I had missed this amazing story while reading about the anger that many Chinese have at Nigerians and other Africans bringing COVID-19 back into their country.

These people have not only been ungrateful and attempted to escape the mandatory quarantine that the Chinese authorities have imposed to protect the Chinese people, but one of them actually did this:

[Okonkwonwoye Chika Patrick] tested positive for the coronavirus after arriving in Guangzhou city of southern China from abroad on March 20.

When Ms Wang asked Mr Okonkwonwoye to take a blood test on April 1, the patient ignored her and attempted to walk out of his quarantine ward.

The Chinese nurse was pushed to the ground and bitten on the face when she tried to stop the Nigerian citizen from leaving, according to a police statement.

Nigerian Okonkwonwoye Chika Patrick, 47, savagely beat up the nurse, known by her surname Wang, after she stopped him from leaving his quarantine ward at a hospital in China. He is detained by police.

Fortunately, the police brought him down and he is now restrained in police custody.

Chinese people are allowed to talk about problems like this, unlike Americans (look at those who have been fired for criticizing the failure of Lakewood, NJ residents to comply with anti-coronavirus measures). Who is really 'free'?

btw I caught the virus and as a 29 healthy but a smoker it was pretty fucked up my test came back after I was admited to a Canadian hospital and they told me my immune system "Overreacted" which is what put me there. Now im fine and was released after 3 days. I have no serious symptoms other then my chest and lower back are very sore. So what happened was for around a 6 hour period my chest started spazzing out kinda like a gripping clutch to my heart happened then a spike in temperature which lasted around an hour or so it subsided. then i had a major full body inflammatory response which was scary and lasted around 30 seconds. After that the only way I could explain it is "I forgot how to breath" I had to really try to breath not that my lungs couldn't handle it but my brain not operating normally i had to remember to breath in so 50% of my attention was for breathing I would go 6 seconds without remembering to breath back in, this took several hours to correct before I was brave enough to sleep. I slept 15 hours and woke up shaky but stable and I feel fine now and even started to smoke again but this shit is fucked up.

forgot to mention i felt fine hours before like normal shit crept up out of nowhere i was asymptomatic.

The Sudden onset from feeling normal to fucked up was like 1 hour which would explain some vids of people just dropping in public thankfully I was at home and had my phone near me. That being said if their are less hearty individuals or they live alone means lots of dead people that didn't get to a hospital.

Like I said, let them do their thing. Go jump up and down in the name of Jesus. Go to parks, crap in a public loo, eat off a raw buffet. Do it. But don't force me into it.

Don't reopen the school and obligate my kids to attend, because "the whole world can't shut down." Don't obligate my husband to go back to work at the office and come into contact with thousands of people again, per week, all in the name of opening up the economy again, and exercising our right to do whatever the fuck we want, with no regard for anybody.

Because for a lot of people COVID 19 is a death sentence. You also want to get kids sick, who recover with testicles and ovaries like marbles for the rest of their lives? Or young adults who aspire to have a family and get married, only to find themselves on dialysis, reproductively sterile, with weak lung function?

Thing is, we had a fucking chance. Young people aren't going to have the choices we have, even if we opened the world up. Opening things up and letting nature take its course will do nothing but kill people, maim others, sterilize some, affect the brains of others. Those who recover completely get a total shit sandwich of having less family income due to disability, loss of social and emotional support, and a dried up wellspring of opportunities because sane people still won't go out.

So for those of us who have lived our own fucking lives and had choices to make available to us awesome. Sure, throw youth on the front lines, about 2/1000 will, in fact die. Many more will live with complications.

I could fucking croak tomorrow. Catch is, I won't. It will be somebody else's mom. Or kid. Or aunt, uncle, friend ... grandparent.

So please, it is easy to volunteer other people into getting infected, because you want to exercise your rights. But if you are over 30 and under 65 with no pre-x then all the more power to you.

But please, try to respect the fact that a lot of people are really afraid of this thing for damn good, evidence-based reasons and are holding out up until more information or a vaccine comes in. So what you consider essential for exercising your rights is a great source of anxiety for others.

The world is not shutting down either. Only non-essential activities and services and schools. Far cry from "the whole world."

Not that anyone should be taking my advice, but I got acute bronchitis and some sort of virus this past October and that shit *really* put me down. One thing that provided some intense relief was during a hot bath, I took a steaming hot was cloth, put it on my chest and tried to lay as horizontal as possible. I just remember that sensation of being the most pleasant thing I'd felt in 5 days.

the problem with going "Gotham:No Man's Land" with NYC is how many people commute to NYC from Philly, Jersey, New England, etc. And then there is the thousands of entertainers that go from NYC to LA and also all over the world. if you listen to the last 5 minutes of any NYC Stand up comic's podcast from 2019, you'll notice they would go full typhoid mary. Its rather difficult to lock down a fucking major tourist destination.

Having Said that, if we quarantined everyone north of the Mason-Dixon and East of the Appalachians, it might work, although society would have improved in general if that entire area was wiped out 250 years ago.

Also good on Russia, Brazil and Sweden for showing the rest of us how fucked we would be if we didn't quarantine. Just based on the rate of infection that happened in infections in Februrary and March, We would basically be at 6 million infected.

TL;DR If we all trusted russia we would be at 6 million and need our crematoriums working 24/7 to dispose of the bodies.

Public employees sign a contract with their employer (the state/county/township) as a pre-condition to their employment, dingus. Read the contract and follow it or you get fired. When you sign a document in this country, it is binding.

The efficacy of the contract and the laws it reacts to are another issue entirely and the locals need to deal with that at a local level. Your example (which I can't even find a source on, though I don't doubt it - New Jersey is fucking stupid) isn't some national mandate, which you cannot ever seem to fathom because the only system you know is a top-down authoritarian shithole system.

I sure as hell know that firing shit wouldn't fly in my municipality or most municipalities anywhere in my state unless the person was goosestepping around town and calling people niggers. That complaint would get passed around the office and laughed at. Perhaps people need to get involved in their local affairs in order to fix shit like this.

That's the double-edged sword of our great system: people can get involved and make change. We endow our citizens with the responsibility to govern and the consequences of that responsibility ebb and flow with the feelings of the day.
