In my opinion, the countries in that whole region are fucked. Talking Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, Burma. Pakistan, India, Bangladesh very densely populated, medical systems, as such, will be overwhelmed. Iran, Afghanistan, Nepal, Bhutan, Burma, while not as densely populated, have weak or rudimentary medical systems, again easily overwhelmed. Also, in many of these countries there are a lot of undernourished people whose systems won't be able to resist the virus well, if at all. Been happening for a while in Iran. May already be happening in the other countries. No way are they not going to get hit hard.

College loans are on forbearance until September. Most banks are willing to work something out with their customers, ASSUMING that the customer has good standing (do you want me to bend over and cry for those that aren't because 'how could we have prevented this?') and get relief in the form of deferred payments or payment plans beyond what is expected. Food pantries exist and are constantly crying for donations, and the national guard is there to serve at food pantries. Utility companies will also work with those in good standing. All of those examples you listed can be dealt with on a granular level and based on the individual's standing. Anyone who lets themselves get swallowed in the torrent kind of fucking deserves it. Anyone who thinks that this crisis means "sit at home and figure it out when I'm given the command" deserves every bad thing coming their way - it's not my fault they're so smoothbrained that they fail to adapt.

You can whine "doomer" all you want but the reality is, most of yours and mine countrymen are downright idiots that need to be told exactly how fast to run and how high to jump. People are excited for a $1,200 check and mutterings of "maybe we can go back to normal soon" - not exactly a high standard I desire to be associated with. I hope you're ready for Phase 2: Death Boogaloo. You're placing so much trust on the shoulders of others to do right by you that it's kind of cute.

"Forbearance" is delaying a loan or actions on said loan, not forgiving it. People still have to make those payments, and when you lose 1/3rd of your income for the year there isnt much working out a bank can do with you unless you live WAY below your means. You can whinge on about how everyone who doesnt live like you is irresponsible, but most people didnt think the government was going to forcibly shut the economy down for months. People are not thinking "sit at home and figure it out when I'm given the command", they want to FIX SHIT, thats why they want things opened. You, OTOH, seem to quite enjoy "sit at home and figure it out when I'm given the command" given you want the government to continue to shut things down when hospitals are 95% empty and continued evidence comes out driving the true death rate lower and lower every week, and you are upset that people want to get things moving so they can fix their situation.

Again, you seem to miss the fact that "working with people to pay their bills" doesnt work when the people have no work to pay bills with. "pay 12 months worth of expenses with 8 months of income because the government forcibly put you out of work and shut the economy down" is not a contingency that most would ever think of happening, such actions are unprecedented. Even during the Spanish flu the government didnt force statewide lockdown for 2 months on end.

The only Phase 2: Death Boogaloo should be you unloading two shotgun shells into your empty head. Perhaps those "smooth-brained" countrymen could expedite this and get your doomer ass out of the state you hate so much. I'm sure they wont miss your patronizing attitude nor your disdain for them.

Turns out one of the research grants approved by Canada in January is a collaberation between Canadian Food Safety Inspection Agency, the University of Alberta, and the Wuhan Insititute of Virology, the suspected source of the COVID-19 outbreak. Additionally, there are reports coming out that on January 14th, if not earlier, the Wuhan government was made aware that human to human transmission was possible.

Later I checked and apparently indeed since chalk is common for the blackboards they use for organization some prisons had to go as far as replacing them with whiteboards to stop the chalk black market. News from Connecticut:

-We reached over 1k deaths today, we're now at 1,036 with 16,809 infections

-Gov. Lamont signed an order today requiring face coverings in public spaces. Most people are already wearing them in the stores, not so much outside, although from what I see people are pretty good about keeping their distance.

-40% of the deaths in the state have been in nursing homes

- people still go to parks and beaches all the time and I haven't heard of anyone getting shit for it. The state parks are still open but are only allowing half capacity in. People are pretty good about staying spaced out.

-reopening will be revisited on May 20th. In some regions (I assume the more rural ones) schools may be reopened. I have no idea if people will put up with this. It doesn't effect me much as I still work either way.

-presidential primaries have been postponed from April 28 to August 11.

-just an observation, but besides the elderly, this seems to be hitting blacks especially hard. I haven't seen any statistics yet, but a lot of my black coworkers have lost family members or have family that are in the ICU. This doesn't surprise me as diabetes and high blood pressure are a big issue here, I am always shocked by how many people I work with have the beetus.
