Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

This really is another 9/11-scale event.

At least 9/11 was over quicker and didn't result in this insane level of shutdown and "social distancing." This seems endless.

COVID is "worse." For the "West" that is. Just my opinion. Take it for what it is.

The reason for why I think it is "worse" is that the long term impact on the economy is going to take years to recover from.

When 911 happened, it was horrific. But after couple of days, the rest of America was back to work. There wasn't this massive cull of "Non-essential" services, like we are seeing now. Yes we grieved like hell But the enemy was visible.

A huge portion of the American workforce, in fact, works for "non-essential" services. As somebody explained it to me, 3rd world countries deal in raw materials. 1st world countries have a service-based economy. And then there are places like China, that mainly export labor, in the form of manufactured goods.

911 had a huge impact on our personal freedoms, and liberalized a lot of presidential powers, but I can't get into it. That sucked but at least your kids could go to the park, and you kept your job.

What we did not have, is streets looking like ghost towns while a few stragglers meander about with respirator masks on. Indefinitely.

I could go on and on, but I think that I have made my point.

I could go on and on, but I think that I have made my point.

Another difference was that the US could go after the Taliban and NATO actually invoked Article 5 and sent AWACS crews (Archive). With COVID you've got the idiotic, treacherous media saying 'don't wear a mask, don't be racist against Chinese people, stay in your home for months and wash your hands every two hours, don't worry that the economy is going to tank and you're going to lose your job, don't go outside otherwise, we'll incite people to yell at you or worse and demand the police arrest you and when the police do start arresting people we'll run articles saying you're living in a fascist state'. Now you can question the US response to 9/11 and much of it was counterproductive. Still zapping some feral Afghanis cheered people up. Telling everyone to live off shelf-stabilized food and not leave their homes for months is just depressing.

I see people around here wearing gloves as well as masks. I still think people are overreacting -- which also includes to skepticism towards the level of threat coronavirus poses.

But overreacting or not, there was the post-9/11 world, and now in the seemingly endless Current Year, there's the post-corona world. I think I'd like to go back to the pre-9/11 world.

On news I forgot last round, the age of the oldest person to recover from wuflu in madrid is now 101yo, and we got some extreme cases recovering after being on ventilators finally. So hope increases.

On the less happy news, another hospital is reaching well past its max capacity and had to publicly denounce the situation before the directives finally had to be told to stop being fucktards and start shipping people to less overwhelmed hospitals. I swear every local collapse we've had has been caused by extreme mismanagement.

Completely OT, but were they actually obese or just had a yuuge BMI? I know a vertically challenged Green Beret that is technically obese, but has no body fat.

Can't find the photos now but I remember a lot of them had some yuuge beer bellies, it was kinda funny actually. But maybe they were just overweight but BMI fucked them.

Etither way since the Legión is meant to represent Spain on a ceremonial capacity I much rather have this buncha stereotypical Macho Men straight out of the Village People, if only to compare them to the britbong equivalent lol.

Then again with those uniforms and a goat for a mascot (yes their mascot is a goat) we'll be making jokes no matter what.

Edit: on this pre-workout routine implementation you can see not the obese ones but the other side, namely the guys looking like they havent lifted in their lives. And also the goat. I think we can all agree the workout was a good idea.

It seems like we'd be better off trying to mass manufacture masks to reduce the infection rate than trying to mass-produce ventilators to try to know 10-20% off the death rate in the most serious cases.

We're already doing both as they're far from mutually exclusive.

So Let me start morning news roundup by calling out the NYT for being chink fucking spies.

The NYT has historically taking anti-spain side for every fucking issue ever, except when they wanted to use us against Trump when he sanctioned us, even though even we say Trump was right on doing so. (Our idiots in charge were seriously trying to launch a tradewar against the USA. No I have no idea why the fuck they ever thought that could possibly end well. It started with Rajoi and I've already talked how exceptional and evil that idiot was it could be literally anything. Point is. Yeah. Trump was right in telling Spain to shove it. So of course that's the one fucking thing the NYT claims we were just victims of muh eeeevil orange man bad. Fucking chinks.

Point is. The NYT has decided to make an article calling our healthcare personnel "kamikazes", claiming "there is no similarity between the IFEMA hospital and a real hospital" and claiming that our doctors are literally taking turns of over 24 hours. I can't link it because I don't have an account and won't make one but I've been told of it.

So let me be fucking clear here. The NYT are just chink agents trying to make their bugmen overlords look nice by shitting on everyone else. The IFEMA campaign hospital is built up to fucking specifications, our healthcare personal is indeed fighting the vitus 24/7, collectively, but if you check under the garbage bags you'll see it's not the same doctor all 24 hours, no shit sherlock. We've had inspectors do some stupid bullshit, but here in spain we have this wonderful thing called unions designed to be a pain in the ass of those fucktards. I know this is a concept foreign to you authoritarian mongoloids (and I mean that in more than one way, because we all know the chink fiefdom only really amounted to anything by copying the mongol empire. Much like everything you pissy sewagemen do is only ever a bad copy of other things made by more intelligent people.) But do try to keep up.

