Diseased #Comicsgate - The Culture Wars Hit The Funny Books!

Ya Boi has given the rare video blessing to an indiegogo project that is not his own. He usually hates these war stories, but having an actual war vet write the story changed his tune. Also he's getting a bit hyped up about Todd telling the industry to get to back to work since you know, they can work in their home with no issue to put out shit no problem

It'll be a little interesting to see how the Zack bump does compared to the EVS bump considering he really seems interested in this book

That's a very niche product, I'm guess it's not going to be flooded with backers. But who knows.

Micah doesn't seem like a terrible guy but for the life of me I never understood why Ethan has him on his livestreams. He's just not that interesting.
I remember watching some of his videos in the early days. He comes of as a dude that tries to be decent, but he is so worried he will do/is doing something wrong that he is constantly navel gazing.
And lacks both the charisma (Zack, JSG, EVS) or the grift (YF, TUG) to make it on CG.

Love the "Comictropes" tribute intro.

For those who do not know comictropes, it is a youtube channel that recently exploded in popularity. The owner, Chris, is not CG and did weekly videos for years.
Once upon a time, he did a one hour analysis on why Civil War II sukced:

And this is my gripe with OG comicsgaters. They were pretty much saying the same stuff. However, they were so focused on zero-effort daily outrage esjaydoublyou videos they never (ok, Professor Geek and David Steward were probably exceptions, but they are ACTUAL writers) touched upon what was the problems with esjaydoublyoumarvel.
That made them look like conservative fools crying because people did not like their Orange Man and that they hated minorities.

And with dumb thought leaders like that, expect the masses to be even dumber.
Zack and JSG can consistently throw in some insightful criticisms about comics. They know the medium and they still care about it.
This is why I still follow them (but I am getting tired of JSG doing more CG videos nowadays and Zack getting cabin fever from being told to social distance like he was doing already on his own).

That's a very niche product, I'm guess it's not going to be flooded with backers. But who knows.
Once upon a time Zack made a video about an obscure artsy graphic novel about russian history. It went out of stock on Amazon on the same day.
The thing is, Zack has an audience of comicbook readers that want to buy books, regardless of fractions.
This was his big success and why Marvel artists and editors went to war against him: he became popular to their core audience, the comic book buyers.
So, being endorsed by Zack taps on a different audience than EVS streams do.

So Preston Poulter released a video on his trademarking Comicsgate move:

There was a little salt in the comments section, but not a great deal.

This guy posted and JSG responded, of all the content creators JSG seems the easiest to be baited with this whole nontroversy, which is unusual behavior from him.

It doesn't matter but I'm totally going to comment telling you why none of this matters.

Guess why we know why his called COPEnhagen Dreaming.

Apparently Cridious plans on challenging Preston for the trademark while these users correctly point out his broke. Also Sweetcast made a video about hiring lawyers to take on Preston?

Darth Merlin is all over the comments section.

And then theres this guy I've seen around, but it is accused of being a CG sock account.

So not a great deal of salt, but there are clearly some in CG who are a bit butthurt about Prestons move. Just Some Guy, Sweetcast and Liam Gray all seem to be coping in their own ways. It's still early days so we'll just have to wait and see how this all plays out.

Bets on yet another CG lawsuit?

I'd just like to note that for days, The Hut had been trying to get JSG's attention through Twitter to rile up some drama videos for clicks, but JSG hasn't expressed a single interest in it. In fact, he said he had plenty of other shit to do, and that he's "busy". Then, the moment Preston breaks the news that he has the trademark, JSG's so called "busy schedule" crumbled and he made a video instantly. I find this whole ordeal hilarious, because it simply confirms Hut's near lolcow status as well. He's just as bad as how EVS is, considering he calls himself (when no one does) "the people's champion". Think he might be the Micah of so called "anti-CG".

Mostly agree, I would say Comic Book Hut is more analogous to TUG than Micah.

- Funny accent
- Wears gay mask
- Giant lolcow
- Clickbait thumbnails presented in serif font
- Presents self as news source citing secret/anonymous sources, usually wrong
- Rambling unfocused stream-of-consciousness video style
- People actually click his videos for some reason

All of those things can't be said about Micah except for the lolcow aspect.

I was mostly going more along the lines of how Hut's probably the lowest of them all, but you're definitely right, since he did shit on TUG pretty badly (you gotta fight something with the equivalent of it right?). So... would if be fair to categorize Hut as a fusion of TUG and Micah? Since Hut also is pretty much a yes man, although, seems like he's more aggressive version of one.

Even there, Micah Curtis is a Comicsgate apparatchik motivated by fear of expulsion whereas Comic Book Hut is soulless golem being operated by "The Shadow"/the ex-Nerkish discord to perform their bidding. I doubt "anti-CG" is either big or authoritative enough to merit a Micah-analogue.

I'm actually interested myself. The issue is it looks like it's going to be a cat smacker since 20 pages is considered halfway done. I'm not in the fucking mood to pay 25 for that plus shipping.

If it was doubled? Sure. But not 25 fucking dollars.

Pretty much why I stopped getting CG books, aside from just lack of general interest. I think the last one I backed was Longharbour and that's not even outwardly CG, but the artist does amazing design.

I just don't have the money or care anymore to pay upwards of 35 for a book, I'll read once and then never revisit. (If I even read it once. Lonestar. )

Yeah and I am surprised that out of all the big names in CG that JSG seems to be the most interested in this. I would have put money on TUG or even EVS since he led the charge on Vox Day, but everyone else is staying relatively quiet about it. Very odd

I'm on the fence about it myself. I'm gonna wait and see if any perks pop up that make it worth the price. He is only charging 5 bucks for shipping compared to other campaigns, which is nice I suppose. But I just checked and he's also doing that across the board for ALL regions which probably isn't a good idea if he gets a lot of overseas buyers. Gonna have another Bigfoot Bill situation if he's unlucky

That's the real issue with me and all these crowdfunding projects.

I was paying 2.99 - 3.99 for 24-25 pages back when I was buying floppies. That's roughly 10 cents to 20 cents per page.

To me, if you're charging 25 bucks not including shipping, then these 'books' need to be at least 150-200+ pages. Nobody is doing that as far as I can tell.

Everyone is saying crowdfunding is the future of comics, but right now it's still a grift due to the drama stirred up online. And that's a grift done by everyone, not just comicsgate.

Pulido gets away with it for me because I like cheesecake and the swag makes up for a good deal of it.

Also, I watched some Comictropes @A nameless trool called out, pretty good shit - it was nice seeing a review of a comic without 10 minutes of dad talk before getting to "It's bad."

ComicTropes is good people. He’s mildly funny, but very informative. Sometimes he veers into soy territory, like the video where he portrayed Gail Simone bullying her editor in a positive light, but his videos are good shit more times than not.

I believe Eric Weathers' Flying Fortess is over 200+ pages for $30. Tennaple's books are $25 tricked out hardcovers in the 160 page range with tuns of extra swag.

Not sure if anyone else people associate with CG/exCG is offering a decent page count/extras that make it worthwhile but Tennaple and Weathers would be two anyway.
