As someone pointed out, either Tim Pool, Sargon, Styx... one of them pointed out that there's a lot of people out there that desperately want this lockdown to continue on forever because they're getting unemployment and HATE their jobs. This is beyond the starbux marxists who think if they crash the US economy hard enough we HAVE to give them their cultural revolution.
I have to admit feeling the same way at times -- wishing I could just not work and have the coof excuse, that is; it should be legal to hunt Marxists for sport as a form of self defense -- even though I'm not receiving UI, thanks to being able to telecommute.
The push from this shouldn't be for UBI or unemployment. The real push should be about telecommuting. Tons of jobs, especially in the cities, can be done telecommuting. There's no reason wagies should be wasting 2 hours commuting to an arbitrary building in a downtown area when their job can likely be done online.
Yes, this. I worry that after this, we're going to see a lot of middle managers desperately demanding people come into the office and waste time just so they can justify their own jobs.
At the same time, I certainly hope we see a bunch of companies realize they don't NEED that stupidly expensive NYC office space and can just have a small office somewhere else.
One of my clients is simply setting up empty desks with monitors, Keybaords and Mice.... and a docking station. Everyone can just work at home and if they want to come into the office for a meeting or if their internet cuts out or something similar, they can. Just come in and pick a random desk -- there's some debate on if it'll be "your desk" or if it's going to be something similar to an open floor plan -- and work. Or work from home.
I honestly feel that this might be the death knell for some of the urban bugman hives. If you can telecommute from say, Tennessee or Ohio and buy a house for $100k that would cost you $3000k in New York, all while having no commute vs wasting hours each day... while also being able to switch jobs without having to uproot your family, while also being able to see your family all day...
That's not a tough sell.
But it'll screw over worthless middle managers, the property owners, and the banks, so, we'll see how it goes.
Similar thing with public school, I feel. Don't remember if it was Styx or someone in here that was talking about it, but you're seeing a LOT of parents realizing that the telecommuting classes for public schools are... kinda fucking worthless. And some of them are realizing that it's the classes themselves, not the telecommuting part, that's the problem.
Of course, if the Cultural Marxists in our society lose the indoctrination centers that is public education, well... They aren't going to take that lying down. Hence why you have the very important people(tm), the alpha marxist types at Harvard and Yale and the like, already raising the red flag to try and get the ADL and SPLC involved, to try and condition parents away from the idea. Public school is daycare, but it's poisoned daycare that teaches kids leftist values. It was NEVER meant to do so.
It really feels like the next few years are going to be huge paradigm shifts in our culture... but I'm trying not to get my hopes up. Too many people's power, wealth, and influence are dependent on things NOT changing.
