Since when does Dr. Acton have the authority to sign stay at home orders? Dewine you damn fool, thats YOUR job.
You expect people to follow this when you are not testing anybody. People think there are only 350 cases because you keep dropping the ball. Nobody is going to listen to this. Get testing in order first dammit, give people a reason to listen! If we really need that stay in place order, nobody will listen because you are not giving us information.
Also, pizza delivery is excempt. What a pathetic order. Food delivery is not essential in a real crisis.
I believe the concept of entire states being told to "shelter in place" is not warranted. Am speaking only for the USA.
Does anyone really believe people on farms, outside urban areas, are going to "shelter in place"? I don't. They'll just go live their lives, go to town as needed. Also believe a certain number of people living in cities/suburbs are doing the same.
From where I sit, and I'm in a "shelter in place" state, the thing is very porous. See plenty of people shopping. Plenty of others on "essential" business. Another poster from England mentioned numbers of people going outside to enjoy early spring sunshine.
President Trump says this situation may last 10 or 12 weeks. No, it cannot. Americans aren't Chinese. Americans will mostly put up with it for two or three weeks but after that the resistance will grow quicker than the government can handle it. Looking at the stats, the numbers in the USA are still dwarfed by the "regular" flu.
Believe what's needed is for someone to look at a map of where the largest number of cases are concentrated. Going to be in cities, but just parts of those cities. Believe locking just those areas down should be as effective as locking down entire states.
Some say, "Oh, you can spread it without symptoms." Isn't that why people are asked to do "social distancing"? Believe someone needs to review the illness and death rates by age group. Far as I know the deaths tend to be those over 60, and/or those with other complicating physical conditions. Children and students 0-25 don't seem to be real affected.
Gonna need to get realistic on this real soon. We'll need to accept a certain level of risk in order to continue on without crumping as a nation. Gotta start using some common sense. We need to stop running scared as a nation, which we have been doing at least since 9-11. Not possible to live with all the bad things held at bay. Not realistic to live in fear of every little fucking thing.
If the Americans of the Great Depression and World War II could see today's America, they would laugh at us. They had to deal with much worse things, also things not of their own making. They dealt with it and kept on going. They didn't believe they had the luxury of "sheltering in place" from the problems out there.
Bottom line on this - isolate the hot spots and let everyone else get back to work/school.
Moving to other parts of the world...if you look at a map you now see the red dots of ChiCom virus sprinkled around Africa and Latin America, not to mention Russia. These dots are going to grow in size and number. In many places all that can be done will be to provide the sick person a bed, food, and water or send them home. We will be able to do little or nothing to help. People will need to help each other.
