and I was in on it early. There isn't a whole lot to say other than Fuck - we blew our chance.

In closing to all those joining this forum thread now, it pays to go back at the start of this thread to see the obviousness of where this was all heading very early on - and to heed the predictions made by many - backed by science and not racism, arrogance or conspiracy.

There will not be a bump on global GDP, there will be a collapse. A recession is a best case scenario and it more likely will be a depression. The hope that governments would act in time is now just hindsight.

This will go on for some time and the world will never be the same after this all has passed in 12-18 months. Economies will change, currencies and the likely introduction of global digital currencies is likely along with immense job losses. Cultures will change.

Many lives will be lost, many will lose their homes, their jobs and their futures. People on this forum will lose people they love and some that they hate. I wish everyone on here the best of luck and can not stress this point enough: It is going to get immensely worse and any planning is better than no planning, but if you are of the mind this will all end and we will get back on track in 6 months, you are in for more than a disappointment.

If you for a moment could envision an advanced civilization, ask yourself who do you think would be in charge? Coal Barrons? Hotel Chain owners? Investment Bankers? Reality TV stars? People that even their own family told you not to vote for?

Or would they be scientists, academics?

What we could be is what we make it so. But not for the next decade, it is lost.

You can give me a thumbs down, a stupid vote or whatever you like, it really is of no consequence now. I have vulnerable family to attend to and there are real issues to get worked out. I'm sure the same could be said for most of you at this time.

Good luck.

Peru's government is refusing to let thousands of Americans to leave, effectively taking them hostage. They are demanding the US facilitate the return of their citizens first. They are also demanding the US organize and pay for the repatriation of Perus citizens in the US. if the US does not comply no aircraft wi be allowed to land.

That seems very unwise. They do realize they're dealing with the world's most powerful military nation with a leader who is best described as somewhat quixotic, right? Also, Trump has checks and balances on his behavior at home but he could send in the troops overseas and have them active for 60 days before he needs a War Powers Resolution even in theory. And Peru's military is not going to be able to fight off the USA for 60 days.

I mean it'll probably be fine because Trump's got a lot other shit to deal with right now. Still, he's not a man to forget some country screwing over the USA or him any time soon.

I've lived probably a few decades more than most posting here and many of you at this point already have heard my cold war stories, a time where also situations cropped up where many people thought the world will end inside of the next few months. The patterns were always the same. Some people went into depression, some became obsessed and dramatized everything, and some played down the dangers in ways that were also unwise. Turns out I'm still here and the world didn't end. The actual thing is that the world always changes and that things never will be the same. That's life. Some changes are shittier than others but this is not the end either.

I called in a couple of major favours, and got my wee girl tested this morning. She seems more or less fine today, but her baby brother sounds chesty and keeps spiking a temp. She was a champ about the nasal swab. Will update with results, hopefully tomorrow.

If I could be confident none of the kids would get any sicker, in a perverse way it would be a relief to test positive, because then I would know they had had it, and AFAIK we don’t currently believe you can get it twice ( @Otterly ?)

correct, as far as we know. ofc we can't test on humans, for reasons.
