Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

Look guys, we need to have a talk. This is going to a bit long and condescending, but I have a point here.

I know people get off on the doomer "this is worse than governments are saying and we're all going to die," shit but here's the thing. This is not just happening in the United States where you guys have all the CIA cloak and dagger shit.

I live in Canada. The provinces of Canada and the Canadian government have separate and well defined jurisdictions and powers. The Federal government did not create the provincial governments and the provincial governments are not subservient to the federal government. The provinces are created by the Queen and derive their power from the crown the same as the feds. The government of Canada has the ability to force provincial governments to do some things, for example they can implement new taxes, or change the criminal code as they did when they legalized marijuana, but for the most part they have no power to actually implement these directives and it's largely left up to the provinces. We do not, for example, have national health care in Canada. We have 10 provinces, each with their own healthcare system. If I'm from Ontario and I go to Alberta and get sick, I'm not covered because I'm not a resident of Alberta. What happens is the government of Alberta actually sends a bill to the government of Ontario for my care and Ontario foots the bill for my treatment. So you have a system where functionally the provinces are in charge of internal affairs that are handled at a national level in most other countries, and the federal government is in charge of more big picture things like international trade, fiscal policy and the criminal code. We don't even have free trade between the provinces. Going from PEI to Quebec to Alberta feels almost as distinct as going to three different countries in the EU, because the provinces are in charge of so much. This is also why the provinces carry so much debt compared to other sub national entities.

Here's how that relates to the current situation, the response to COVID-19 has largely been carried out in Canada at a provincial level as it almost entirely falls within provincial jurisdiction. The feds have cut taxes and started printing money and have closed the international borders, but the provinces had declared states of emergencies and closed their own borders long before this. The Federal government tried to take control of the response and got told to fuck off by the provinces quite publicly. So the separation of powers in this situation is clear, and we know the feds are not pulling the strings behind the scenes because Trudeau got so publicly cucked by the provinces when he tried to take control.

So what does all this have to do with the doomer shit?

Well, we've established the the provinces operate essentially as tiny nation states when it comes to their own internal affairs. We've established that the COVID-19 situation is almost entirely in provincial jurisdiction. Here's the thing, there are several provinces in Canada that are geographically bigger than most states with populations well under a million. I live in one of them. So you've got these sub-national entities in charge of all their own internal affairs that are just as big or bigger than most European countries with regards to size, with fewer people than a mid-sized US metro area.

Having lived in one of these places my entire life three things are readily apparent:

1) The government is incompetent, does not have the resources to effectively govern and no one takes it seriously. Which is fine by me because when you're outside any kind of municipality and away from a main highway you're effectively living under anarchy with no building codes and no enforcement unless someone calls the cops. All the little tourist places around have all their own little signs they put on the highway. The government decided this looked untidy and passed a law that said they had to be removed and you had to buy these uniform signs through the government. No one listened. The government didn't have the resources to enforce the law. The signs are all still there. Nothing changed. As far as far as I know the law is still on the books with no hopes of ever being enforced. The government asked the public to pretty please with sugar on top do something, we said no, and they couldn't do shit.

2) The government cannot keep anything under wraps. It always gets out. Everyone knows an MHA. Everyone knows everyone. Everyone is related. Everything gets out. The government here couldn't even kill a mentally retarded man in a rural area who was no longer on speaking terms with his family without everyone knowing about it. The government can't handle it's own internal investigation into harassment in the legislature without everyone finding out.

3) The government is nearly insolvent and had to go to the feds after it failed to sell bonds at a favourable rate on the open market.

So that brings us to our current situation. The official government stats as of this writing are 241 total cases, 120 recovered, 6 hospitalized, 3 dead, for a total of 118 active cases. Two out of three of those deaths my mom texted me before the government officially released the new numbers for the day saying something along the lines of, "Oh, so and so died of the virus, he was a volunteer fireman with your uncle."

So everyone knows everyone and the news of anyone dying travels at the speed of light. And then you guys are here telling me this government in charge of the COVID-19 response that is nearly bankrupt, can't cover up of the killing of one of one mentally ill hoarder and doesn't have the resources to enforce a ban on roadside signs, is able to cover up something as significant as a bunch of COVID-19 deaths and more serious symptoms that have been thus far kept under wraps?