Now on this very forum I told you we were ready to mutiny over lack of PPE and long shifts. Now. If we were ready to mutiny over long shifts. Do you think 24h shifts, which aren't even legal, would not get us to do it?! YOU THINK?! Again. It's fairly obvious the chink bugmen are just trying to justify their human rights disaster area by slandering their betters. Not gonna work, you filthy, bat eating agents.

So on more local news. Everything's fine enough pretty much everywhere. There's only the usual level of vile, petty fights and political bollocks. It's honestly somewhat reassuring to have to tardwrangle the kitchen staff and realize it's just the normal bullshit, like, grab a pack o' beer have a chitchat and find out why everything's bollocks and they should just talk to each other more directly instead of assuming shit level "back to normal", at this pace I'll be able to get up to date on my studies with little issue. Yay.

Also Imperial College claims number of Spanish infected is 7 million. (The british org), their study seems to be purely based on "lethality should be 0.6% and there's this many dead therefore there has to be this many ifected", now, do I even need to explain why that's a bit ridiculous? 0.6 is south korea's lethality. We have a lot of old people here. Old people here went through multiple famines and A CIVIL WAR. Old people here tend to smoke like a chimney. Our lethality is higher than south korea's I shouldnt even need to explain it. I mean, yeah, our lethality is greatly exagerated by lack of testing, but not that much you british mongs. God this is primary education level shit I shouldn't need to explain this to supposed scientists. Still i kinda hope they're semi right, it would mean once we're done with isolation we won't get hit by a massive wave of new infected, which is my biggest fear.

Don’t feel bad. The NYT historically takes the Anti-American side for any issue ever. So you’re in good company. The NYT only likes authoritarian murderers.

Since related issues have been brought up a few times, just a historical tidbit...

One of the biggest ways that Christianity spread pre-Constantine was ministering to the poor and sick, especially in times and areas of plague. Those who recovered would often go on to become Christians, inspired by the courage and charity of the Christians who had cared for them.

Not really suggesting anything, and I have no idea what the modern implications might be, just an observation. I think God will understand not going to church to avoid coofing on old people for a month or two.

Many flights are still flying, albeit empty. The reason being? Landing slots. Read an interesting article on this. Every airport has X number of landing slots in a given day. They are allocated to each airline on a "use 'em or lose'em" basis. The airlines have requested this restriction be lifted for the time being, but I I haven't seen anything concrete that says it has. It should be.

So, some airlines are flying empty flights in the meantime to ensure they keep their most profitable routes and landing slots.

Personally, I live near the flight path for Phoenix Sky Harbor airport. Just saw two airliners take off. However, I have noticed incoming flights over the past week (pass right over my home) are GREATLY reduced. What was a flight passing overhead every five minutes is now less than one or two an hour.

The air traffic has slowed immensely. It's still there, have no idea who's on those planes, but it's a pittance of what it normally is. A friend who's a manager of the biggest food court at Sky Harbor said the airport itself is a ghost town. He got layed off this week and they shuttered the food court completely.

It's going to be awhile before any of this returns to normal, if ever.

Wow nuts. I hope it returns to normal one day

16 dead, 37 recovered, 492 infected (includes recovered)

Chart: sex, age and comorbidities.

Translation:

5 heart problems.
1 malignant cancer
1 extreme alcoholism and liver and pancreas failing due to alcoholism . He was 38.
1 with nothing, he was 80.
2 high blood pressure.
1 aorta stenosis, high blood pressure and heart problem.
1 encephakopathia, hepatopathia, hypothireosis and narrowed arteries. Not sure what these pathias are.
1 polyneuropathia, tuberculosis plus beetus and she was 86. No surprise here.
1 asthma, stroke, pacemaker
1 copd, whatever that is.
1 copd, beetus, high blood preasure and kidney transplant.

Mostly the old and weak dying first.

COPD = Chronic Obstructive Pulminary Disease. Things like Emphysema, popcorn lung, etc. Theirlungs are already severely damaged and the often require oxygen normally. The little old people you see carrying oxygen supplieswith nasal cannula are all COPD. And yeah if any COPD patient gets Corona Chan it’s pretty much over.

It has all been downhill since 9-11. We can chimp out about the Taliban or the Chinese, but truth be told., incidents don't just happen. There is a before, during and an after.

And if circumstances surrounding the suicide bombers motivations were different, or the Chinese capacity to contain this virus, things would be different.

I don't know how to explain it better. Catastrophic unfolding of events come about when the time is right for them. Otherwise they become non-catastrophies.

911 is sort of a pivotal moment for extremism, across many faiths.

Another outbreak traced to a religious gathering (islamic missionary cult) this time in India:

edit because I'm an idiot also need to post archives.

That would have been the better route to take. Just mass produce masks, sell them cheap and educate the public on how to wear them properly.

The last part is pretty important, considering I saw someone touch his face while wearing latex gloves today. That actually increases your infection risk, since viruses remain active longer on latex compared to skin, so good job. PPE only works when you use it correctly.
