Could be worse, here is the land of OZ weve got people sharing facebook posts saying how much they wish Ardern was our PM.
You should see the 'science communicator' that the New Zealand government is touting as an expert on this.

Sorry web archive is down.

Can some medical person, or anybody, please enlighten, as to how this will work, and for what purpose?

Here we have a military ship, supposedly coming to the rescue in a time of crisis, that does not take COVID, Labor and Delivery, postpartum or anything pediatric.

Instead they are there to house people who need "ongoing hospital treatment." And incoming people will be screened for COVID.

Given the scarcity of tests, how do they intend to screen against COVID?

And what kind of people, except for those who are moribund, or soon to be, are lingering about, on a hospital bed? So it mainly serves to protect the dying, from the inevitable?

So what purpose does this serve?

Basically the ship does nothing for children who catch it and need an ICU. It does nothing to quarantine medically fragile newborns who occupy the NICU. This crew who is supposedly highly trained for combat fatalities is serving what purpose?

I am deeply disappointed.
It keeps people who need to go to the hospital for non-COVID reasons from needing to go to a hospital crawling with it. Is it really that difficult a concept?

Blacks are higher up on the oppression scale.

I'm surprised the Dems didn't even try to add reparations to the money payouts. Sure they tried to get diversity hires and quotas through but no "blacks get an additional 500".

Shame.

At least we'll have a month of retarded lolcows wasting all of their money and complaining.

I honestly believe that, after all this is over, a lot of people like this will get the rope. Some, not metaphorically.

China too.

Very cool. Very corporate.
Nurses at Kaiser Permanente hospitals and clinics in California could be fired immediately for wearing their own face masks, according to unions representing nurses at the facilities. The news comes after nurses were ordered to reuse disposable protective gear to save supplies in the face of shortages brought on by the coronavirus pandemic.

The California Nurses Association and National Nurses United sent a flyer to members noting that Kaiser had threatened nurses with firing if they wear their own N95 masks, which offer a high level of protection from airborne contaminants, to work. “Kaiser has told nurses that if they’re seen wearing their personal N95 masks, they could be fired ‘on the spot’ for insubordination,” the flyer read. The unions did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Oh, well, Australia's most vocal harpy who's on the payroll of NineNews is this cunt :

Socialist. Wants political enemies to die. Says Australia could "eclipse Italy".* Thinks its none of her business that people are out of work, will be evicted, could be domestically abused or commit suicide. Her computer program says otherwise. All whilst she takes hefty $ from Nine.
Also #abolishcapitalism.

*3045 cases in Australia. 9 on ventilators. 13 dead. About to hit curve, but businesses should shut and go out of business, who cares. People should lose jobs. Who cares, she has her fear money from Nine.

Hilarious to see the attempts at saying the US federal government dropped the ball here, even though it closed air traffic to China weeks before anyone else did, and everyone was trying the #HugAChinese shit at the time instead to score virtue points. As if these people wouldn't freak out if Trump put LA and New York into lockdown and declared martial law in February.

Any piece of shit that tries to argue for open borders after this debacle should be called out for being a danger to the nation and the people in it.

Small update from the land of beer and brats, employee owned grocery chain has installed plexiglass at it's registers

Another person at my job is out with severe flu like symptoms and a bad cough but they wont test him for wuflu. My job is "essential" so still have to interact with truckers coming through the worst parts of the tri state on the reg but weirdly no hazard pay (:_(

Everybody I work with laughed at me two weeks ago when I said shit was about to get real weird real fast.....now who's laughi...coof coof.

Ah no wonder the old lady downstairs from me is having a panic attack, shes watching tv all the time. It explains why so many people are panic buying if TV is telling them they'll all be dead in a few weeks.

Interestingly, what people predicted has come true.

Australians are purchasing more alcohol than EVER as they self-isolate (and Corona and condom sales have skyrocketed in every state)
  • Jimmy Brings is an Australian alcohol deliverer that is working around COVID-19
  • They have noticed some key changes in the way people are ordering alcohol
  • On the east coast of Australia beer sales have increased by as much as 32%
  • Whereas Perth and Adelaide have ordered 23% more beer in the last two weeks
  • Largest transaction one person made in one go was $3,626; the average is $60

Lol. Looks like a gender studies professor. Are Siouxsie's pronouns they/them?

It keeps people who need to go to the hospital for non-COVID reasons from needing to go to a hospital crawling with it. Is it really that difficult a concept?

No, sadly that concept is too hard to grasp.

They aren't taking walk-ins. And they are turning away people with signs of COVID. But one person who is positive and asymptomatic, can turn the thing into a plague ship.

I actually listened to the press conference. Unless the military has some top secret decontamination methods that local hospitals are forbidden to use, people on board will also be screwed, given that they are on a ship.

Anyway, whatever. It is nice that they are freeing up 1000 hospital beds. As for the cardiologist who would normally be doing emergency heart surgery, I suppose he will be free to focus on COVID, too.

I have no idea how this works. May the chips fall where they may.

Speaking on the hospital ships, I always wondered why the United States didn't repurpose some of the decommissioned aircraft carrier hulls as medical ships. I used to talk to a group of WWII vets and they were the ones who originally planted the idea in my head. It seems kind of logical, if a bit expensive. But we already have these huge hulls laying around, packed with technology, a landing strip, and fucking nuclear reactors... not to mention they already have sizable hospital suites installed by default.

Maybe you don't retrofit all of them, but you could definitely make a couple more floating hospitals to send around to help out domestically or even internationally. The Nimitz class carriers that are being phased out for the Ford class carriers actually have more beds as it is.

Also a fun aside because this dude was badass. I used to get breakfast with the old timers down at the local diner on Saturday mornings. The one guy, a nice fellow named Lloyd, was an honest to God paramarine. That dude saw some shit. Have not seen him in a few years, though there is a slim chance he may still be alive. But even at the age of 92 when I last saw him, the man still walked without a cane and was as sharp as a tack. I taught him how to use a digital video camera and the guy recorded his photo albums and gave commentary. He never stopped learning and becoming better. Dunno what they put in the water during his training but it must have been the good stuff.

The problem is the hulls and the reactors have a life span. After which the maintenance costs just soar. To date we have only decommissioned 1 nuclear carrier. The first nuclear Enterprise. They are still figuring out how to actually safely take it apart and dispose of it. It was only scrapped because it had a really crude reactor setup. 8 Small reactors from nuclear subs. As for the older oilers, they actually did put some of them to pretty good use. The old WW2 Independence Class Light Carriers were converted to the first gen Marine Assault ships. Which were designed to convert to hospitals once the Marines deploy.

Right now the Pentagon is taking bids and looking for ideas to replace the Hospital ships. They want to go to 5-6 smaller ships. As for floating hospitals, the Carriers also function as that. The Hospital on board the USS Ford is almost as big as the Mercy or Comfort. The Carriers function as fleet hospitals so shipboard medical emergencies get shuttled to them. If need be the Navy could open up several thousand more beds from parking the carriers and Marine Flattops in port. But they are keeping that option quite... because it's stupid.

One of my local stores is more or less back to normal, bleach back in stock. No hand sanitizer, I understand though. It’s gonna be out for a while.

Though when I went to look at the toilet paper, this is what I found.

Yikes.

I'm not surprised. Everyone always buys extra at GO. At least more people will get rolls instead of massive panic buyers. The interesting thing is there was no limit buying before this. They brought it in during the outbreak.
