I asked around some acute/A&E consultants about what tests Johnson would need to be admitted to hospital for.

They uniformly said: lung x Ray, arterial blood gases, sputum film, supportive oxygen (the wee nose piece dealio).

The man is absolutely entitled to his medical privacy and we should be told not a bloody detail of what is happening - we have been told Raab is in charge and that‘s sufficient - but that seems to be the general agreement of what to expect. He is not a particularly well guy or he would not be in hospital at this time.

They also all agreed he won’t be released until he substantially improves, because any purely supportive care (antibiotics, IV fluids, oxygen tank) he would have been given in Downing Street to avoid publicity/panic. These folk have all been saying he was more seriously ill than publicly admitted for a few days now, so. Shrug. Take with the appropriate amount of salt.

I asked about the possibility of ventilation. They all had the view that the NHS trust responsible for his care will want him already in hospital in case his ABG is poor or he doesn’t pick up quickly, so that he can be ventilated quickly. Something I have been told by all the frontline medics I know (I’m sure the relevant kiwis can discuss) is that if/when respiratory arrest comes on coof patients, it does so very rapidly and is the major cause of death. They cannot have the PM coof his last in Number 10, or a blue light ambulance rush him very publicly to hospital.

So they will keep him until they feel confident the risk of deathcoof is past.

Long story short you are right. Most deaths are because not ventilating soon enough. I posted about it before, seems 8th day is the most vital 'cause that's when the cytokine storm causes the biggest upswing in inflamation. He probably isn't on ventilator yet. Just preemptive and probably CPAP.

While I wouldn't go that far, it's really not something to shut the entire country down for.

Really what's irritating me is the amount of people milking this for time off. I work in a hospital, but they've been offering up to 160 hours of extra PTO for pretty much any reason. Not just if you're sick/ with someone who is/ have kids, etc. Just for "I don't feel safe at work" type shit.

Then, even when you burn through all that, they'll give you extra hours to cover if you DO get something serious. All this on top of regular PTO and tons of FMLA.

So you get these people already out on FMLA for months for shit like "I'm sore". They finally come back to work and hear they can get pretty much a month off PAID FULL with no actual reason/proof needed? Right back out the door again.

What stops everyone from just abusing this shit and leaving the hospital a disaster? The government keeps telling people to stay home, the union, the hospital. Media has people scared and paranoid about it. More and more rumblings about people going to take the time off. What incentive is there to the people who keep coming back to work? It's essential work to the hospital. but there seems to exist this perfect storm to really screw it up.

Second, Palantir now has a deal with the CDC to provide coronavirus tracking. This will be the defense against the tail end of the virus and Wave 2, should it hit. China's farm betting was on this not happening probably for another 20-35 years when they'd have enough of a Middle Class buying up their own shit domestically that any lag from global demand would be mostly mitigated.

Lots of governments and government bods are being fairly quiet because they've all said lots of nice things about China before this bullshit started. The Smart Ones are keeping quiet or quietly realigning their positions, the stupid ones... who still bang the pro chinese drum (Like Turdeau) won't be around after the next elections.
