Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

Alabama numbers - gonna try to be regular with state updates, daily if it doesn't feel like I'm shitting up the thread with them.

215 confirmed cases (+19 from yesterday's total of 196)

2,321 tests performed (+489 in the past 24 hours, yesterday's test total was 1,832)

0 deaths so far.

Looks like we're getting a positive test rate of <10%, which seems to line up with most other parts of the US. I'll be interested to see what happens to that positive test rate as the Chinese Virus™ continues to pick up steam.

In "not my personal blog" updates -
The stylists have changed up their hours and scheduling so that clients are only being seen one at a time. Nobody hangs out in the waiting area. There are several booths, reasonably well-spaced and enclosed. It's no pressure ward, but that sliding glass door is heavy and makes a nice placebo at least. Haircut girl explained they have a little rotation going: client seen in booth B while booth A is disinfected/sterilized after previous client, and booth C gets a little quality contact time. Cleaning is done with barbicide and basic bitch 70% isopropyl. Good enough for me.

Nobody seemed to mind me showing up with my disposable gloves and alcohol wipes. The girl who typically cuts my hair has a young kid at home, which probably explains why they got relatively serious about cleaning and distancing.

The grocery store was completely cleaned out of Dave's Killer Bread. Not a huge deal since it freezes well and I still have a couple loaves, but I feel like someone's telling me "learn to make your own, jackass." My parents have a fancy bread maker that they never even use 🍞

The $2 Trillion relief package has finally been approved on.

Anyone want to take a bet on what shenanigans are part of this deal?

I bet that the ballot harvesting shit is still in there.

That way, Republicans can do it in very deep red states.

No they don't shrug their shoulders, that's the point. Hopefully our protective measures are passively protecting middle America. :optimistic:

If you can get the cops in NYC to respond to anything, it is a miracle. If you get in a crash, forget about it. They literally do.not.give.a.shit. I saw some dude cross the street and spray vomit out of his mouth at stopped cars, and carry on his stroll like it was no big deal. If some guy is eating a turd in the street there, that sounds like business as usual.
San Francisco was the way you describe NYC when I lived there. When Giuliani and Bloomberg were in charge that rarely happened. Now with Wilhelm von Big Bird it's come back.

I call the precinct instead of 911 (unless its a real emergency) but the police response is good where I live and I get a follow up call the next day.

And people get tested when they think they have it.

This disease spreads via breathing and people aren't quarantined. Of course it's going up.

We will never have an accurate number. People don't go to the doctor unless shit's real and that is the case even in places with socialized medicine.

People go to the doctor to "rule out" their fears.

I was wondering about this: just suppose 50,000 people in NYC needed to go to hospitals within like even a 5 day period. How can ambulance fire and cops all together move that many people?

The army is going to be moving the sickos from apartments into the hospitals. Probably filling trucks with them.

Kazakh update: They're everywhere!
Total infections up to 79. We now have at least 1 case in almost every major district.
Some dudes in Almaty are creating a web series about the quarantine.

eCommerce seems to be at a complete halt in America.
My contact made me some important samples that I need to proceed with a project, shipped via DHL next day.
It has been circulating 4 or 5 states within America, not being sent out at all. It was supposed to arrive a fucking week ago.
My mailing service gave a notification too, saying that likely they won't be able to send out anything indefinitely.

Frustrating and annoying. It wasn't that bad even during the peak in China. My stupid prototypes still came in. People laughed at prospects of China's economy going tits up, I was very un-optimistic back then, it seems even worse now. Don't get me wrong, China did take a tremendous hit. Half of the factories I have direct contact with are pretty much done at this point, bankrupt. They can't fulfil the backlog of orders dating all the way to before CNY, there's limited workers, and those greedy landlords aren't helping with the virus.

Local isn't better either. We ordered several boxes of masks from China, it's being held by customs. Chances are the state is going to rob them from us. Will they give reparations? Because the EvIL CoMMiE ChINKs do give reparations to "seizures during an epidemic" by their law, don't wanna be those evil authoritarians do we? From what I can see, China's "0 new local cases" is bollocks. All the new cases are attributed to "brought in from outside". It's however just a dozen or so. Beijing, Hangzhou, Guangdong, these places have seen about 30 or so new cases that are all attributed to "outsides". In addition to that, some cured patients have turned positive again, which isn't added to the statistic.

Whether you call this fake or not is a matter of definition. According to China's definition of "new cases locally", the numbers aren't fake. However I'm not gonna use their definition.

I think we're most concerned about what's going on in the west. All the numbers I'm seeing are fake, if not faker than China and Japan's.

