Someone recently asked me about why everyone was overreacting over how bad the Yansim code was because they didn't have any knowledge about coding, and the Kappa analogy about making an essay turned out to be surprisingly useful to try explain it in "real world" terms. Below is what I sent:

Imagine you have a group of people writing an essay or doing a project (students need behaviour). They need to get information from a bunch of books in order to write out the essay (know what to do).

The normal process would be to go to a library that has one copy of the book (shared library / base class), and the people check it out to get information from it (inherit). If it turns out there's an error, you can just amend that one book.

What yansim does is the same as if instead every single student is issued a codex which literally contains every single piece of information the human race has ever discovered about the working world. To get the information they need, they need to scan through this colossal tome to get to passage number 28345; On The Matters Of What Hair Colour Big Booby Student 341 Should Have, and copy that one passage out. They then proceed to fucking burn that book, and the next time they need another piece of information, they get a whole codex issued to them again. Their essay needs a lot of info, so they do this roughly, ooh, 30 times per second (that's a lot of burning and fetching books), for as long as they naturally live.

And of course, if it turns out there was a critical mistake in Passage 38412; Stipulations And Assertions Of The Bust Size Of Student 82, you need to make sure every single codex everyone has has been updated with the new info but there is no central copy. Make a mistake and at best you get weird stuff like someone has a bust size of 4,294,967,295cm, at worst the whole universe stops.

It's surprisingly hard to articulate just how much wrong shit there is in a way that doesn't just sound like programmer abstract elitism (compared to this which is just autistic analogies).

The format given isn't a bad one. At my school, when we learned about how to give a critique that was actually what was brought up. However, it's not the only valid way of critiquing. Limiting people to just that format isn't going to work. Not everyone went to a form of art school that teaches, nor will some ever go to one. I would say it's constructive as long as they give a way to improve on it, whether it's ideas or linking to a tutorial for something. In this case it would be a tutorial for code, or a gameplay mechanic to either improve or replace the current one.

Compliment critique compliment can be reduced to having just one compliment at the beginning of the end and have the same effect of not coming off like you're just trashing someone's work. But I would say as long as you're not outright insulting the work and are offering some way to improve, you can get away without complimenting.

TL;DR
That form of critiquing is a good one, but to only allow critiques if they are in that format is stupid.
