Villains that are better than the Hero.

The books were written 35 to 40 years ago. Neither side is shown as entirely Good or Evil, and mostly are concerned with achieving dominance in a power struggle against each other with humans caught in the middle. In D&D terms it's Lawful Neutral vs Chaotic Neutral.
In the time periods presented under the rule of Chaos the humans create a might makes right tyranny for themselves and the gods refuse to intervene, and under Order the humans are given a heavily strictured society that becomes stagnant with no recourse.
During Order's rule the general populace that considers it 'Good' due so out of ignorance, and during Chaos's rule the general populace that considers it 'Evil' does so due to the treatment from fellow humans who choose to cause suffering.

It's such a fucking sin that in Kingdom Hearts she became nothing more than a side character after the first game. KH3 was the most disappointing of all, because all she did was go treasure hunting with Pete. They should have made her the villain for the entire series and skipped all this "Nobodies/Xehanort" crap.

There's a reason why so many wrestlers relish a heel turn: it allows them to have some more creative freedom.
Plus, they have the responsibility of making the faces look good. It's what sells the match.

Hellishly understated.
Tenma's story isn't as compelling without the ramifications Johan's actions had on him. Not to mention that is BECAUSE of Johan's movement does the plot proceed. The scale of the psychological damage that Johan leaves in his wake to those who encounter him only reveals itself to the audience as the story progresses.

If we're going to use wrestling in this discussion, John Cena was almost always the lamer one of the two when compared to the heel he was working with. Edge, CM Punk, Randy Orton, Batista, Chris Jericho, Triple H, Bray Wyatt...its a long list.

I mean I could either root for the bad guy that has something cool about them, or I could root for the pandering doofus good guy whose ridiculous merchandise makes him look like a road sign.

In Fire Emblem Three Houses Rhea was honestly better done than any of the lords as a "grey" figure. To sum it all up, she's really the only one among them whose actions are not glanced over or absent depending on route (see Edel's actions as the Flame Emperor) and doesn't get outright condemned or framed as "good" if you join her.

In Legend of Korra, Kuvira was much more worthy than Korra. She might've been a Hitler/Mao stand-in but she recognized the big problems in her society and worked to fix them. Korra was just wallowing in self-pity and working with the likes of a war profiteer, a spoiled prince, and a rich ruler who scarred her sister.

The Replicas in F.E.A.R just OOZE personality and character compared to "Angry bullet timer dude" Point Man. I've always wanted a spin off where you play as a Replica and just blast dudes with a team of Replica buddies, kinda like Republic Commando.

Like seriously, listen to their voicelines here; they make something as mundane as "He's behind the wall" sound awesome.


Best mooks in a vidya, if you ask me.

He lasts only one episode, but he's clear, honest with the fact he's a monster and just wants to kill and die, without any of Alucard's excessive boasting and overall personality that make him cool but boring in the long run.
He's funny as hell and dies in an awesome way, unlike many other, allegedly more powerful villains (in the manga they even say he's one of the weakest vampires of Millenium, yet he almost destroys Hellsing) who talk high and die like bitches like his faux Sephiroth brother or the scarred tattoed female vampire.
And let's be clear, if this guy didn't make you piss off laughing then you have never really watched Hellsing.

Believe it or not, The secret society that is trying to save every living being in the galaxy of being annihilated from a group of genocidal robots that hate all organic life is, in fact, the EVIL faction you should hate.

The "heroes" include an old man that only cares to be the cheerleader of the woman that almost killed everyone in the galaxy, a woman that murdered her husband and then had sex with a guy she just had met, an elf that likes to decapitate the very people trying to save the galaxy, a woman so annoying and self-centered even her son can't stand her, a previously socially awkward but intellectual woman that now is a depressed alcoholic that thinks pacifism and forgiveness are lame, and a captain that is a poor man's Han solo stereotype that only cares about money and sex.

Thanks for reminding me about the absolute worst protagonist in fiction history, Korra.

In addition to Kuvira, fucking Zaheer was the most interesting and likable character to not only come out of that show, but the Avatar universe in my opinion. I really wanted him to succeed in suffocating Korra and going about his plan to crumble this broken world.
At least he never died. And he even did get a good scene in Book 4, but man, he's literally the only reason I choose to keep that series in my collection at all.

Speaking of Trek, how has no one said those dang dirty Trump--Klingons in STD?

The whole dynamic is so utterly poorly conceived, that anyone who both watches the series or gets a cursory explanation of it immediately says "Well, the Klingons have a good point."

Keep in mind, they're supposed to be the villains, and not only that, but the show runners flat out admitted they are stand-ins for Trump Supporters in the modern age. And guess which side they lean on and wanted the entire message of the show to be about?
