Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

While looking up other stories about Oklahoma in the national news (they're hoping we all die of the coof since we start reopening tomorrow), I ran across this. A Tulsa woman who's lived in Brooklyn for years said fuck this, packed all her shit up, and drove straight through to Oklahoma. She already had a job lined up before moving so it's a no brainer. I'm sure there are many others like her.

What’s up with the weird comparison to number of deaths in the Vietnam War too? That one‘s been making the NPC rounds and it makes zero sense to me,

It’s a technique from propaganda methods. If you want to create a negative association Of something with something (anything) you can do it by simply using the words near each other in a piece. So here the Vietnam war is a totally unrelated concept but to Americans, Vietnam stirs up a bunch of negative feelings - futility, anger, pointless loss of life . So you link corona to Vietnam, and then corona triggers all those feelings too.
The association remains in the brain on an emotional level even when the point of the article was forgotten in minutes.
You see it a lot - remember they were talking about the draft when Iran was being stupid earlier in the year? Here’s an article:

ttps://www.nytimes.com/2020/01/10/us/military-enlistment.html (http://archive.vn/Zhxyg)

The article itself is bullshit but the absorbable linked phrasing is Iran-alarm-fear-draft-trump

next time you read a left wing article about someone who is being smeared, see if there’s wording in it that links them with bad stuff. ‘Bob Smith, pastor and kitten rescuer, lives in Smithville, a known haunt of alt right groups, where last year five blameless (insert minority) were killed while...’ blah blah. Bob has no link to these people or groups other than living in the same postcode, and he’s a model citizen, but the reader will remember bob as being a nazi.

Russian PM Mikhail Mishustin got infected.
Also they have confirmed 7,099 new coronavirus infections today, "bringing the country’s official number of cases to 106,498 and marking a new one-day record increase. Russia is now the eighth most-affected country in terms of infections, having surpassed China and Iran this week."

Folks, seriously, the ChiCom Flu is very likely to run wild in Russian cities.

If interested, check out some Russian crash videos. New ones every day. Many of them come from major cities, also some in Ukraine/Belarus, now and them videos from other places. If you can't read Cyrillic, some I have seen are Moscow, Kiev, St.Petersburg, Izevsk, Volgograd, Vladivostok, Sochi, Chelyabinsk, Archangel(sk), Irkutsk, Ufa, Tyumen, and Ivanovo. These cities are spread around the country. Vladivostok is main Russian Pacific port. Sochi is in the south. Archangelsk is way up north near the Barents Sea, and the others are spread around. Also some crashes from small towns, villages, and highways outside of towns.

In every Russian/Ukrainian/Belarusian city I see, there are shitloads of apartment blocks. Some are only two to four stories tall, but many easily exceed fifteen stories. Lots of people living in them. So there are God knows how many people living in close quarters.

From what I have seen most Russian cities are centrally heated by steam plants. You'll see these steam pipes going above the roadway, in a flat arch. Could be conducive to virus spread. Keep in mind that even though we are almost to May, some areas still require heating. Cities turn heat on on a certain date, off on a certain date. Other contributing factors are the poor state overall of the Russian health system and the overall state of people's health. Many Russians smoke heavily, drink even more, and diets aren't always the healthiest.

Don't be surprised by anything you hear/see coming out of Russia. Maybe shocked, but not surprised.

A very interesting article re Putin's response, or lack of it, to the ChiCom Flu hitting Russia.

Believe you are going to see a lot of people fleeing NYC and CA when this thing is over. This will be their last straw. Praying my numbers come up so I can beat feet, otherwise stuck here.

Hmmm...looks like Amazon's going CCP on us, or at least on their employees.

See, this is why I hate the TV news as well, and why it's called "programming." I'm tired of adjectives and exclamatory statements that are simply opinions permeating and eclipsing any actual information. Give me a monotonous, well-dressed, to-the-point newscaster who tells me the who, what where, when and possibly why, if concretely known. After all the news lately about the virus and how it affects blacks the most (and a new ordinance just passed to make all considered legislation to be viewed through a "racial" (but not racist lol) lens in our county-yay, watch crime skyrocket and the gibs a-flowin'), I switched to the local cable company's 24-hour station and the aforementioned nondescript 'caster *gasp* RELATING THE NEWS. No folsky shit, no feel-good stories, no anchors competing to look good (female anchors bug the shit out of me with their practically-clubwear on-air) - just the damn news. Made a huge difference in my anxiety and anger levels, like night and day.

