Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

Also consider you're probably psyching yourself up into having something right now. If you were careful at the stores and aren't usually a party animal or something, you won't have this.

This. A week ago I thought I was gonna dance with corona-chan. Turned out it was just a pre-game for a massive arthritis flare. I almost wish it was Corona. Shits taken out both my knees, my right foot and my dominant hand. And thanks to Corona the primary treatment for it is immune suppressants. So that's right out the window given current circumstances. The secondary treatment? Hydroxychloroquine. Which has been sequestered completely ALSO due to current circumstances.

For everyone freaking out about this, please remember that for the vast majority of people, this virus runs it's course like a common flu and you end up being just as fine afterwards. Lots of people don't even have any symptoms and basically every specialist on the matter says right now that there's likely a huge number of unknown cases that'll likely always stay unknown because it bothered them so little and passed with as little as a sniffle if anything. It's very easy to think this is captain trips from the media and the death numbers, and it is serious and bad but even if you catch it, you're very, very, very likely to survive. There are a lot more dangerous things you are also likely to catch. You're mostly afraid of the unknown right now and that's understandable, but remember that this shall pass. Also don't listen to the doomers either that tell you that having the clothing store down the street closed for a week or three is basically the end of civilized society. I remember "experts" over here in germany speaking about apocalyptic recession numbers in the double digits, now they're down to a bit lower than the global recession at the end of the 00s. A lot of people with power and money are also taking advantage of the fear right now for their own purposes to reshuffle the deck. Never forget that.
This is the current statistic right now in South Korea (where most tests are done per capita)

Anyone over 70: 11%+ Chance of death

Anyone over 60: 5%+ chance of death

Anyone over 50: 3-4% chance of death

Everyone below 50: 0.1% chance of death

Just remember that yeah, you may get a corona, but around your parents and grandparents, remember never to touch any shit because there is a high chance they will die. Or have them stay in their room for 5 month and avoid this as much as possible.

Ever try taking Moringa Oleifera for arthritis? I take two 700mg capsules of it every morning and it's been a huge help.

Still pretty new to it. Tbh I am a bit of a medical mystery atm. They think it's related to the ulcerative colitis I developed after a year of MREs in Iraq. But not sure. I did apparently set a hospital record for highest concentration of inflammation cells ever tapped from a joint though. A rather dubious distinction. They've even brought students in to observe. That is when you know you are fucked. You're case is "interesting".

Husband did a trip to the grocery store today to grab a few things. He said that the grocery store was only allowing a certain amount of people in at a time in order to effectively practice social distancing inside. My husband was in line outside (in a very spaced out line, btw) for five minutes, and he told me that everyone around him was wearing all types of masks and gloves. People in our immediate area are taking this pretty seriously, which made me feel a lot better about him venturing out.

He told me the store was pretty well stocked. We're well stocked in our foreseeable future so we probably won't need to go out for at least another month.

I also feel fortunate that my immediate family is taking this all very seriously, too. I've heard so many stories about people's parents just throwing caution to the wind. A friend of mine's parents are currently house hunting like it's nothing; they're crossing state lines while doing so too. I'm so, so thankful that my parents aren't that stupid.

Personally I believe you. But at this stage in the game, what is most relevant to our collective process of moving forward, is focusing on who it KILLS, who it DOES NOT KILL, and who it sort of kills.

And with that, how can we balance the need to keep countries economically stable and the workforce alive and healthy, and the need to quarantine?

If the condition interferes with the involuntary breathing reflexes in some, that is a nice tidbit of information, but for now, just count them among the dead.

I believe you that this virus can cause long term damage. But the data is not in on any of this stuff.
This is like reading the possible side effects of OTC meds and automatically assuming everyone will suffer all of them every time they take a pill. The ponyfag doesn't understand that these are potential symptoms, most shared with any viral infection that gets a foothold and isn't treated. Because he's a fucking idiot, he thinks everyone who gets this will suffer all of these things and die.

Caristico (aka Mistico/Sin Cara/Myzteziz) and Kemonito bring us tips to not get coofed.