Sir, you are retarded.

Tell that to Ramon from Bangbros, he went to prison for awhile for some Santeria bullshit, which is why he went from fucking tight teen pussies to tranny bussy.

Mayor Ala Raza's bleeching isn't helping with the whole white replacement either. something like 2/3rds of mixed race people in the country now are hispanic/white mixes of some sort and whether they look like Zimmerman or Fuentes they tend to consider themselves white and end up rather Alt-Right in views. And not buying into the typical "Mah holohoax and Slavery" bullshit is really putting a spanner in the works. That's why there is this bizarre Trad Cath resurrgence in the US now among libs. eventually libs are going to have to chose between blacks and spics, and they're going to be fucked regardless of the decision. Biden vs Sanders essentially is how the rest of the Dem's 2020s is going to go, with Biden "King of black people" vs Sanders "new immigrants and youth" basically leading the party to end up like how it was pre-clintons. Never being able to convince enough people to pick their candidate because whoever they pick, they end up pissing another wing of their party.

Blacks getting destroyed by this disease would really fuck the party come 2020, and this disease isn't really hurting the southwest the way everyone was hoping. Puerto Ricans are basically the Coons of Hispanics and are the main reason crime rates aren't parity to whites. even Libs admit this "accidentally" just go to a state map of incarartion ratios between whites and hispanics, somehow its relatively 1:1 until you hit the NYC metropolitan area, where it shoots up to Coon levels because of the Ricans.
Can confirm, Ricans, specially those from the Hood raised on bootleg dvds and regueton, are just reskinned Dindus (with extra victim complex due to the "muh colonialism" meme and buying into tape-delay Chavez propaganda, but that's a topic for another thread)

I do have a question though, and I'm glad I'm not the only one noticing it, but there are many more survivors of the Xi Jin Plague than casualties, and barely anyone adresses it.

I don't mean to ignore or be insensitive to those that have lost loved ones to this garbage, but between the growing suspicions that parts of governments might be growing to like having people corralled in their homes and might look for ways to fumble and fuck up attempts to get rid of this ASAP.

I don't mean to sound like a doomer, either. But there are key sound bites (Like a commercial being spammed saying this is the "new normal"?) and Fauci apparently dragging his feet that are starting to piss me off.

Now the question will start to be: how much power at town/county/state levels do mayors/county managers/govermors have to shut down the courts? Because you cant get to higher courts in a lot of cases til you lose in lower courts. Could be irrelevant anyway, since a lot of local courts are already closed as part of local govt office closure.

I think we're also going to see a situation where Trump says to open back up nationally and the Blue States unite under Cuomo and refuse. They can try to paint him as an evil corporate moneylover putting lives at the expense of cash. They can postpone the election and accuse Trump to doing it to stay in power, til he has no choice but to allow mail in voting, where they will have an advantage. We could even see a proposal to suspend the Electoral College for this election because how can they meet in a lockdown?

This is happening everywhere, not just in Austrailia. As cases drop, restrictions increase. I think for the states who hven't been as harsh as Michigan, they are just waiting to get through Easter so they don't get the bad press like Kentucky has. Betting on a lot of "things are still bad, we tried to loosen up but you guys blew it, here's the new lockdowns till June" decrees starting Monday.
On matters involving Federal law (and the Constitution) you may be able to appeal directly to Federal Court judges. And you don't have to go to a courtroom, I'm almost certain you could file a petition and request an injunction/stay electronically. Federal rules of court are different from local and state rules.

And I would love to see Cuomo band with other blue state governors. I want to see the liberal left actually state. openly and for the record, that they are demanding the suspension of the Constitution. That they insist the Electoral College, and the election, everything the Founding Fathers fought for, be postponed over a coof whose death toll doesn't even come close to the Spanish Flu or Swine Flu. I bet the Hong Kong flu claimed more lives than this shitty China virus. It would be the end of the DNC and the Democratic Party.

Prime Minister now officially discharged from hospital and effectively on medical leave. Rule of thumb is every day in ICU = 1 week of recovery. So he's now out of it for probably another 7 weeks and is already on "very lighty" duties. Only decision he wants to be involved in for definite is when to lift the UK's lockdown.