Is it reasonable to assume that most countries have gone through peak wuflu already?

I had the opportunity of leaving the house for a quick errand and decided to gauge the mood of the people here. Had a chat with an Uber driver that was resolute on the idea that wuflu is a nothingburger being exploited for political gain.

The guy wasn't hypocritical —he didn't bother wearing masks and was working since the start of the pandemic. He guessed that most people had the coof but were asymptomatic.

I can't say that I disagree tbh given the demographics of wuflu fatalities. Still, I may not be of the risk group but my immunity is an incognita —I once nearly died from chickenpox.

So I'll probably keep wearing my masks and packing my alcohol.
lol wuflu leads to the funniest chats —the coof is either a nothingburger, literal doom or a bioweapon created to disturb global economy and curb undesirable demographics :story:

I'll look into that although Tulsa is too much of a city for me. Lawton OK is where I'd prefer to live.

I saw this op-ed, have only skimmed yet but it needed to be archived.

Lawton is a shithole, avoid living there at all costs.

Reminds me of these headlines from the past day or two...notice how they don’t mention that the death rate is far under the doomsday predictions they pushed? 🤔 What’s up with the weird comparison to number of deaths in the Vietnam War too? That one‘s been making the NPC rounds and it makes zero sense to me, which is probably why they’re using it. Nonsensical is the name of their game.

Good to hear. These events have made me glad I work for one of the rare software companies that wasn’t trying to enter the Chinese market, other than when our customers use the product for their Chinese offices, but we have zero physical presence there.

By establishing a connection between the coronavirus and Vietnam where there is none, they hope people will get as angry with Trump as people were with the presidents pointlessly continuing the Vietnam war, even though the scandal and loss of lives in Vietnam were the fault of choices made disregarding loss of life, while all of the choices Trump has made have been to prevent the loss of life.

I think the governor of NJ said more people died from China virus than all the states residents did in all the wars they fought in the last 100 years. I was like wtf how many people have died from the flu in NJ in just the past 20 years? Do they think it makes it sound scarier or what?
Claremore is kind of a cute town. Lake Oolagah is right there too. And you can get to Tulsa and the Cherokee Casino in minutes :)
I spent a lot of time in and around Fort Sill, not so much around Lawton, I visited a lot of nice out of the way places in OK. I'll look into Claremore.

Heyo my fellow autists! Spain news time!

Hospital's fucking fine. I'll link stats here, sumary, Houston, there are no problems.

So let's get to politics. Why god why. So. Some municipios open free as they see. Others open for excercize with limits. Limits set by age (adults from X to Y, eldery from Y to Z, kids from whatever to whichever. I didn't pay enough attention to see the hours. Overall morale is high af. Honestly. I keep saying it. If the politicians outside had been keeping their word, talking clear, and establishing clearcut dates they would not have nearly as many issues. I mean jesus christ this has been a mess of changes and improvisation. But people don't give a shit, because people know how it's going and that our idiots in charge are as unhappy about the lockdown as we are. It's a fucking wonder how much we can do when we're not busy fighting each other.

Biggest political news however is the complete and utter fucking downward spiral the spanish right has entered. They have effectively imploded to a simply inescapable degree. I am in contact with a group that up to a few days ago were staunch VOX supporters and at this point not only are they saying they have no clue if they'll even vote but I swear you'd have to see the fucking atmosphere. The right has no morale left. Their leaders have managed to destroy every last bit of lenience they had. Honestly, I hope we see some new party rise out of this, with no ex-PP baggage and without the crazyness. Maybe, just maybe, they can do it. Podemos did it for the left. Fingers crossed.

