I fully expect President Trump to point and laugh at these state coalitions as well. The fuck are they going to do, complain at him some more?

Moreover, the time for the states to work together in a useful fashion was a month and a half ago. At this point it is just out of spite.

Far beyond that, 18 months minimum. Their will be hotspots until a vaccine, feds need to get their ass in gear and prepare for the hotspots.
We're probably ~6 or 7 months away from a proven vaccine and another 3 months before production means widescale distribution is possible. The problem is this is going to be smack dab in the middle of the second wave if we're really unlucky.

I don't like the idea of this quarantine these governments are starting to formulate to ascertain infection, but I also don't like these half-assed half-measures we're trying to do in order to keep resuscitating a global zombie economy that nearly flatlined in '08. This virus requires ridiculous no contact and lockdowns to contain it because we have no vaccine, no idea how to it spreads, or how it even originated in China. Everyday you have scientists saying contrasting shit of what to do about the virus. China lied so we don't even know how many got infected or killed over there. And what can you do? Everyone except North Korea fucked up hard in the initial response and there's no choice to wait to see when this thing can burn out to the point it doesn't rebound, and that's Faustian because all of these governments, politicians, and bureaucrats are going to find ways to keep fucking you over in this crisis.

Checks notes.
Well it appears the last time states came together to spite the feds 700k americans died.
Yeah wtf are they gonna do?

I was talking about people who have recovered from the disease recently, not in general. Sorry for being unclear.

All of this is much, much, much more complicated than it seems.

Don't count on "herd immunity" to this virus. And don't listen to this boomer who wants to send kids to the front line to acquire this elusive "herd immunity:"

Get this ... his solution is to open schools to infect children, and those with parents over 45 would get some kind of magic pass, to keep their kids at home.

Just give it a little time. There is always a "workaround." Here is a suggestion, put people like him on the front lines. Anybody enthusiastic about building potential herd immunity can volunteer as a candystriper in a local ICU.

The world would be a better place if medical researchers refrained from making business projections, and business people refrained from volunteering youth (and school staff) to get infected with a potentially lethal virus.

Sorry, just bitter. Some of us actually have faced a lifetime of disability, already, due to the actions of boomers who preceded us. When I had my kids I made a promise to myself and them that they would be spared such a fate, and then it is like what the fuck? This shit again?

There is always a workaround. More PPE, a more efficient means of testing, and a better understanding of this virus will open things up. Sorry this guy is losing his shirt, but human lives are more important than his stock portfolio, especially when it comes time to children and young adults who have their whole lives ahead of them.

Surviving the ICU is also complicated. Although this article is about older people, younger ones end up there too.

Not big enough for its own thread, but lol at Vince McMahon paying off the governor of Florida and now WWE is an "essential business".
DeSantis has done a pretty shitty job overall responding to this but at least he isn't the governor of Georgia!

Positive/funny/uplifting/hopeful videos first: This guy is probably the luckiest bugger on earth to be stuck somewhere during the Covid-19 pandemic because he's stuck at an Ayahuasca retreat in Peru, LMAO. Very nice place judging from his video. He was already trying to "expand his consciousness", now he spend some more time expanding it a little more, LMAO.

More positive news: India has relaxed its export ban on hydroxychloroquine:

Now why would India do this if hydroxychloroquine was as useless as the MSM would have us believe...

More on the HCQ controversy:

Here's another doctor claiming adecdotal evidence in favour of hydroxychloroquine combined with zinc, which is what we discussed earlier in the thread with regards to many people being mineral deficient and needing zinc supplementation:

As you can see, this doctor too says that the HCQ+zinc combo should be reserved for people who are sick and not be wasted on prophylactic use, "otherwise we're gonna blow through our supply."

I don't people to get stuck on hydroxycloroquine just because President Trump mentioned it (and that's the only reason there is such a controversy around it), so I am going to try and find videos about other drugs that are being tested and/or are considered for trials. If you've been keeping up with Youtube you might have seen all the videos about blood plasma. I'm not gonna post those because there are so many of them, go to Youtube and find them if you're interested. Here's a news item about the experimental remdesivir trial:

Check out what this doctor said about getting VIP patients: "All protocol went out the window", ie, VIPs get the extra special treatment that great unwashed don't get.

Deep dive into the cruise line operators:

Do not isolate outdoors, prole!
I can't stop laughing at this. That's some pure honk shit. HEY YOU! DON'T MAKE ME GET MY HELICOPTER TO COME TRAVERSE THE MOUNTAINS AND YELL AT YOU FOR NOT BEING FAR ENOUGH AWAY!

And remember, just 5 minutes ago the public were being told the likes of this (this was posted to Yahoo from NYT:

Q: If you are driving alone, is it OK to go hiking outdoors a short distance ?from home? (Needless to say, hiking is a great way to escape from indoor anxiety.)

