Chennai, Mar 29: A young man under home quarantine for coronavirus after return from Sri Lanka suddenly ran out of his house and fatally bit a 80-year old woman in his neighbourhood in a village near here, police said on Saturday.

The woman with injuries in her neck was hospitalised late Friday after the incident but died on Saturday without responding to treatment, they said.

The man, a resident of Jakkamanayakanpatti and engaged in seasonal business in clothing, was overpowered and handed over to police, who arrested him and investigations were on.

He had recently returned from Sri Lanka and directed to remain under quarantine by health authorities as per the protocol for foreign returnees to check coronavirus spread.

He came out of his house on Friday evening and all of a sudden, denuded himself and began running through the street.

Shocked family members including his father gave a chase even as he caught hold of Nachiyammal, seated on her house's front yard and bit hard her neck.

The man's kin overpowered him and admitted the woman to nearby Bodi Government Hospital where doctors on Saturday said she succumbed to her injuries, not responding to treatment. Health authorities were unavailable for comments immediately.

I noticed something when I looked at the map of cases in the United States. More of the Midwest and Eastern states are completely covered up. Amazingly, the western spots are also hit but not as covered. California has a lot of cases too of course. But from videos I've seen, photos and things I've seen- more people are taking the social distancing seriously and California cities basically look like ghost towns and there are less cars on the streets.
Los Angeles and San Francisco still have it bad, but it's interesting.
I do know that more numbers will pop up and things will change. But I'm glad that people in California are actually following the rules in the cities. I'm also seeing a lot more people in masks at stores.

These places have the highest population density and have immigrants from cultures that like to be around other people... and touch faces (Italian, Chinese, African, Latin, etc). Makes sense.

Around 100 people are admitted to the ICU every day. There is somewhat of a delay when it comes to reporting the deaths.
They're still saying that the measures we currently have in place are making sure hospitalizations and deaths don't rise too quickly. I'm sure that these measures help somewhat but things are going to shit elsewhere in Europe, and the other countries have way stricter measures than the Netherlands does.

One thing that's occurred to me about the US reporting, is that obesity is so common over there that they literally can't see it, and think they're OK. Or at the worst 'carrying a few extra pounds' . Because they are right in the middle of the distribution of people they know.
When they're really about 40 pounds overweight. Even quite young guys in their 20s have this kind of chubby chunky look that they think is all muscle. But it's not.
Just because you don't need the scooters at Walmart doesn't mean you're a sensible weight.
So the reporting, and quotes from family say "perfect health", instead of "OK health (for a fat fucker)"

Et voila. Over here with the anti-obesity movement, ease of access to mediterranean diet and promotion of natural parks we have to some degree diminished obesity. I was once morbidly obese, have gotte better since though my weight is far from perfect, but I've never known anyone as fat as I got, and I am loosing weight at least semi-reliably. The gyms I've gone to have all been filled with fat people loosing weight despite not being morbidly obese. Meanwhile in "health at every size" land the majority of the population isn't just a bit overweight but medically so, and the fucking feminists make movements in favor of obesity. And oh god the TV dinners/ premade dinners. I know those well from my first year as a student and I've seen the american equivalent. Ours are like half the size and a third of the caloric intake by comparison. One american TV dinner would be enough to feed a person here a whole damned day, and we're far from healthy compared with northern europe. Weight is a real issue and corona will prove it.
