Trump Derangement Syndrome - Orange man bad. Read the OP! (ᴛʜɪs ᴛʜʀᴇᴀᴅ ɪs ʟɪᴋᴇ ᴋɪᴡɪ ғᴀʀᴍs ʀᴇᴠɪᴇᴡs ɴᴏᴡ) 🗿🗿🗿🗿

We will see at the end of all of this. Part of the herd immunity strategy is that the bad times will be condensed rather than spread out. Sweden might be suffering a higher rate now but they might also functionally clear this and get out of the woods much much sooner than everyoen else.
A lot of the woke left is heaping praise and going all 'Slayyyy Queen!' on Jacinda Arden for New Zealand having basically negligible cases. But all that means is that once the world opens back up, they are sitting ducks because they will have near zero collective immunity.

This is one thing I don't understand about the people who think the US should have shut down in January or February. We would have been shut down when the rest of the world wasn't and would still be shut down now because the rest of the world is shut down.

New Zealand will be getting hit with a large wave of cases once asymptomatic people from all over the world start making contact with them again. But the difference is that the world isn't gonna come to a stop just because New Zealand is getting hammered.

There's no point of shutting down unless there's a critical mass of other places shutting down. Otherwise all you are doing is dramatically increasing the time spent shut down.

"...he can't hide dead bodies"

11/10 for the unintentional self-own.

The number of COVID deaths compared to the known recovered rate can only ever be the maximum mortality rate. It is literally in the best interest of everyone in the pro-open back up camp to get more testing out because it proves that this thing is not as lethal as advertised.
I am quite certain that if Trump could wave his magic president wand and make logistics disappear and give everyone a test then he would do so.

There's a term for this and that term is "comorbidity."

A big part of the goal of controlling the spread of infection is to keep the infection from spreading to vulnerable populations. That's why they've been harping on the elderly, the infirm and the diabetic. When you adopt a herd immunity strategy, you give up the measures that let those vulnerable populations protect themselves and, as a result, more people die.
1) Herd immunity is how vaccines work.
2) Technically speaking, every society adopts herd immunity strategies just because that's how they function. If you don't, you end up like the first americans and there is no society. It would probably be more accurate to distinguish between a "rapid adoption" strategy vs a "stall & slow adoption" strategy. (though I'm not married to the terms, open to suggestions)
3) Given the interconnectedness of modern society, it's a bit of a lark to think the lockdown is doing much for the vulnerable people. There's so many possible spread vectors even with simple food delivery - hence why almost all the models were still assuming virus spread with maximum isolation & distancing procedures in place. (That every model has way over estimated the result should be a clear sign things were off.)

Not saying the Italian method of "hug a chinaman" was better but there should be some discussion of a middle ground.

I also like how he admits that Trump says that it might not work at the ~2:10 mark, but still rolls along with the song because "Fuck DRUMPFFFF!".

This is like a repeat of the Sarah Palin "I can see Russia from my porch" thing. It's not what she said but it's what they repeated over and over till it became an unshakeable article of faith to the Left. I remember a conversation with someone who was adamant she said it. Went back and forth and I ended up actually finding the original comment, would take them literally ten seconds to hear it and they refused because they "didn't need to see it." The utter smugness of people like this is unbelievable. They just cannot admit they are wrong. Literally cannot.

The most vulnerable people are crammed together in nursing homes and assisted living facilities, which are being slammed hard with Covid cases and a sky high share of deaths, even in the middle of a shut-down quarantine. (and more, and more, and more)

Even with a whole planet's worth of PPE, precautions, and supplies, it's logistically impossible to prevent Covid spread in such places. A harsh, uncaring risk assessment might have looked at the odds and decided against a quarantine that wouldn't save them, but would shut down the entire economy of healthy people who could shrug off mass infection just fine.

It might literally be true that we triggered an economic depression not to save old people's lives, but just so we wouldn't feel guilty about their unpreventable deaths. So that government wouldn't "feel guilty", i.e. get blamed for it.

But Trump represents the government, so he gets the blame anyway. Worst of both worlds.

Nah, if the death rate get's too low certain parties will just go back and reclassify deaths that couldn't of been COVID as COVID. New yorks already done it twice and people are chomping at the bit to blame Trump for the virus so it's pretty likely a blue state will reclasify deaths that occured 6-8 months ago as covid not only to add to their numbers but claim we caused it.

Mark Shea is such a faggot.
He has a whole fucking saga where he gets blown the fuck out by an actual Catholic philosopher whose blog I read often. It's so embarrassing and idiotic, you don't even have to read all of it just one or two of them and you get the point about how this guy really doesn't understand Catholic orthodoxy.
Maybe this is old, but fucking lmao:
Mark Shea is what you get when you marry the letter of Catholicism to the spirit and style of New Atheist polemic. Take your average rant from one of Coyne’s or P. Z. Myers’ teenage combox dwellers and replace the shrill and superficial secularist content with some shrill and superficial theology, and you essentially have your typical Shea blog post or Facebook entry. Very different targets, but the same venom. Though at one time he devoted his efforts to writing helpful works of popular apologetics, Shea has in recent years become utterly obsessed with left-wing politics, and with demonizing any of his fellow Catholics who do not share his politics. And unlike Coyne, he is no longer even occasionally interesting. He has a little bag of talking points, epithets, and caricatures he’s mostly borrowed from others (“Right Wing Noise Machine,” “Christianist,” etc., Always All In Caps) and robotically pulls one or two out of the bag and flings them at whichever person is the object of his hatred on any particular day. Snore.

Not so much...

Sweden is getting fucked way harder than any of it's neighbors because they're treating this more like people treated the Spanish Flu ie: downplay our outright ignore it.

Edit: This is very preliminary right now but countries that seem to be going for a herd immunity strategy are getting higher death rates. I'd wager that this is due to the fact that countries such as Sweden without stringent measures in place are less able to keep it out of vulnerable populations. So no, Shaka, their strategy isn't working better than their neighbors.
Has anyone ever calculated the deaths to confirmed cases ratio here to compare death rates? Because either numbers are being fudged somewhere, or Sweden apparently has absolutely godawful health in general.

Sweden: 2274 / 18926 = 12.02% death rate
Norway: 202 / 7527 = 2.68% death rate
Denmark: 427 / 8698 = 4.91% death rate

Hard to say. Biden was always going to look like a deranged elderly man and be easy to attack, but it does play havoc with the DNC internally, even if those people would never vote for Trump anyway.
The allegations are starting to become more serious now. A neighbor recently revealed Reade told her that Biden raped her in 1993.

Seriously, I hope Trump brings Reade to the debates like he did with Clinton’s

Are they aware that tests don't stop people from dying?
At best, no, at worst yes.

Either way, they won't care if you correct them, since they're willfully ignorant and are dishonest. They also are still on occasion trying to revive "muh russia" and are panic screaming about the bleach thing to block out Rapey Joe.

Fun thing to do (per the Dilbert merchant) is to take a transcript of the contentious statement (Palin's Russia thing or Trump's fine people quote) and ask them to read it out loud. Guaranteed they won't be able to do it.