A: “This is in more of a gray zone right now,” Patzer said.

As this reader suggested, if you want to go for a hike, you should do it nearby, Patzer said — “where you would not have to make stops for refueling or food.” But be sure that you’re going to a location where you can practice social distancing.

Separately, if the area is under a “shelter in place” order, “hiking would not be appropriate because it is not an urgent need,” she said.

Even so, that doesn’t mean you can’t go outside to exercise close to home, said Patzer. “Walking around your neighborhood would still be appropriate as long as you can practice social distancing.”

The general public will only end up more confused because of such mixed messages.

I'm absolutely not advocating stopping lockdown measures, if I was in charge I'd push for it until a vaccine is ready. I'm not sure if that's realistic though.

Part of the other reason for the Hydro controversy is that the original French study was flawed to fucking hell and back. From what I've been hearing the actual success rate of it with zinc is around 60 to 70%, which is a damn good thing, but there's the question of if it's a placebo or not, and other health concerns. That's the reason for the health trials - also that if we're handing this out like candy there's a chance Corona will mutate a resistance to it and we're up shit creek then.

The trials are promising though, which is good news, the question is now maintaining supply and dosage and delivery. And to keep people from assuming that 'because there's a treatment I don't need to social distance.' The second group are my major concern because they do exist and will spread this shit without any concern for anyone else.

The coalition thing seems short sighted, surprise surprise. In this case I do think the governors have more of a handle on what their individual states need, but dividing off into separate coalitions comes off as petty. What happens if any of those states wants federal cooperation for anything? I'm sure they'll want their cake and eat it too.

Couldn't the whole thing be rendered moot anyway if Trump just said that the states can decide on their own when to open up?

Yes. After he spent the first few weeks saying shutdowns were up to the states too, the fact he changed his mind and went full "I AM THE AUTHORITY" is a bit bizzare.

They will cry over election returns and point fingers.

These are generals. These aren't revolutionaries. They're barely politicians.
What about the guy who is currently president? All it took was some chink lab to release airborne aids for it all to come undone.

Owning the libs by giving everyone airborne aids and dissolving the union.

My mother just got me a slot via her supermarket delivery. They are vulnerable, but it's interesting to know they can send out to other addresses. Thanks mum.

She has a nurse living next door. They have been in the hot tub in the back garden all weekend. Having a party.

They have a visceral hatred for each other.

Anyway, if nursey gets infected...

I'm stocked up pretty good. All my fresh veg has gone off. I've cooked what I can, but this is the cut off point. I can't get any more untiil a new delivery. A few weeks. So I won't starve. I think this will level out.

The bloke that lives upstairs from me has only been going out even more. I don't think he likes being locked in. He's been finding places to go out to every day. I think he's still working. Just hours cut down.

Most people are not observing lock down. Police are no where to be found. Propaganda is doing a good job though of keeping most people in line.

The more this goes on the more weird it gets.

I don't think Boris got the fever. I think it was a stunt. And a bad one at that. Guess he didn't die from it. That would have been a bit of a bugger, eh? After all that publicity and what not. But at the end of the day, what a coup! He overcame! And was risen!

Maybe he did get it. I don't know.

Just by this point they are playing about with us like cattle in a field.

Eat well. Live well. Look after your closest and dearest.

I thought that was his schtick though--saying and tweeting random and contradictory things, then when everyone is confused he takes action/does something no one expected. He also likes to hear himself talk so I guess he gets lost in his own rhetoric at times.

I think he kind of lost the plot today. Trump has been all about the states taking the lead, so why get bent out of shape when they do exactly that?

If NY and the Tri-state area are confident about being able to start reopening (IMO the fact they talking about it means they're gonna start moving ASAP, especially if no aid for lost revenue is yet forthcoming from the Feds) how is that a bad thing for Trump?

Let them do their thing, and use the federal resources to backstop the areas that don't have the medical infrastructure the northeast or any major urban areas has.

LOL Trump is literally playing campaign commercials at his press conference. I can't love this man any more than I do. What an original.
For those who missed it:

Jim Acosta was not amused, as usual.

Couldn't find this info in the thread. Shortages in key meds used for patients that are ventilated announced by the FDA. (i.e. Dexmedetomidine, Etomidate, Midazolam, Propofol, Cisatracurium)

View attachment 1227813
Details can be found here under the new and updated tab:

(archive doesn't work on the main hub of the FDA Drug Shortage website for some odd reason, as in tabs don't work. here it is anyway: http://archive.li/WkbIF)

A select few companies DO supply the drugs fine, at least according to the FDA, but I can only think of the price gouging.
Propofol is used to help put people under before surgery, and as an anasthetic during inubation. Shortage due to the ventilators?
