"Current year" terms that piss you off

I’m sure these have all been mentioned, but just about slang co-opted from black twitter, or from flaming gay men. “Yaaaas” and “bae” make me irrationally angry, because they’ve oozed out into real life. I can't stand "thicc", either.

When it comes to words that I hate more for their meaning, “shaming” is at the top of the list. I’m a big believer in the old quote that nobody can make you feel inferior without your consent: If you’re not already ashamed of what you’re doing in some capacity, then why would you feel that way just because somebody else doesn’t like it? There’s a certain irony to it, too, because people who use it unironically want seem to want others to feel ashamed for having their own opinions.

Another big one is sheer amount of shit that has just been gratuitously lifted from therapy and self-help circles and absolutely abused to death like “toxic” and "self care" and “valid”. Especially any form of “valid”. Combined with shaming, it just illustrates this bizarre pathological need for social approval that some people seem to have.

I also hate “mood” and “big mood” and I don’t know why. These kids need to get off my lawn.

Calling everything that makes you slightly uncomfortable “Toxic.” It’s basically a freepass for the new generation of softies to label anything they remotely dislike as inherently evil. I don’t think people understand quite how much power is actually in this term. Toxicity implies something objectively horrible that everyone should stay away from and dispose of immediately. It inspires feelings of fear, disgust and hatred. No one wants to be near something toxic.

99% of this shit comes from Twitter.

I really dislike the word 'problematic' nowadays, and how people use it to handwave away things they don't like without seeming to give a second thought or want to discuss.

I work in education in Korea and last year on a lot of social media a lot of English teachers were going off about 'White supremacy in English education' and their wanting to 'decolonize Korean education' and lots of complaints of abuse, but always too vague to be actionable. It was my first direct contact with 'SJW' culture, and I have to admit it was surreal. But with the new year and the Wuhan Flu, they've all seemed to have left Korea. It is just the regular old assholes who are stuck figuring out the current education situation.

I know its not a term, but I still don't like the Floss dance. It just looks disturbing to me.

Flossing is even in the Spyro 2 remake. Thanks for making me regret finishing a side mission, game.

Folks in most contexts irritates me. A lot of Southern and Appalachian slang is pretty much tainted now thanks to progs.

Accessibility was getting there during the Sekiro "controversy". Seems actual disabled people were able to shut that down before it got out of hand. Accessibility should mean colorblind mode and customizable keybindings, not journalist mode.

"Corona-Chan"

Tbh I'm growing more annoyed by "coof" and all iterations thereof.

But I actively despise "the rona". It sounds like something out of an episode of fucking Rocket Power. You know, the kind of cringey word they would flash in your face for emphasis once someone uttered it. Saying or typing "Corona" would take you even less nerve impulses.

And while we're at it, every community manager, journalist and copywriter who is still getting paid yet decides to preface their piece of wasted bandwidth with "In these uncertain times..." deserves their fate once this shitfest is over.

"Died by suicide" instead of "committed suicide".

This completely erases the horrifying nature of suicide in that it's self-inflicted.

I can see the argument that "committed suicide" implies the view of it as a sin or even criminal act, that you "commit" a bad act, and you don't want to refer to it in a way that puts judgment on the dead, especially because of how that can be upsetting to their family.

But we could always just toughen up and say "killed themselves."

I'm starting to like Simp less and less because it's falling into the exact same pitfall whiteknight/cuck/soyboy did where it just went from the specific "guy that puts pussy on a pedestal" definition until it turns into the wide net of "person I don't like". Just wait in another 2-4 years and it'll get old and be replaced by another word, scrub, rinse, repeat

"Sealioning". That means if you politely ask people to back up their claims with evidence, you're actually participating in a grand conspiracy to harass them because there's no way you could possibly disagree and it's "not their job to educate you". Cause what the fuck is burden of proof right?
Anyone that dismisses others who ask to back up their claims as “sealioning” is being intellectually dishonest. The funny thing is, is that the people who accuse others of it often tout themselves as “intellectuals”, but can’t be bothered to do a basic thing intellectuals should be able to do.

As cringy as Idubbbz is and especially since his fiasco with his girlfriend's OnlyFans, I'm sick and fucking tired of everyone calling him a "simp." He's in a committed relationship with a woman and presumably has sex regularly: that's by definition NOT what a simp is. A "simp" would be some pathetic virgin whiteknights or neckbeards who kowtow to females, especially male feminists who preach about muh toxic masculinity or believe people who don't like Captain Marvel are problematic.

I'm also sick of how people are calling him a cuckold because his girlfriend sells lewd content. I've debated this on social media a dozen times, and it's like arguing with a brick wall. People are dead seriously convinced that his girlfriend's OnlyFans is tantamount to her having sex with men while Ian willfully watches. People even argue the slippery slope fallacy and believe it's only a matter of days until she steps up to hardcore porn.

gender theory, pedophile acceptance
I use the word "sex" instead of "gender" because the latter was a prudish alternative, and was then made popular by John Money.

Money was supposedly a sick freak who proposed sex change as a "treatment" for a child with an injured penis, and he made the poor boy -- who later killed himself -- and his brother do some sick stuff. It seems Money was the one who popularized the word "gender" and also launched the Current Year "transgender" craze.

So yeah, I use "sex" instead of "gender."
