Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

The trash 'exported' to Asia from the US according the the cited page is for recycling because of the cheap labor.
Recycling has always caused such problems with the exception of metals.
The point from the start is that paper is much heaver than plastic, therefore causing much higher emissions all the way from plant stage to finished product at the end user location.
The weight issue was ignored because the sources for how much they weigh was assumed (by a tard) to be unreliable.

I thought that it was common knowledge that exported trash was the end product of “recycling facilities” from first world countries. The end product gets exported to Asia because of cheap labor and loose regulations.

Recycling is a messy thing. That I agree. If you noticed that other poster was saying that the priority should be to reduce use of plastics (by using alternatives to plastic) and leave recycling as a last resource.

Of course paper production will produce some degree of waste and so will the recycling of paper. The point here is to judge which amount of waste or which type of waste is worse at long term.

Plastic takes longer to degrade and ends up as microplastics that inevitably end up in water sources and inside of fishes that are consumed by the population of both first and third world countries.

Paper probably uses more water and energy resources to be produced and recycled but its waste product (even when badly managed) is overall better for human and animal health.

Forests can be replanted and there is technology available for the production of less resource heavy paper. Sure it's slightly more expensive than producing plastic/regular paper but the environmental effect is more positive at long term.

Better packaging design (that can be reused, easily cleaned and are actually recyclable) and durable reusable bags (made of paper or fabric) are the way to go.

Which is only available to Stanford docs, nurses, and other employees at risk, so there’s still no way that the President or his task force members could have been tested using it.
It's being administered to everyone in the Graduate School of Business.

Stanford has VIPs come through every day to speak, the campus is only partially shut down. They don't want to lose their connection to the halls of power, even in grip of a killer virus.

I wonder if this pandemic will open people's eyes to the importance of local business especially organic farms. Things like community farming and victory gardens should be way more common.

Most cheap plastic stuff from China can be made locally and with better materials.

This is the biggest change in hoping for (pure naive optimism) is for the manufacturing and producing of goods is distributed on a more local level, reducing the need for large transportation of goods and give rise to a more diverse market.

I forgot to mention my visit to a gas station yesterday to get gas. I watched the local Lays potato chip distributor wheel in boxes of chips wearing no mask or gloves. As I was contemplating how many people he comes into contact with daily, I saw the fucking UPS guy pull up and deliver a package without mask or gloves. All of the idiots sitting in their houses and snitching on neighbors have no idea what's happening out in the world.

Are you thick? The long term problems far outlast the short term solution. The environment is much more then muh emissions. We are drinking in a sea of plastic. We are eating a plantation of plastic. That shit gets in everywhere. Its causing problems in organs of every living thing.

The problems of plastic are bigger then weight and cost.

What the hell is with these faggots and their need of plastic bags?

That's what happens when you offer state payments to 'help' families but, only if there's no father or husband in the home for a few decades.
Generations of women and children who know nothing about home maintenance and couldn't do it if they knew.

But I mean. That shit literally looks to be in a worse state than buildings that WERE USED AS COVER UNDER MACHINEGUN FIRE AFTER AN ARTILLERY BOMBARDMENT. I've been a teen outside home with little knowledge of maintenance. It only takes a little will and boy scout ethics to make it kinda half work.
Then again:

I saw it for myself from 3rd to 12th grade, they rip the shit out of everything. They let lawns die. They horseplay in enclosed porches, throw each other through screen doors, fling beer bottles when empty, just straight up wild animal shit. Piss on the bushes, etc.

Yeah, that'd do it. When I read your comment it reminded me of having read about that nefore, w/people bitching about the lack of care. I just hadn't joined the dots before. Jesus, even the gypsies have more care. Fuck I think that might be why gypsies integrated so well in USA. Here in europe their ethics are unacceptable but over there compared with your black folk they look like god damned saints! I really didn't believe the rants before seeing those videos, but that looks like a fucking ghost town made millenia ago, it shouldn't happen unless people haven't just not maintained it, but also wore and tore the shit out of it like a pack of fucking chimpanzees. Jesus christ almighty that's depressing.

The actual point was about the correct material to use in light of the WuFlu, European MRSA outbreak and chemical residue left in cloth bags in light of the current 'oh crap we banned the sanitary bags' situation in places.
This isn't the place to discuss how your eco assumptions are wrong unless they are directly related to the WuFlu.

Positive news always first: once again, here you have a bunch of people getting tired of waiting for the government to save them and taking matters into their own hands:

More videos below. But first, here's a fucking dumbass:

And this is him in a couple of weeks.

UK nurses exhausted:

Epidemiologists say: "70% will become infected."

For those of you who are still dealing with friends, co-workers, family members, etc. who refuse to believe and say "it's just the flu", show them this video, if you show them enough of these videos they will eventually come around and realize how serious this actually is:

"I don't think there's really any debate amongs scientists. It's about 10 times as lethal as the seasonal flu. And if you need to see that in action: A 100 doctors have died in Italy taking care of patients with Covid-19. That's not something you ever hear with seasonal flu. This is a much deadlier virus than the flu.".