On the flipside, he will be in convalescence at Chequers, which, ya know.....

Worse places to have a sick bed.
That place has got to be haunted. Just fucking look at it. It's like the scene of every god damn brit horror story.

US District Judge Justin Walker of Kentucky overturned a ban on church services that was issued by Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer. The judge described the ban as something out of the pages of a dystopian novel. "On Holy Thursday, an American mayor criminalized the communal celebration of Easter. That sentence is one that this Court never expected to see outside the pages of a dystopian novel, or perhaps the pages of The Onion." He said the city is prohibited from "enforcing; attempting to enforce; threatening to enforce; or otherwise requiring compliance with any prohibition on drive-in church services at On Fire." Walker added "The Mayor's decision is stunning. And it is, beyond all reason, unconstitutional."
(bold and italics mine)
And so it begins, the push against unconstitutional and repressive decrees. This really lifts my spirits. I'm not one to go gallivanting around and when I do I'm dressed in PPE (and so are most people now) but I believe these overreaching decrees are wrong and wholly unconstitutional.

This is where so many of these politicians lacking all semblance of nuance should take into consideration the legal doctrine of "reasonable accommodation". The Government has a major overriding public interest (not spreading a plague) that has run into a constitutional right. Two in fact. The right of assembly and religion. Rather then just flat out banning both of them, the mayor should have done something like order "Okay, I can't stop you from doing this, but I can require you all to wear masks and have someone checking temperatures at the door". And then fine them if they don't do THAT. He's not banning the gathering or the worship, he's addressing the underlying public interest instead and requiring reasonable accommodation.

But I suppose thats much harder to think through over "IMMA SEND MY JACKBOOTS TO ROUND YOU ALL UP!".

Do you connect to a cellphone tower or wifi network?

You won't be asked if you want to install this app.

Could be. I'm also imagining a change to the TOS of using the Apple or Android OS on your phone that makes this mandatory, and bricks your phone if you refuse. Getting a burner if this happens.

I wonder what the percentage is of the adult pop in the US who has an Iphone or Droid. Its gotta be near 80%. Add to that the poors with Obamaphones, since the govt could easily mandate the app on those as well.

Shocking! Young Indian girl raped in coronavirus isolation ward dies
A 25 year old girl kept in isolation ward suspecting coronavirus infection has shockingly died due to rape in the hospital and two persons have been arrested in this regard. The incident happened in the Gaya district where the young girl had gone to her mother in law's house after aborting a two month fetus. Due to excessive bleeding, she was admitted in the Anurag Narain Mahat hospital there and the doctor's suspecting that she could be infected by COVID 19 put her in an isolation ward.

After a few days of stay and further tests it was confirmed that the girl was not a coronavirus patient and was discharged. Her bleeding worsened at home and she passed away on April 6th. The mother in law had raised suspicion that something terrible happened to her at the isolation ward as she was in a state of shock after coming out of the hospital and in her final moments shared about being raped by a doctor.

The police have seized the CCTV footage and found that two persons wearing doctors uniforms had entered the isolation ward suspiciously and have now made arrests and are investigating further.

I guess we just see things differently then. But about religious assemblies, they aren't being cut off because the govt. is atheistic and wants to quash religion. It is to prevent people from catching the virus from other worshippers and spreading it to other contacts in the community.

Oddly enough, our freedom of religion is violated in some situations: imagine we were Santeros and we wanted to practice animal sacrifice .... no can do. Or trip out on any number of drugs. Sorry Charlie.
Just gonna beat up on you a tad, I know you live in SoCal but you aren't legally required to be ignorant of the US Constitution.
Also in the '90's, the Democrats had to pass a law directing the Federal Executive to stop interfering in religion including drug law.

Ah yes, that "right-wing stunt" where a fact exists and we don't like it because the "wrong people" were right. Even when they admit that the WHO fucked up, they still have to try and frame it as a "vast, right-wing conspiracy" because they're psychotic idiots who think that the rest of us are as brainless as their hyper-moderated Twitter circle that banned everyone to the Right of Lenin 4 years ago using every blocklist on the planet.

"Young girl" and "25 years old" are not the same thing imo.
