The Final Fantasy Thread

Honestly that's good to hear. Wall Market's one of the most memorable parts of FF7, and certainly the most politically incorrect. Even back when the remake was announced I was worried that they would have to neuter the sequence somehow and I was especially worried that they would cut the crossdressing sequence in an effort to be more "serious."

At the very least I am glad it's kept mostly intact.
Did they cut out the true protagonist of FF7?

Shin-Ra Manager's ongoing story is riveting and important. If he gets cut I will be annoyed. He is the glue.

I will say, ghost jannies are 10/10 meme material.

You can't exactly say a game is finished....until it's finished. And while FFXV was a mess, it had a beginning, middle, and end that wrapped up the main story. It also had the benefit of media and DLC to flesh things out.
Except 15 had massive sections cut and you could tell, while it's the first 25% of the story for 7, the game itself is a full game with everything embellished. They designed it around a smaller scope where as 15 had a huge scope and they couldn't put everything in or they massively cut shit.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought that the FF7 remake looked like shit, but I'd rather talk about the FF game I'm actually playing right now, so...

I've constantly heard people shit on the re-translation of "Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions," but it's actually one of my favorite parts of this version. (I never beat the original PS1 version, but I did play it, and the olde English thing they were going for in the remake really works for the story.) Also, I've never been a huge fan of FF12, but Balthier was always my favorite character in that, and he's even better here. (Cloud is shit here though, as many have said before, which just makes me laugh.)

There are like three lines that are zippier in the original translation than in War of the Lions. Every other piece of writing is so improved that I don't mourn the loss of them. Honestly, a re-release of the original FF7 just retranslated by someone competent would have been ideal to me.

Now I'm concerned

I'm collecting all the beastiary entries and I'm noticing two references to Lightning and one with Type-Zero. I swear if they try resurrecting that bullshit and the cut Fabula Nova Crystallis stuff that's going to be the end to the series. If the Retarded Lightning Waifu guy gains control of the series he's going to fucking crash it into the ground and retards will blame the story for ending the series and not the dude's atrocious views on what counts as gameplay. So westerners will further think RPGs are just supposed to be non-itneractive movies and will try and replicate netflix specials and market them as games, while ignoring actual proper series like Dragon Quest

Hey now Akira's way more grounded than whatever the hell's going on in that clip
In the manga the bikes would be airborne, the movie made them look more grounded because they had to. Megazone 23 had similar issues with the Garland and trying to make it operate like it had actual weight. Genesis Climber Mospeada threw that logic out and had their bikes go all over the place like a coardboard box attached to a rocket. Bubblegum Crisis also made their bikes weightless.

New ones are springing up all the time. There's more to western RPGs than Bioware and Bethesda.
Like what? You have some like Underrail but that's not everyone's cup of tea due to how the mechanics can get punishing at times and the limited control scheme as far as movement goes.

Larian is doing the new Baulder's gate but that's a long long ways off.

Beamdog is incompetent and has fucked up everything it's touched.

There's really no large middle ground because JRPGs occupy every space from low budget to high budget. Western RPGs tend to be a step above RPG maker or AAA Bioware shit designed by a committee . You're really kind of limited when it comes to WRPGs especially compared to how it was back then when you had numerious multiple companies who would routinely put out WRPGs.

Controversial Opinion Time:
I enjoy the world of final fantasy 7 and it's characters and am interested to see what this Remake/Reinterpretation of 7 has to offer. There was a lot of cut content to 7 due to time constraints and I wonder if some of we're seeing in the new content is based on that. I will hold any and all judgements until I play and beat Part 1, as I'd rather not destroy my new experience of the World of FF7 because it's a not a direct 1:1 of the old one.

Have you tried the wonderful world of eurojank? That's pretty much where the single A games are.

It's not fair to have a controversial opinion in complete ignorance of why that opinion would be controversial. But I'm not a nice guy so I won't spoil you.

There was this series about some albino faggot that got popular for awhile but I can't remember the name. Bitcher?

Also Kingdom Come: Deliverance maybe?
Yeah I have all 3 Witcher games and KCD.

I'm not counting the card game shit or witcher adventures, I just want them to release Cyberpunk so they can put something else out.