I agree. HIPAA is very serious business in the US. If you so much as look up at a monitor at a nursing station because you were bored, the staff at most hospitals will shoo you away. "Oh no, you can't look at that! That has other patients' private health info!"

I'm not surprised there's no footage coming out of US hospitals.
yeah, could you imagine what would be unleashed if people took photos or video in hospitals to spread some false narrative?

In retail land, our shelves are almost back to normal, especially shelf stable food, which we have tons and tons of, more than can fit on the shelves.

I work a little over an hour outside of NYC and we're hit pretty hard here too, so I think most people decided to pack it in and stay home for a little bit. The empty roads are a bit spooky.

Toilet paper and Lysol still sell out pretty quickly, but we receive them every day so there doesn't seem to be any issue with supply. The one thing we never get is hand sanitizer, apparently there is FDA red tape slowing production down, which is why it's so hard to come by everywhere.

I am wondering if more drastic measures are coming soon, this is definitely an area of the country where lockdowns are probably not lifting anytime soon. I knew it would be like that here because of NYC, but it's still scary to see the numbers.

I know 1 person who tested positive and 3 who most likely had/have it. The one who tested positive was almost asymptomatic and only got tested because of close contact with a positive case, the rest all got pretty sick but not sick enough to need a hospital and it sounds like they have been through the worst and are recovering now. These are all people in their 20s and 30s.

Okay, but... how do you take phones away from millennials who are sick and have nothing to do in bed but check Instagram and IM their friends? Hospital selfies are pretty normal.

Already the police are stupidly saying they will not be arresting people short of murders being done. They are too busy out shaming people going for a walk. They are even policing shops that are selling fucking Easter Eggs because, well, Easter Eggs, you got a loisence for that (they aren't essential you see). So you can be robbed and they won't attend at the best of times, and now they have the perfect excuse while they are out policing what corner shops sell. Just when you think your opinion of the police can't get any lower.

So it's virtually the Middle East now?

I wish the press would stop bitching over Trump not issuing national stay at home orders. It's already constitutionally questionable if the State Governors have this power but the US President flat out does NOT. There isnt even statutory authority let alone constitutional. At a minimum he could order hard state borders but that is a big if. The states in question would have to consent first.

When it comes to corona response the Federal government can help, but any hard decisions have to be done by the States. We are a federal system.

After most of the storm is passed I'll wonder if there will be any political and economic Chinese blacklash.
Will the media hold WHO responsible for going "It's fine... it's fine.... then oh shit dawg it ain't fine"
Will Trump mentioning the Malaria medication being a game changer be memory holed?
How many things will Trump be criticized for not doing, when he didn't even have the power to do it, or it was under Governor control?

Yeah, screw that. Watch services from home. It sucks for the older people because for alot of them church services is all the have but its a deathtrap now.
are people still coming to church? I know almost no one who is religious, and i do know our nazi friends are freaking out over jews still going to synagogue regardless of quarantine. but are religious people still showing up every sunday?

I know Easter is the big holiday, but i feel like people will get a pass this year.

Also how come Italy and Spain got fistfucked with this compared to everyone else? a 10% kill rate is pretty amazing, France, Germany, and the US have around a 1% kill rate, thats small enough not to need a quarantine

No
No
Yes
He will be criticized for everything he did, everything he didn't do and everything in between.

I think Trump is playing the long game. For now we still need china thanks to our corporations literally selling us out to them. But the repercussions for this are going to be big once the dust has settled. I bet part of the screaming match between Trump and GM is over GM products being made in China. This is a war and American companies need to start divesting in China production. It cant be done all at once but it will be.

As for the media, the recent shenanigans have laid bare some major issues. I think quite a few publications are now shown to be on the wrong side of the foreign agents registration act. Round one will be the expelling of chinese journalists in US companies. Round two if there is a round two will have to be an FBI counter-intelligence purge of US persons failing to register as foreign agents. Dont know if it will come to that, but the money is easy to follow. As are the copy and paste articles translated directly from CCP propaganda mouth pieces.

Try taking an ice-cold bath.

Some fruits and vegetables have anti-inflammatory properties.
