Things for non-UK kiwis Boris cut an insane amount of police officers there are less than 100,000 and that is including non front line this is admins etc. For example my city of 150,000 has 30 cops who can arrest etc.

As long as the food supply chains don't falter, it'll be fine for quite a while. However, I have no feel for what goes on in London, so I could be being wildly optimistic here.

Numbers have been falling steadily since at least 2010. He's only been PM for a short while. He was never home secretary. And when he was Mayor of London the numbers were slightly higher when he left than when he started.

Might as well post today's numbers, I guess. 115 new cases, 749 in total, one new death. This is the highest daily growth yet, but the lowest one percentage-wise. I went outside for a while, the streets were swept clean except for a few people walking their dogs. So far we're slowly, gradually fighting this thing to a stalemate. Unless we're missing something huge. I dearly hope not.

My sweet, crusty cynic, I disagree. Most of them are decent.

The bad apples do spoil the bunch. Party leadership is one thing, but the rank and file are mostly okay. And some I assume are terrible people.

Rumors of state wide shelter in place orders have persisted for days. Everyone knows someone whoknows a guy who works for the state and "totally knows its coming man for real this time." People are super angry that anyone went outside to parks or trails this past weekend while the weather was good. They are begging for a shut down, and they want it enforced.

And what do you think about it? Feels eerie, really. Like your government went full 180 degrees in a couple weeks. I wasn't expecting such a brutal lockdown.

I don't think they did do a 180. You can only think that if you believe the simlistic press reports , or deliberate mistatings on this Forum. They never said "Derrrrp, let's do nothing and let millions die, herd immunity will save us" . They said a lot, but it was nuanced technical stuff, not black and white sound bites. They had a staged series of responses, and were guessing the best time to go to each next stage.

And maybe it's worked? People have had a decent amount of time to get used to the situation. Been incrementally changing routines, stocking up , taking the threat seriously, getting used to the new normal . This full lockdown hasn't led to any screeching that I've heard. Of course I can't leave my house to speak to anybody but my family ....

I think that going full lockdown instantly wouldn't have worked any better in the long run.
It's going to be for the historians to work out what everyone obviously should have done.

So, rumor has it that the guy in our town who got it, got it from his daughter who has been sick with a cold for a while except it was Corona. If she got it in school that means a few kids are running around spreading it and nobody knows. The guy himself was working all the time (essential industry) so now the whole factory and god knows who probably has it. Everybody is getting tested. Awesome.

That was me, and I was being a bit facetious. Mind you it did strike me that when you see videos of Chinese stormtroopers disinfecting the air in Wuhan the mist they spray looks like vape fumes. I looked it up though and I think they're probably using dilute bleach given they add what looks a half full five-liter container to a truck full of water. Put in those terms you really have to wonder if this process has been properly thought out.

The Boris video was a weird one to watch, new emergency police powers will also come. He said he will review the situation in three weeks to see if he can relax the restrictions if there is improvement.
