Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

You should see the 'science communicator' that the New Zealand government is touting as an expert on this.
Dr Siouxsie Wiles

'Siouxsie Wiles' is a morbidly obese "blogger, podcaster, artist, curator and media science commentator". This used to be a serious country, a long time ago.

Small update from the land of beer and brats, employee owned grocery chain has installed plexiglass at it's registers

Another person at my job is out with severe flu like symptoms and a bad cough but they wont test him for wuflu. My job is "essential" so still have to interact with truckers coming through the worst parts of the tri state on the reg but weirdly no hazard pay (:_(

Everybody I work with laughed at me two weeks ago when I said shit was about to get real weird real fast.....now who's laughi...coof coof.

Ah no wonder the old lady downstairs from me is having a panic attack, shes watching tv all the time. It explains why so many people are panic buying if TV is telling them they'll all be dead in a few weeks.

Interestingly, what people predicted has come true.

Australians are purchasing more alcohol than EVER as they self-isolate (and Corona and condom sales have skyrocketed in every state)
  • Jimmy Brings is an Australian alcohol deliverer that is working around COVID-19
  • They have noticed some key changes in the way people are ordering alcohol
  • On the east coast of Australia beer sales have increased by as much as 32%
  • Whereas Perth and Adelaide have ordered 23% more beer in the last two weeks
  • Largest transaction one person made in one go was $3,626; the average is $60

So in the press conference for the UK today in US time, they think the lockdowns are going to last, the scientist said "realistically" 6 months. My boss is pissed (IT) as we can work from home but we are still limited and the security risks for data is massive too.

I am still playing Chaotic in this, is it worth it to save some old biddies but destroy your entire infrastructure (we are government related but not deemed as essential) Tank your economy but also where you stand in the world just after you left the EU too.

How much, if anything, are people being charged for this stuff, if yu don't mind my asking? Is there still the option of "regular" food delivery for NYC residents, or delivery from grocery stores?
It's free but you get what you pay for. Jira rice, whatever the fuck that is, is all I got.

You can order from stores; Amazon, Fresh Direct, Target, Fairway, C-town they all deliver, the problem is everyone is ordering and not enough people available who do the actual delivery. And many items are just not available. For instance, bacon or pancetta was unavailable to order online/over the phone.

Alabama update: the state WuFlu info page got reconfigured today, and numbers are no longer listed in the "twice daily updated table" format.

We're using one of those fancy ArcGIS real time dashboards now.

As of this writing, we sit at:

531 confirmed cases (+144)

4,082 tests processed (
+1,270)

...and 1 death. (
+0)

Jefferson county seems firmly in place as the first major hub of infection, with 169 confirmed cases. The next largest number of cases is Shelby county with 53.

In other burger news, it looks like that big group of college students stuck in Peru is back on 'murican clay.

This is a reasonable question.

If serious quarantines are not put in place, the elderly will die anyway.

People in this thread are talking about masks, about respirators.

Yes, these things are important.

But, as long as useless cunts like New Zealand's PM Jacinda Ardern are busy fluffing themselves about "self-quarantine" and "distancing" while avoiding the duty that they owe to actually quarantine people who carry the virus, it will continue to spread.

It only got here because Ardern refused to stop coronavirus carriers coming in.

The saying "shit or get off the pot" comes to mind. Either quarantine carriers, or just admit that you will let the elderly die, perhaps on a slightly slower schedule than doing absolutely nothing at all.

If these governments actually care about preventing our grandparents from dying, coronavirus carriers should not be wandering around freely. Either they should be in specialized holding areas (things have grown beyond this level almost everywhere) or they should have their movements restricted in some other way.

Any government which isn't searching AliExpress for "magnetically activated door alarm cellular" isn't serious about containing the coronavirus. And if they don't care about halting the spread, they should stop pretending to care about those it will kill- because they do not care and they have already made sure that they will be responsible for those deaths.

It's not a choice between "elderly people die" and "economy dies". It should be entirely possible to preserve both against major damage, if you're not completely worthless like all of our "leaders".

One of my local stores is more or less back to normal, bleach back in stock. No hand sanitizer, I understand though. It’s gonna be out for a while.

Though when I went to look at the toilet paper, this is what I found.

Yikes.
Not sure if this is the funniest timeline or the worst timeline. Are we living in a dark comedy with lots of drama thrown in?

Ireland announced 10 new deaths, bringing the total to 19. They're starting to publish slightly more detailed info- the median age of death is 79 and 13 of the 19 were male.

There's some good news- the number of small apartments available to rent in Dublin city centre has increased by about two thirds as a lot of the people illegally renting them to tourists on AirBnb are being fucked by the travel restrictions. Short term lets of entire houses or flats in the rent pressure zone (basically all of Dublin) require planning permission due to the housing crisis and record levels of homeless people. Only a few dozen people applied for the permission, and as far as I know none were granted. But now that there are no tourists suddenly all these homes are available for people who actually live in the city 🤔

Professor Pike's (The man at Imperial College, London) released a new report in which we've gone from 500,000. 250,000. 20,000 to, uh, 5700. Probably.

No modelling done, just a new paper going "social distancing and lockdown works!"

Reading further into the article. Derbyshire Police have decided to use their drone unit to harass people doing their daily exercise of jogging, walking dogs or cycling.

:story: Yeah. That genie is never getting back in the bottle.
This is not about a stupid virus at all.
Climate change? Oh, you're on lock down until ___ target is met. BTW we'll cut off your power for a bit to reduce load.
Socially disagree with this? Lockdown!
Oh, you're worried about your jobs? Your job isn't essential, you just earned yourself a lockdown!

Perhaps if this is what you anticipate, you should organize to prevent this from happening?

There's never been a better time.

EDIT: The 'Anti-Defamation League', formed to protect murderous pedophile Leo Frank, is requesting money from the coronavirus coffers to fund their continuing activities. They only have tens of millions of dollars in their coffers. Won't you please, please think of the starving ADL employees (who continue to deny their role in the Holodomor and the Armenian genocide)?

I feel like, after reading back some pages, I really need to strongly stress to you all that it is not just the elderly dying. We have cases in my freezer from 22-90 years old. The nursing homes are a pit of contagion in the best of times, so yes the numbers are skewed because of them.

But the community infections are killing people at every age. We had a gym trainer on our table today. 31. Fitter than most. No underlying conditions. If you go on the vent, if you need the vent you are not likely to walk out. A lot of people need the vent.

This isn't going to kill off the boomers, and leave the rest alone. We are all open to this.
