The Last of Us Franchise - Because it's apparently a franchise now. This thread has been double-DMCA’d by Sony Interactive Entertainment.

modest little shows like Chernobyl were getting a lot of love and attention because it tried to tell an earnest story without shitting on anyone or "subverting expectations".
[groan] You just made me imagine an alternate-universe version of Chernobyl where a strong lesbian feminist womyn humiliates all the male pigs running the plant by preventing the explosion and single-handedly finishing the test, replaces Yeltsin as the Soviet Premiere and leads a vicious campaign to defeat western patriarchal capitalism once and for all.

This kind of narrative doesn't work on video games because games are an active medium.

Movies and books are passive, there's nothing that we can do to change things, but a video game? That's easy. If you play as the psycho tranny, you need to do just one simple thing to make him (or her?) lose: stop playing the game. That's it, the heroes now have won.

Thanks, Anita Sarkeesian!

So what if you didn’t shoot the doctor and instead knocked him out?
I guess he just died from the fall then, huh?
You can't knock him out. You either stab him with the scalpel he's threatening you with, or you shoot him.
Fun fact: If you approach the surgeon holding the scalpel without preemptively attacking, he'll stab Joel in the throat.

You can leave the other two doctors alive though. They just cower down and call you a monster.

Had a scroll through & couldn't see this posted. It's really just confirming what had already been speculated but is interesting nonetheless.

“Many people would agree with me that this has been one of the worst projects they’ve ever had to work on, and that’s not just because some people disagree with the plot. Even though some of the team members are Christians and don’t necessarily agree with the game’s ‘message’, they are also professionals and can put their personal politics aside to get the job done. What really sucks about all of this is the working environment.”

Hey Mafia 3 did it

Hey remember Mafia 3?

At least Mafia 3 killing off the previous game's main protagonist was based on player decisions.

Oddly enough, the ending where Vito lives and is given control of New Bordeaux while Lincoln Clay goes on the road into hiding is the best in the game, both in how it's written and how it plays out for the setting.

Ironically, giving the city over to the woman of color is also the absolute worst ending in the game, with the city falling into ruin and the National Guard being called in to restore order

Oh right, they make you do the scalpel stab.

Never played the first one, and I never will now.

One thing, though. What if Ellie isn't dead and this is an attempt to set up a revenge plot in a third game where you play as Ellie? Because everyone is assuming she's dead.

I mean, that wouldn't be much better, but if that's the case, at least you could sort of see what they were going for when they failed. Otherwise, if Ellie is dead and this troon is the new protagonist, I don't even understand what they were trying to accomplish.

That's what me and my buddies were theorizing. She literally looks like someone slapped a woman's face onto an aggressively masculine body and called it a day. Everything about her body screams "man"- even her boobs look more like a man's pectorals than actual boobs.

You have to remember SJWs literally believe gender-swapping a male character to female without otherwise altering the script is some sort of powerful, woke statement. Instead of what it actually is: terrible writing.

Whoa there, let's not say something wrong in this thread.

What, in a thread where everyone is hallucinating MGS2 was clearly a work of genius and that Raiden is actually a cool/likable character? :story:

This is the "the prequels were actually pretty good" bullshit all over again.

This is pretty rich coming from a guy whose career is people coming to him bitching about working conditions and drama. I guess he'd rather be controlled opposition instead of create real change.

When you stand for the working man by making him remain a cog in the corporate machine. :story:
