Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

Why is no one discussing this? This thread is moving too fast for its own good.
I'm inclined to think this is fake. Some one from r/wuhan_flu claimed to have checked the who employee list and couldn't find any one on the leaked list.
Also when you hack places like those, how do you find the relevant emails in such a short period of time? They must have tons of day to day innocuous emails.
Because there's a thread for that.

resign.

I wonder what the political situation at the who is like. We know teddy got the job in a very hard fight against and canadian doctor. who was a real doctor.

Are all the people under him gonna stand next to him or will they all turn on him saying that it was just one man who did this and not a group of self serving asses. like that doctor that couldnt talk about taiwan.

Most likely there are some damming emails or something else thats gonna come out or already s been handed over, but its amazing to watch a man be soo politically stupid. The minute shit started to fall apart and the second the powers that be started to look at the WHO he should have resigned so the next fucker would be in the hot seat, hell he shoulda ran straight to daddy trump with a usb drive detailing his marching orders from china in exchange for a new identity and a job at waffle house.

Victor Davis Hansen, from Stanford, talking about ramifications of Covid-19. He's a historian who lived through the Hong Kong Flu, has some good perspective on what's going on nationally with testing and internationally with China's reputation.

TL;DR China has lost all credibility, we're at the start of a new Cold War. Also, there are a lot of tests.

This came up on 4chan, claimed it resulted from the Wuhan Labs hack. While I don't believe a word of it, what do we know about Dr. Zhengli Shi?

So. Since this apparently is way more infectious than we thought, but the whole asymptomatic thing is screwing things up...

What, exactly, is the R0 value then? 15? 20?

Seems too on the nose, but this is 2020 in the Era of God Emperor Trump, and Based Dilbert Merchant's explanations that we're in a simulation are starting to look pretty fucking reasonable at this point.

The QR code thing is only in Moscow, which means nobody of value is affected by it anyway. I live in Russia, but not Moscow, and have been leaving my house every day for the past 2 months without any issues. I ride my motorcycle on the weekends, go to get gas, go to the store, etc.

Good attempt but I would suggest reading more than 1 post on 4chan before making a news post.
Ok, I have edited my post to this effect and specified the city. Been checking Russian corona developments on https://t.me/moscowmap (Moscow news) channel, should have really been more careful in verifying, that it applies only to Moscow - my Russian is very rusty and do not remember half the vocabulary.

Check out another video I found from Russia - a man gets forcibly removed from bus for not wearing a mask by the police!

Yeah.

Here's the other rumor I heard about her. Professionally, before all this started, she was working on a coronavirus as a way to deliver a vaccine for AIDS in Africa. Supposed to build up the immune system.

No reason to think it's true, but thinking about the Chinese doctor who was gene-editing patients with CRISPR last year. There are no IRBs in China, not in the same way we have in the West. They're more about approving research papers pre-publication, make sure they don't include embarrassing details about methods. This offers a lot more room to carry out field tests, conduct uncontrolled experiments in the wild. That's how He Jainkui was able to get away with it, he only got in trouble after China was embarrassed internationally, no one would have cared otherwise.

Doing a field test on a coronavirus thought to be completely safe, with no oversight, could happen. Not saying it did, but that there's nothing to prevent it.

I feel like there is more Hanlon's Razor to this.
I think state governors and city mayors just fucking freaked when cases started spiking and the media turned from "its just a flu, bro" to "THE NEXT BUBONIC PLAGUE!" they all collectively gave a knee-jerk reaction and started closing things down. Now that they committed to the action, they just don't have an exit strategy.

I mean I'm sure there are some galaxy-brained faggots giggling "lol destroy the economy to own Drumpf!" currently in office, but I really think this is more hubris and stupidity than a well-coordinated plot to get Trump out of office.
I think that the calculation by most politicians was “My risk of shutting down when I didn’t need to is substantially less and much easier to spin than not shutting down and thousands of my constituents dying.” Plus, let’s be real: most of these people have been waiting for the day they can be in charge during a crisis and put oppressive measures on their citizens. With the way politics is in most western democracies, only the greedy and power hungry would want a job that involves being universally hated and blamed for just about everything.

What happens when people over 50 realize that they will never have another job again?
That the younger and cheaper people will get called back to work while they never do?
All because Governors issued statewide shutdown orders they really don't have to authority to issue. Remember that dude on Tucker who said he didn't even consider the Bill Of Rights?

The coming shitshow is going to be amazing.

Yeah....this is literally how 28 days later started. A bunch of animals being given a modified virus to try and cure some other condition that backfired horrifically.

Ofcourse "rage infected chimps who are unwittingly unleashed by animal rights activists because they didnt know what they were dealing with" is a hell of a lot more dignified than "aids infected bats who sneeze on the janitor who then infects the local deli because he didnt wash his fucking hands"

Well, this rumour low-key makes sense. If your deliberately grown and seeded virus kills all the immunocompromised people, the immunity of the herd increases.

Following video demonstrates, that the age-old tried and tested tactic of escaping the lions can also be utilized in the Chinese communist plague pandemic situation. Pedal faster than the sacrificial female, when the fuzz is trying to demand your papers.

People over 50 will still have jobs.

America did something weird in the late 90s, we decided a bunch of people deserved to have their jobs sent overseas because they were low-tech. One of the myths of globalism is that it was all about costs, which isn't exactly true. Early offshoring efforts were almost always unprofitable, it took more than a decade for the economy to realize meagre savings above the cost of taking away people's jobs.

It's not that China has screwed the pooch so bad that now all those jobs are coming back to America. It's more that there's no longer a reason to assume building wealth for Communists will liberalize the nation. They're not our friends, but also: you can't take a bunch of peasants, give them the latest and greatest, and expect them to act responsibly. It just doesn't happen.

Moving supply chains to other countries, onshoring some industries that are vital to national security, working on infrastructure / manufacturing projects, that's going to require people who grew up before this economic fiasco we call globalism started. Not to sound too harsh, but the vision of the world sold to Millennials sometimes stands in the way of them doing the best for themselves. It's not a good idea to rely on them to build... whatever it is that comes next.

Why would a business struggling to stay alive and reopen bring back the 50 year old rather than the cheaper 35-40 year old?
It's a perfect excuse to dump the higher paid older employees and move everybody else up a level.
You assume older workers make more money.

That's not always the case, especially in anything technical. The ceiling for programmers prime earning years is late 30s, while the average age of a programmer goes up every year.