The group is not the only reason I have to think this. Here in spain there are routine census of who would win if the vote was made at a point. Of course these aren't actually that accurate. Partially due to the electoral fraud with the by mail bullshit. Partially due to the normal issues. Also in a big part because of how points are counted. Because it isn't 1 vote=1 point. It is some weird equation that amongat other things favor independist movements by giving points by autonomy, and also heavily favors the first and second party, in that order. But, that said. I took part on one today. And participants can see the result. Only partially because we only see the result of our group, but the groups are massive (only reason they are by group is due to census taking multiple days), and the result is that PSOE would get almost 50% and podemos over 29%, meaning a coalition of those 2 parties would effectively have absolute majority (>70%), which means they'd be able to rule alone even on constitutional matters. For all intent and purposes with only very minor exceptions they would be dictators for 4 years so long as they don't fight. More to the matter Vox got 11%, PP under 4%, and Ciudadanos 1%. I told you PP was plummeting. But even for Vox this is horrid. Ciudadanos is no surprise. They were a literal gay op to attempt to drain leftie vote for right wing politics. Only surprise is there's anyone still willing to vote for them.

Thing is... How could this NOT be the result? Today the right wing has been on TV for 2 reasons. First of, Diaz Ayuso (PP, chief of Junta de Andalucia. Basically Cuomo but spanish and with boobs.) Has been getting memed to hell and back over the last month due to the schoolmeals. I did not catch wind of this glorious shitfest till now and I am so sorry I did not learn about it before because it is hilarious.

You see. Public schools have meals for the kids. At least if they pay for them or have "becas comedor" saying they are poor enough to qualify for free food. You can imagine however that school being closed might put a fairly bit issue there. Thankfully spanish public schools do have protocols to send food home if there's issues. Like the kid getting sick for long periods of time, or natural disasters. That being said typically the food is still done in the school kitchens. But those are closed too. So, every autonomy has had to do their thing to fix it. Most autonomies have done relatively OK, either hiring someone competent or using public kitchens. Not madrid. Madrid has just hired the cheapest fucking option they could with no respect for quality. As you might imagine, that means the kids have been a whole month now eating nothing but fast food with coke! Yeah with coke, which at this point is a fucking meme in itself. Literally nothing but pizza and hamburger. And I mean... at least they like it I guess. But come on dude you can't feed the kids nothing but trash for months and expect not to have a massive spike in child obesity. Specially when it's the month they've spent quarantined home.

So anyway, ayuso has gotten a lot of shit over it. And has gotten offended by it, going on a demented rant about the mediterranean diet being communist propaganda (FUCKING SOMEHOW) and ending with "the kids like pizza. Not like the meals from Podemos, which are the same as in Venezuela, which is to say NOTHING!" Btw Cadiz is from podemos and I can assure you the kids from the province have been fed up to standards of mediterranean diet over here, as always, despite being one of the most impoverished provinces. Meanwhile madrid is one of the richest, so go fucking figure. But that aside, point is. How do you think the right wing has responded to this? Well poorly that's how. From adopting the typical "blame everything on Pablo Iglesias and treat him like he's the antichrist" shit that is the reason he got to prominence to begin with, to how she, as always accepts no responsibility, to so brazengly dismissing scientific data as communism, fucking somehow, again. She's Cuomo alright, and like him, she can't help but get everyone to hate her profoundly. She's had many other stunts throughout this, and they have ALL backfired. And people keep pointing out more and more than the PP and Vox love to use Venezuela as the bogeyman, but sure are happy to have businesses with fucking China, you know, the most authoritarian communist regime of today. Which is becoming a thorn in their side more and more with time.

As for the second point, while Ayuso went on her insane rant, today we also got to see Vox go absolutely buttfuck insane. Yet another of their insane rants claiming anti-corruption measures are "political persecution", trying to link everything to podemos once more despite how bad that makes them look (it's just the spanish version of Trump Derangement Syndrome really), and just endlessly rambling about 3 dozen topics at the same time like that somehow makes a point. Thing is, even when they do give a good point, they just immediately shank themselves. Here's the examples of today: they rambled about the fact spanish police spies on social media. Now, I'm the first one that really doesn't like that. You see, basically, spanish cops fight cybercrime such as telematic frauds and hackers and shit like that as much as all other cops. But they also for some fucking reason take the time to note emergent narratives such as conspiracy theories and warn of their basis and development to certain institutes so they can counter the narrative. I for one find this to be an abhorrent waste of time and money and absolutely insane level of lack of privacy. I mean for all intents and purposes they're just doing the same thing as kiwifarms except they get paid to do it. But there's a difference between anonymous autists doing it and the fucking CYBERPOLICE monitoring this shit.