(Later she goes into the blood plasma treatment being promising, which is also good news.)

So much for the hot summer weather putting an end to it: "Do not assume that weather can change or stop the virus."

Iran: "Donald Trump is the Coronavirus" (yes, they still want the sanctions lifted)

More anecdotal evidence in favour of HCQ. There are already shortages due to stockpiling.

I suppose it was too simple to tell people to calculate the estimated payment by multiplying the relevant FFS payments by 0.0619 (30 divided by 484). Government bureaucracy FTW?

Numbers is scary.

There's a whole table when you do workers comp reviews so we can look up just how disabled people are. so e.g. you have two conditions and one is 40% disabling and the other is 30% disabling. How disabled is this patient?

The effect of microplastics are yet to be determined and it seems most of them are completely innert. So utter NO at that last "damaging organs" part. I literally wrote a fucking coursework on the matter and despite my best efforts I literally couldn't find jack shit.

Most plastic bags are 100% recyclable. You are wrong on that part too. What we should be doing is expanding our recycling efforts, cleaning the god damned sea, and thinking about how we deal with the POLLUTION GOBLIN HIVE KNOWN AS CHINA. Because private business will keep sending them shit so long as it's cheap to do so and they will keep dumping it intonthe ocean so long as no one BOMBS THEM INTO OBLIVION.

Furthermore, yet again, the real answer to microplastics is the same as with emissions: BIOTECH. Or it would be if EU legislation would let us of course but as always it doesn't. Biotech has proven it can find ways to get microorganisms to capture the microplastics out of the water. That's the only way to deal with the issue long term. Because most microplastics don't even come from bags, you have no fucking clue just how much plastic we use that has nothing to do with bags and cannot be changed for fucking paper.

Stop. Being. Dumb. You can only really protect the environment if first you make a fucking mendeley account, you go to pubmed, you start using mendeley to archive shit and you then analyze the actual issue through that archive, there is no symple "just don't use plastic lol" sollytion here!

Y'all bag niggas listen up. Just get reusable bags and wash them with hot water and soap after shopping. Boom, done, problem solved, lets move on.
Forecast numbers are irrelevant. Models are irrelevant. The interesting numbers is the county level data above. It's the best I've found so far in terms of relative usefulness.
This is the only site I know of that shows ICU cases per county. The state level isnt reporting anything. For instance, we know how many ICU cases there are int he state, but this site can tell me there are only X number in any county. Fascinating to see the numbers broken down as such. Also puts things into perspective, both on how fucked the rural counties would be with a minor outbreak given how few beds they have and also how most urban areas are nowhere near capacity. And I find it fascinating how there is a county with over 60K people in it and 1 ICU BED. 1! Just...HOW? The county I grew up in was mostly rural and had twice the population (and nearly twice the land) yet had 18 ICU beds.

Somehow doubt they'll give Trump the same respect if he gets touched.

No, they wouldn't. But the UK's in a strange mood at the moment. Normally you can shit talk the Conservatives all day and the mob on Twitter do little else. However, when Boris got moved to the hospital I think people were genuinely shocked. Suddenly shit-talking Boris is unacceptable to the mob.

It reminds me of Diana died and there was a mass outpouring of grief, and you were in danger if you didn't join in. For example, some Italian took a teddy bear from one of the shrines people had set up. He was arrested and then assaulted outside the court. Normally a slightly dismissive attitude is the monarchy is no problem, but this guy picked the wrong day. And the wrong court to give an interview outside.

The RMT is run by swine, but they probably sensed the mood change. Also, I bet they wanted to get rid of this guy anyway and this was an excuse.

70%?

Obama would beat Trump, Trump would beat Biden.

Also John Southern has video of the cops dragging someone off a bus in Philadelphia allegedly for not wearing a mask

It seems like he was asked to leave the bus, police were called, he resisted and they dragged him off. The video was then shared on social media and the sight of a proud West Philadelphian man being manhandled by cruel East Philadelphian cops caused the bus company to change its policies. Now you can ride the buses in Philly without wearing a mask and The Man can't do nuffin to ya! I'm guessing we're going to be hearing that coronavirus infection rates will be particularly bad among public transport users in the future and that West Philadelphian men are most affected.

SEPTA says it will no longer enforce a short-lived policy requiring riders to wear facial coverings, after a widely shared video showing a man being dragged off a bus, allegedly for not wearing one, prompted confusion about whether masks were mandatory while riding public transit.

Why even post the videos if they’re not worth archiving? Also we archive everything regardless if you think it’s important or not. You never know what will be important in the future.

The disk speed is a bottleneck in the current server, after the new one is set up it might be better. Don't stop uploading important stuff though.

For your edification - hohol is an Ukrainian (common cossack surname, it's like calling Russians Ivans or Borises); Usually used in derogatory manner by Russians, making it triggering for Ukrainians. I do not have anything against Ukrainians per se, but I do post on kiwifarms, so obviously I would choose to call an Ukrainian hohol and a Japanese person a jap.
The cumslot at the end of your dick is also known as a a jap's-eye. FYI
