It really is a lot worse when it's clearer like this. Not only do both of Ellie's arms get broken in short order, her left eye is swollen shut, she's bleeding from the right eye, too. That's some serious cranial damage. I wouldn't be surprised if she wears an eyepatch next game and it's some gimmick we have to deal with. I understand that TLoU tries (and fails) at being grounded and gritty, but this is just beyond extreme. Nothing Joel did in the first game was remotely this violent.

I've seen other leaks saying that she isn't dead and that it ends with her abandoning a pregnant Dina to track down Abbey for revenge. So maybe she isn't dead and they're setting up a third game where Ellie's the villain the whole way through. Still a dumb decision no matter how you slice it.

That ending was actually part of the leaks. One of the posts earlier in the thread showed that very cutscene where Ellie walks out on Dina to go after Abbey for revenge. It was in one of the massive video dumps. Maybe someone could go back through the thread and look for it.

At least Mafia 3 killing off the previous game's main protagonist was based on player decisions.

Mafia 2 also does it with Vito and Joe getting hired to whack the protagonist from the first game but its not a twist or really done for shock value since its a recreation of the epilogue from the first game where Tommy gets killed a couple decades after ratting out his boss as a sort of karmic death.

You know if they wanted to do this right and have you play as the old protagonist's killer they should have had you play Abbey from the start. You play as her having to cope with her father's death and discover who killed him and why. If they want a big reveal and some shock value they don't reveal who the girl's father is or at least how the player would know them or who the killer is until the confrontation. You could have red herrings and false leads to obscure the truth. When the time comes and you meet Joel you actually have a real fight with him. He doesn't give a shit who you are and will gladly beat you to death if you are a threat to him and Abbey wants some understanding why he killed her dad or an apology or something and Joel has none to give so she kills him after a prolonged struggle. Then you have Ellie show up and try to attack Abbey in grief but gets overpowered and spared since Abbey has no beef with her and empathizes with Ellie's situation considering her own.

At least this way we get to learn about and maybe like our new protagonist before she kills our old likable hero. And there is a real fight as the climax and not a huge ma'am beating two much smaller woman almost to death.

If you still need Ellie sequences in the game have both stories happening at the same time. You also give Ellie and Joel a target they are after, some bandit lord or something, and you make it seem like the person that killed Abbey's father is this bandit lord. Make it appear that when the stories converge it will become a team up affair before the ultimate reveal that Abbey is actually after Joel.

This is the reason why I rarely buy western games. I want to, but they've been pulling shit like this since forever and i think this is the hiroshima of this ideological bullshit. Last new western game I bought was DOS2 and before that it was God of War and before that it was Horizon Zero Dawn and Witcher 3. Mind you I have a shitload of old PC games like Heroes 3 but once you get pas the PS2 era and consoles and PCs started getting similar releases it really started to cause decay.

Meanwhile I just got persona 5 Royal, Final Fantasy 7 Remake, Trials of Mana, and have Ys Memories of Celceta coming.

It's entirely possible the delay was planned to be longer, but when the leak happened and any chance of grabbing decent week 1 sales before bad word of mouth spread went with it, they swapped to rushing to go gold, release, and stop throwing good money after bad with this turd.

They're not standing up for the game, it looks like they're just going to release it in whatever state it's in and cover it up with talking about Horizon Zero Dawn and Playstation 5.

If they were going to astroturf they would have done so already, but they refunded the pre-orders because the game wasn't in a good state and now due to the leaks they're going to have to release it in whatever state it's in or everyone will just get the pirated copy.
