Some other German ONG has been asking for days for a harbor to unload the economic resources they've picked around the Mediterranean, both Malta and Italy told them to sod off. Lampedusa wants a plague ship in front of their harbor where to concentrate and quarantine anyone showing his undocumented face.

Rate me optimistic, but there is a silver lining of this pandemic: Greta Thunberg will fall even more quickly into irrelevancy (who's got time to think about obnoxious girls with a recession going on?), and all those 'refugees welcome' guys will have to start and worry about their jobs instead of forcing cultural enrichment on their fellow countrymen. And Fuehrerin Merkel won't be able to justify mass immigration as some necessary measure to boost the ailing workforce numbers

The thing that gets me about the people who are against governments doing anything to curb the virus because their rights (as if they had any real ones in the first place) and the insane ones that think the joint governments worldwide are capable of pulling off this virus as an elaborate hoax is laughable.

they are an important market and they can not realy change their tradepartners. importing fresh food from the US is just to expensive and European Luxury goods are just unreplaceable for the upperclass. nobody will change from a G-class to a Ford or from french wine to american wine. The UK has very little industry left and produces very little of food luxury stuff people want.

It's long been a trope of sci-fi that alien invasions are generally a bad thing but have some positive aspects, like stopping humans wanting to kill each other. E.g. in The Invasion, one of the signs the alien virus has been vanquished is that people start to fight again in the Middle East. Usually, the negative aspects of humanity they highlight, like a tendency towards violence are ones associated with the right because Hollywood, and indeed most sci-fi writers worldwide, favor the left.

I suspect once the crisis passes in month's time the media will go back to its old ways. We'll know we're back to normal when the media in the UK is full of stories about how Brexit and climate change threaten the apocalypse by teatime and how we need self-identification for gender, trannies in bathrooms and to reinstate the plastic bag ban. No doubt they'll find some other teenager who's been scared shitless by her parents to push their obsessions so that if the obsessions are criticized they can just say people are bullying a child, are sexist, etc. Shit, there's gonna be a gap in the market for a disabled black tranny Greta equivalent in one month's time to cry about plastic bag pollution, racist white people not allowing third-world coronavirus infected refugees or not being allowed to change with the girls. The benefit to healthcare is Radiology groups and hospitals can easily provide 24x7 coverage and have reduced the turnaround time for a read and report from the traditional 1-2 days to 10 minutes or less.

At it’s more complex and experimenta levels it includes cameras and screens in the patients hospital room so the attending physician can video conference to the patient at any time of day ot night. While getting a real time report of all patient vitals, tests and chart entries.

Generally medical practice falls into two broad types. Clinicians and Diagnosticians. Clinicians are providing direct patient hands on care and analysis. Diagnosticians are the Doctors you never see. Radiologists, Hematologists, Pathologists, etc. the ones who look at the raw test results isolated from the patients words and input. (and yes there are many fields that straddle this, such as Cardiologist.) Pretty much all of the Diagnosticians have been practicing telemedicine for the past 20 years. To the point that a young Radiologist would likely be unable to properly read old school printed on film CT scans. Clinicians have long desired some similar ability to work from home in their underwear.