Point is. Vox added criticism of this to their rambles. And I for one agree. Except they then claimed this was Podemos' doing, claimed they were censoring things, and claimed it was communist propaganda. Because what isn't communist propaganda nowadays. Now let's actually focus on the truth. First of, they don't censor anything, they only look, they don't pozload my negholep. (As I said. They literally get paid to be the farms. Lucky bastards.) This has nothing to do with comunism. (Did I even need to mention that?) And this was implemented by Aznar during his last term. Almost 2 decades ago. Aznar was from the PP, Podemos not only wasn't in the government at the time, IT DIDN'T EXIST, and Pablo Iglesias was a fucking teacher no one knew about back then. Thing is. Cops are one of the big voting blocks of the right. And they know this shit. Which is why as I said on the begining of this message, the right wing morale is basically non existent at this point. The voters are in the cycles of fucking grief by now. It's actually kind of sad. Quite simply, more and more every day they find themselves having to correct the politicians, and they're just done with it. Honestly today the group wasn't even irate or joking about it anymore, they were just straight up depressed. I am not part of the group I just get screencaps and snippets from one of the members who is a friend of mine, and fuck me, today they actually made me feel bad for the righties. I am glad they finally noticed the poiticians are fucking deranged. But they just looked defeated.

Delingpole interviewed a guy called Carbon Mike. Very interesting discussion about the problems of the US left, who both Delingpole and Mike despise and the US right who they think are not making an alternative case effectively and, more problematically are pushing the same sort of crony capitalist regulation which benefits incumbents at the cost of people trying to enter the market. Also of the bogosity of Neil Ferguson not releasing the source code to his model.

MedCram video on two Remdesivir trials. There's one in China that found no effect and one in the US that did find an effect but it looks like it's rather small. 8% mortality for the treated group vs 11% for the placebo group - you'd need to treat 28 people to save one life.

That's because a lot of the criticism against the protesters totally misrepresents their argument. They assume people who want things opened up or feel like their constitutional rights are being violated must be in denial that the virus exists at all, therefore it's poetic justice that they catch it.

With some of these people, any failure to have the same level of fear about it as them sets them off. Even pro-lockdown people who say things like "well, I'm not so much worried for myself, but I'm worried about my elderly loved ones" will have people jump down their throats because "IT KILLS EVERYONE, EVEN YOUNG PEOPLE CAN DIE!"

If you're not panicked in your bunker than you must not believe it even exists.
It's the same strawman with climate change "deniers", where supposedly everyone who isn't ready to canonize Greta Thunberg must think that global warming is a complete hoax. Of course said Thunberg cultists know the parallel all too well, thinking the only reason we don't respond as extremely to the "climate crisis" as to the Wu Flu is because boomers are affected by the latter. We all know the reason is to temporarily crash the economy to make Trump lose, but the thing about far-lefties is that they still think they're the underdogs.

I feel your argument about it being a bit of a strawman similar to the climate change deniers but the difference is the climate change deniers are not actively creating more CO2 in the atmosphere to further prove their point that climate change is a myth, unlike the protesters who are actively engaging in an activity to promote further outbreaks. People are criticizing them because the concept of protesting a virus during a pandemic is a ludicrous proposition especially to regular folk who may not be as informed about the entire scenario.

I skipped reading this thread for the last few days. It is the first time in longer than I can remember that I did not have this thread as part of my day.

Fuck me I feel a lot better. I think skipping this thread may cure China Virus. Someone tell President Trump!

Also China seems pretty quiet. They are probably letting us fuck ourselves over via the media. That virus thing they released is so last month anyway.