I'm pretty conflicted at the moment. Businesses are expected to close, but how about their rent? Are they still going to have to pay the rent even though there's zero flow of income, which actually means negative profits? Most local businesses are in the hospitality industry, all the raw food are just going to rot. The capitalism in me thinks it's totally fine, however if I try rationalism, using the Ancap definition of capitalism which is "voluntary transaction of goods", the closure due to the epidemic is entirely involuntary, therefore I don't think landlords should be charging rent at all. Then this goes both ways, because it's not their fault either. This also means since it's their land, they can kick business owners out for not fulfilling the contract, which will damage local businesses. I'd rather not see Chinks/poos buy up more fucking land in my country.

The closures should definitely apply to everyone in order to be fair. No rent paid, no businesses open.

It's not all bad news. As I expected, many fashion brands (yeah call me a faggot for following fashion trends) are now making masks. High end ones like Prada, Gucci and YSL (Yves Saint Laurent, brand under Gucci) are now masking masks too. LVMH Group are going to order 40 million masks from China. A bunch of factories in China are doing the same. I know a guy who runs a clothing factory (his workers are compensated appropriately), they are making masks too.

It's going to be donated to the medical industry, not sold at 1000 euros each... luckily.

Who knew? If governments are going to be useless and castrated, these pro-queer fashion brands might save some people.

Anyone else notice how when a bunch of Republican Senators got quarantined fucking Drunk Bitch Pelosi came sprinting back to DC with a list of demands she cooked up with Donkey Chompers and now Schumer's Lurch looking ass is acting all smug.

Interesting it's only Republican Senators and no Democrats, wouldn't you say?

Because honestly, I wouldn't put it past those unhung traitors in the Decommunist Party to deliberately avoid testing and make sure that shit is spread to the Republicans so they can "take back the Senate" via deliberate infection.

Didn't @xenomorph mention she takes hydroxychloroquine for lupus, normally paying $4 for a month's supply and now she has to pay $80 for the same? Hoarding medications people use to treat serious conditions because you can is not only a dick move it's a crime.

I just re-read your post and it's also not a prophylactic for coronavirus (it treats symptoms, it doesn't prevent infection), these are doctors hoarding huge supplies just in case for themselves, family and friends. That's a crime.
Sure did, it went up to an absurd amount and the hoarders and media bullshittery caused this.

Well once again it time to say the mantra for the newer people who are reading at this point. I do not care what the fuck our governments are doing because they have been with holding information (or just plain lying) due to Ignorance and GREED.

This information has been brought to us by our Kiwi Brothers and since I used to clean up similar types of shit for a living in one of those yellow suits with a breather, this is what I believe in until absolute confirmed evidence to the contrary.

Because for the past 3 months there have been too many lying sacks of shit saying stuff to further their perverse narrative.

So lets continue the Mantra.

The Corona Virus is:

1. This virus can be airborne and can survive hours on end and travel across great distances.
2. This virus can be transferred through vapor droplets up to 6+ feet away.
3. This virus can survive up to 5 days on a very smooth surface and a lot longer on a rough surface.
4. This virus can be transmitted through Urine.
5. This virus can be transmitted though fecal matter.
6. This virus can be transferred via contact. Example. Handshaking, bumping into each other.

This is why the virus is so infectious. This also explains why sudden hot spots begin where there were no usual way of spreading the disease. EXAMPLE: It was reported that the virus was in China's currency. A great way to spread a contagion.

NOTE this is what you are supposed to do during cold/flu
To deal with a virus.

1. Wash your hands with a BAR of Soap. It's cheaper and lasts longer in the long run than liquid soap.
2. Daily wipe down all of your contact surfaces such as door knobs and handles with disinfectant.
3. Separate your clothing. One for outside and one for inside. Place in different hampers and disinfect daily -or- wash daily. Have a designated area for your outside clothing and shoes. Disinfect your shoes.
4. Shower Daily.
5. Change your bedding weekly.
6. Cotton or throw away rubber gloves are to be used.
7. TAKE VITAMINS!.
8. Drink plenty of liquids
9. Eat right and eat at home. Which means that the fast food joint is not your friend.
10. AVOID large crowds.

If you have the virus/illness. To make things easier on your life...

A mild case you should.

1. Tamaflu or some variation of it.
2. Stay warm.
3. Hepa filter air cleaner where you are bed ridden.
4. Shower daily.
5. Some sort of expectorant
6. Take your vitamins
7. Drink plenty of fluids.
8. REST.
9. Stay indoors
10. Change your bedding daily if possible.
11. Wash your hands.
12. Wipe down areas with disinfectant where you grab on to something.

What you are trying to do is to remove/reduce as much of the virus that is on you/around your person. Rest and eating right will help you recover quickly than not and of course contact your doctor for instruction.

This should help regardless because you know we are still in cold & flu season. Just the suggestions I use to avoid getting real sick during cold/flu season. Seems to work for me. It should work for you.

I mean, we're all aware that China informed the US government about the coronavirus on January 3, and continued to keep everyone updated as knowledge developed.

