Oh, absolutely. Most people with a story to tell and the creativity to do so are doing stuff like Parahumans or a webcomic. And they're doing pretty well for themselves, all told. It's easier than ever to publish something new. And not only do you not have to adhere to the standards of the Big Two, you also own any rights to the characters you make instead of having a corporation own them instead.

That's why you can't find young talented people in capeshit nowadays, because they're all off doing their own thing and making something interesting. The only people left are cape fanboys who just want to play around with the characters, and the liberal diversity hires. Unfortunately, the comics industry has put their money on the latter.

So with Diamond shutting down indefinitely thanks to Corona Chan we could seriously be looking at the collapse of the direct market/comic book store.

Real interested to see where the Big 2 go from here or if we'll see the death of Western comics as a whole.

The cape fanboys aren't that great either. Consider, for example, Joe Quesada's notorious One More Day where Spiderman gets a retroactive Satanic divorce because Joe wanted him to be single instead of married. You know, like when Joe was a kid. Face it, the comics industry is in a state of natural senescence, and when that happens, it no longer has the strength to fight off opportunistic parasites. Everything dies eventually. SJWs are just a symptom, not the cause.

Am I the only one thinking of X-Statix, where they made a photogenic reality-show team and promptly killed all but one of them in the first issue? That would be a hilarious rug-pull for this ridiculous shit.

That said, I don't think that (((Kibblesmith))) is anywhere close to that self-aware. Assuming this team survives their mini-series, they'll languish in D-list hell until they get demothballed just to get the Redeemer treatment to show how serious the threat is.

As per usual, the current big two can't make teenager heroes. It's either they're shitty cannon fodder or be pandering cringe.
X-teens? Get killed by flavor of the month villain or get ANOTHER shitty writer. The Claremont-tier writing will never come back
Young avengers/justice? Pandering trash that gets at least 2 months until it gets cancelled for ALL NEW bullshit or get sucked into drama events that piss off the audience they pander to or petty twatter drama.
Avengers academy? Who cares and look we shoved them into a shitty edgy battle royale fanfic and killed them off haha!
Legion of superheroes? Well they were already fucked by shitty editorial and writer decisions many times before that it's become their tradition.
I've read and liked the OG new warriors and then some faggot thought making them the main cause of the civil war was a great and edgy idea. Thank god Richard(Nova) was away and is in one of the best capeshit events: Annihilation.

I know that's a joke, but it's actually true. Read Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning's run on Nova (pretty much the entire post-Annihilation series), it's really excellent. They also created the current Guardians of the Galaxy (the one the films are based on, though there's ALOT of difference. The one weakness of their guardians is that they kept trying to use Phyla, Marvel's then only major lesbian character, they kept giving her more and more powers and positions, but it was clear they had no idea of what to do with her, and eventually she was killed by Thanos in a single page.
