I have a sewing machine that needs some dusting off and I think that DIY face masks work as a little sewing practice.

Can you share the info in how to make those cloth masks with a filter?
here's one pattern:

google "aries mask pattern" to find the printable pattern, it's a google doc

edit to avoid double posting,
RE: March 1st numbers, this is just the US, info found here
one month.png
Cases on March 1, 2020 - 74
Cases on April 1, 2020 - 215,000

An interesting article- the US FDA and customs is refusing to allow anyone to import KN95 masks.

This is a Chinese standard identical to N95, except that instead of having rubber bands that go behind the head, they hook behind the ears.

Chinamen do not have especially robust ears by comparison to other humanoids, so it seems like these would work fine for normal people too. Very interesting.

Random masks that don't meet any standard are allowed in.

@JosephStalin is this a conspiracy to make Trump look stupid?

Why do people go on internet and tell lies? Who does that? Your own article states that only thing, that is lacking is FDA approval for medical use and masks getting stuck in customs is a hypothetical scenario.

Will be mightily surprised if not late, still 100 pages behind. Africa has the (predictable) answer to our problems :)

Don't laugh. Doom Guy's pizza and takoyaki chip diet is expensive. Speaking of Doom, have a pun from John Carmack.
Hobby Lobby decided to try the whole "We're essential" thing again. Did it go well? Nope!

my own article said:
By law, masks, along with most medical devices, can’t be imported or sold in the United States without the Food and Drug Administration’s say-so.
English, do you speak it?

Or perhaps what you're saying is that people should just ignore the law, mislabel shipments, and rely on customs incompetence?

I am due for a new car soon, I think it's time to call up all the dealers in a 100mi radius and ask them for any returned leases that they want to sell...for cash.
If you got cash then I would give it a month. You will likely be able to score new or a bascially new voluntary repo for the same or less.

"Stand on the yellow line!" I heard an employee say to a customer in another line. Nice to know we pay to be treated like that.
Well gee, Karen, I sure hope you asked to speak to the manager. That employee is probably working 4x as hard as usual for shit pay in order to be repeatedly exposed to the Wuhanic Plague for their entire shift by assholes who can't cover their coofs. God forbid they ask a customer to follow basic safety precautions in a tone you don't like.

Maybe if you ask to speak to enough managers you'll finally get to the manager of the bat soup shop in the Wuhan wet market and once you explain this global plague is really inconveniencing you, they'll shut the whole thing down.

Slow down buddy. Next you'll be suggesting @JosephStalin should use a self-checkout, or as he refers to them, a 'god-durned infernal grocery selling machine'.

I have a question guys about your personal experience: do you start to feel like outcasts because of not wearing masks in public? Or you are wearing masks all the time?

That is exactly what the UN tried to do to China after SARS. Look how well that turned out.

But breadlines are good because at least people are eating.

Goddamn, 2 Trillion dollar bailout and that's not enough. The entire Federal government only spends 4.5 T a year, one would think Americans could get by on that.

If I recall correctly, much of the 2T is going to essential businesses, not to the American people themselves. There's nothing wrong with that, as people will be double-screwed if their places of employment go under before they can go back to work, but the number is deceptively high when it comes to how much people are actually getting. $1,200, while undeniably useful, is going to be hard pressed to cover to months of expenses even in rural areas. In urban ones it may not be enough to handle even one month. Fortunately the number increases with the number of people in a household. Unless the IRS gets its way.

Getting infected with a virus to own the libs

Well...it is, though. If you don't have the freedom to be stupid and reckless with your own body, you don't have freedom.

We're close to 5,000 deaths per day. This shit really needs to burn out soon, I'm tired of wiping my groceries with clorox and being autistic about touching surfaces. Worst April Fool's prank ever, China.

Are there even any cases in your area? Not your country or state, but your local area.

I've really been thinking about how antithetical a pandemic is to the human existence. No hugging or touching people, no going places with more than 10 people gathered, staying shut inside your house, staying six feet away from people, having to disinfect everything you touch...

We're a social species and we crave interaction with people and being active. We crave stimulation and purpose. I'm an extreme introvert and even I really miss going to the bookstore or out to eat. But I still go out to my job three days a week so I'm not going stir-crazy like a lot of people are who don't have anything to do. Thank God for Netflix and Youtube to keep people entertained or I think rioting would have broken out by now.

I don't give a shit if people intentionally get coronavirus and die due to their own stupidity. It's the fact that it's an easily transmittable disease that you can potentially spread to dozens people that bothers me. See my earlier argument about anti-vaxxers. If you're endangering the public health, it ceases to be about just you and your body and you deserve to get shit on for your choices.

Pretty much every crime is something you do with your body, but most of society has collectively agreed that using your body to heave a pickaxe into your neighbor's skull is something the government should stop you from doing. I don't see why recklessly spreading a lethal plague is being treated as something inherently different. Nobody gives a shit about Deliverance George's personal health when he's wandering around the old folk's home smearing his hands on every available surface - they care that he's hurting other people.
