CORONAVIRUS IS THE NO. 3 CAUSE OF DEATH IN THE U.S., AFTER HEART DISEASE AND CANCER

COVID-19 has moved past accidents, chronic lung disease, strokes, Alzheimer's, diabetes, flu and pneumonia, and kidney disease as the third most likely cause of death in the U.S.

It is impressive that a nation can be so fat that even nature can't kill us faster than we kill ourselves.

There's a lot of money flowing into new test purchases both from local authorities and private businesses, so I'm not sure what's with the hold-up. I'm watching the numbers, so far the percentage of positive tests does not go past 5.5% of daily total on worst days, so we have some margin of safety here. The minister promised a testing capacity of 6000+ a day, hopefully soon. The Czech Republic is already doing 6k daily.
Good to hear that new tests are on their way, but it still takes time to distribute them. I really understand all the stay at home restrictions now, or as one reasonable journalist wrote: "this is a real emergency, treat everyone including yourself as virus carriers". What still worries me, is the situation in hospitals, as overworked people are even more overworked and "normal" (in Poland it means "if it must be done quickly, we'll schedule it six months from now, please try not to die") procedures are delayed. As for our southern neighbours, 6k means a lot more than here, as their population is 10,6 million as opposed to our 37,9 million. On a side note, you probably know it, but this site I discovered recently has updates with cool graphs which is nice.

New York State now has more cases than China! Whoo-hoo!

Also apparently Trump has nothing to discuss today because it's a press conference about the Drug War. Lame.

Looks like Dems are concerned about this taking a bite out of their voter base

Totally anecdotal but most of the images I've seen of very sick patients have been mostly, but not all, black/afro-latinos in Brooklyn. Elmhurst in Queens seems to have a lot of Hispanics. I've personally heard of older white boomer age patients who have health issues admitted to hospitals in Manhattan. So from what personally observed it's the poorer (and unhealthy) residents of the outer boroughs overwhelming hospitals like Brookdale and Elmhurst and wealthy but sick and aging whites in places like Lenox Hill and Mt Sinai.

Warren is stupid to even go there because this is just going to confirm your chance of surviving this are better if you're white and live in Manhattan. If you're black/Hispanic and get stuck at Brookdale Hospital you probably are going to die.

Remember, archive everything !
I didn't archive the baby name article as it wasn't really news per se, but thank you for keeping up on this!

Google search borders on omniscience with the amount of data is scrapes. Most of the time it knows what you're searching for after you enter two or three letters. They can predict behavior and sometimes even events. Why the fuck can't YouTube give me a link to the live US Presidential address about the global pandemic as the first result? My screen resolution is at 1920x1080, why the fuck do I need to scroll past some bullshit news blurb (seriously wtf?) and six effectively old videos before I get to the live press conference? The live event is over a full page down the list; you have to scroll.

I'm not logged in and all data is wiped when the browser closes so there's nothing influencing these results. You really can't get a live press conference with the President of the United States up to the top of the list? "Trump conference" isn't clear enough for the algorithm to understand?

Change your VPN exit node to outside of the US, found this as the third result-

Yeah, what the fuck even was that press conference? Didn't seem very relevant to current affairs, and I am so excited to see the largest mafia in the world [DEA] spend even more money, resources and time fighting a 'war' that will never be won. Nothing like jackboots kicking in even more doors because the people behind it dared to grow the wrong plant or shoot some dope. It was asinine before, but totally irrelevant now with the state of things. Local news station cut back to the regular broadcast when they seemingly realized it wasn't anything related to COVID.

Mike Dewine has been doing a fantastic fucking job, however. I was never a big fan of him before all of this but dude is pretty solid. He's given quite informative press conferences every single day since shit started to ramp up, usually has several other people who will explain things from their perspective and they'll answer questions at the end. As a result I actually have some degree of faith in my state government thanks to the way they've handled it so far.

Yeah, I'm using something similar. Stats never tell the whole story, but they help. One odd thing is how we have one of the highest numbers of ventilators per capita in Europe, but apparently not enough people to maintain them, so you're right to be concerned about staff being overworked and hospitals getting closed down due to infections. But on the bright side this means that a decent chunk of all our cases is highly localized and easily isolated. I think we can hold out, just give it a couple weeks.

Someone is going to wind up having Andrew Cuomo lynched if this shit keep up. The dumpster fire that is NYC keeps getting worse:

NYCPA said:
UPDATE: @HealthNYGov has announced that all low-income immigrants—regardless of status—have access to COVID-19 testing, evaluation, and treatment as services covered by Emergency Medicaid. More #COVID19 resources for immigrants from @thenyic.

NYC just announced that they're allowing emergency medicaid and testing for illegal immigrants in NYC.
Not for its citizens, illegals specifically.

Cuomo: "We need ALL the ventilators! Trump is gonna get us killed!"
Also Cuomo: "Illegals come on in! Ventilators for all!"

This totally won't make the problem infinitely worse.

WTF?, neonate edition: baby names of 2020...
Admittedly, Lockdown is a pretty cool name. Kid'll either grow up to be a wrestler or a supervillain.

Beanie man Tim Pool discusses the evidence that China has lied their numbers, which is fair enough. And then he goes on a weird ramble about how the government is taking our civil liberties we're all gonna get chipped like doggos and we might have a war with China. Which I guess appeals to his viewers but it's like watching a poor man's Alex Jones. I'm not even convinced he believes a lot of what he says by the end of the rant.

An archive so @Ellesse_warrior doesn't have to do it but at 240p because honestly, you better off skipping this shit and watching videos of owls or something