Really? Because you didn’t seem to be aware at all on January 3rd. Let’s see January 3rd’s post history: Denial of the moon landings, complaining about Trump, complaining about being topic banned from the Iran crisis thread, complaining about Trump. Very nice.
Oh how vigilant you and China were for warning the world about the kung flu. How admirable.

It seems you didn’t want to care about China Virus at all until the virus thread was up on Jan 26th, first post of which was.. you dick sucking China. Very cool.
Trump banned travel to China on the 31st and told 3M to start increasing production before even the farms had a thread on the virus.

I hope you are at least getting paid for this spin-doctoring.

Found out about the stimulus package a moment ago. Did the stimulus package back in the last depression come in the form of loans?

Outside China:

USA ( from infection2020.com )

54905 confirmed / 783 dead / 348 Recovered

43977 / 560 / 297 yesterday from infection2020

43901 / 517 / unk yesterday from John Hopkins
I'm still amazed at the low death rate here. My EMT friend basically said that the US is pretty much the only country that took that anti-smoking stuff to heart and its why so few people are dying here. It might legitimately turn out to be a nothingburger here, as long as we CF an close that ventilator gap. You would think this country would be on fire by now

I just hope no one else decides that fish medicine is a good alternative because chloroquine phosphate kinda sounds the same.

It literally IS the same (as chloroquine, assuming that's what you meant).

Chloroquine phosphate is the salt form, which is water soluble, which may matter with some drugs. The "phosphate" moiety, which importantly for our purposes isn't poisonous, has a weight of its own so in theory you would need a little more of it than the base. The type of salt is determined for solubility reasons, mostly influenced by pH and the presence of whatever ions are already in your gut. Chloroquine is also sold in HCl and sulfate salts, apparently.

First of all, FUCK THE GERMAN INTERNET. This is getting ridiculous.

After France, it's now Italy sending over patients. Apparently, eight infected.

Latest Death in Germany was a 42 year old man, no info if he had a pre-existing condition yet. I wonder if they count smoking as a pre-existing condition. I haven't seen any info about whether dead patients were smokers or not. Weird, considering how often they talked about it in the beginning.
Current measures may be in place for longer than originally estimated. Police is patrolling via helicopter now. And the Robert Koch Institute recommends testing basically every German citizen for Corona.

Food supply (vegetables) may be in trouble come May (scary) so the government plans to implement an Eleven-Points-Plan to help farmers and the food industry. And the first German city passed a decree against bulk buying. Stores are only allowed to sell common household quantities. I'm sure other cities will follow.

German press doesn't believe that China has only "imported" cases now. Their tone was very sarcastic.

You know wanted to chime in about the boomer shit being talked about. When it comes down to it where did we even get that perception from? The fucking media and sure they took a while to show their true colors, but over time they’ve just stopped even trying to have any integrity.

Maybe it happened sooner than I think, but even my mom (doesn’t follow politics and is smart enough to know she shouldn’t comment on something she doesn’t know about alsogenerally touchy with people) was bitching about how the news coverage she’s seen has been unamerican bullshit for the most part. She was just like “I know enough to know that a president can’t be a dictator what does the media fucking expect?!”

Optimistic I know, but I really hope lots of news outlets die off or at least become irrelevant. It is just like y’all already have the fucking CIA planting stories, causing panic over shit people shouldn’t panic about, and if any MSM gets something right well a broken clock and all. People like to bitch we’re living in a post truth world - we have been. I recall from a young age realizing an article was complete bullshit. After that I’ve been like “I’ll check the actual sources because this seems like milk”

I will saythis though - the south seems to be doing better, community wise, than most regions. Also, the fact that we don’t have cities that touch the size of the coastal shitholes while having some amazing hospitals gives me hope.

I had to help prepare the tier 1 hospital instructions for employees years ago. They’re fucking ready for anything tbh. The one I helped has 10x the amount of beds in storage and will basically shutdown the hospital to visitors and turn any waiting areas into “rooms”, they will take over parts of the hospital that aren’t going to be deemed “essential” during an an emergency.

Who fucking needs to see an ENT doc when that area could turn into 30-40+ beds. They’re not at that point yet, but I know that every employee knows when things worsen this is the game plan. My biggest shock is that it only seems like a few hospitals even have the planning/ability to do this. Hopefully I’m wrong, but it sure as shit doesn’t seem like NY has this setup or even close.

So, that was just one in a city that isn’t even 1/4th the size of NY and it doesn’t seem like they have this same model which I guess over crowding can cause issues when it comes to real estate. Hell, I helped another hospitals plan in 08,09 iirc and they were not in a super populated. They are not a tier 1, but they have plenty of extra beds and a similar plan. It isn’t that hard to store beds that you wouldn’t use during normal operations (minor issue) and stockpile them for emergencies.
